I believe I'm correct with the list above. Which team did NOT have a good to great defense on that list?
The 2002 Pats' defense was not that good but they got it done in the playoffs and that's when it matters most.
The 2010 Saints was also not that great, but they brought the house on certain plays and definitely caused some turnovers in the playoffs. Again, that's when it matters most.
The Ravens and Bucs defense. One of the best defenses I ever seen. Along with both the 2006 & 2008 Steelers.
Colts defense was 3rd in the league when they won. -

2005 Ben Roethlisberger and 2001 Tom Brady were two quarterbacks where were not very good.
I would also add Eli manning to that list. -
I would say that 02,04,and 05 Pats defense was good but definitely not elite. The 2010 Saints defense was an average group and the 07 Colts were average. Thats half of the winners.
Now QBs... the 00 Ravens and the 03 Bucs are the only two teams that don't have a top tier QB. The only other guy that in my oppinion is above average is Eli.
The NFL has shifted in the fact that defense is not AS important as it once was and QB has definitely become a huge premium with the new passing rules. But it is simple you need to really excel on one side of the ball and the other side better carry it's weight.(unless you play the 2000 Giants haha)
With all that being said, Miami right now this season... Peyton Manning. Although I would LOVE me some Haloti Ngata(spelling?). Guy is nasty and would make our run D unbearable to other teams. -
the game plan for the 2005 Steelers was to run the ball and to limit the throws of Big Ben. He was not exactly an elite quarterback at that time. In fact Brad Johnson was a better quarterback when he won the superbowl.
The 2008 Steelers is a much different story. -

Ben while not exactly a top notch QB at that time, has become one. So the tools and ability were still there at that time. A young QB on the way to becoming very good is much different than an older QB who was on his way down from mediocrity. Ben also had a 98+ QB rating for the year which is very very good.
