I would say he's worth keeping around as a developmental prospect, but last year was the final straw. He had that benefit last year and lost every bit of hope there was to be had that he could be a formidable player.
Billy Turner and Jamil Douglas should be this team's top two backups heading into the season. Turner should be the swing tackle and backup left guard with Douglas backing up Pounce and whoever the new RG is.
The OL situation really isn't as bad as we think. I actually like both of those guys in a 6th and 7th man role. Albert is a quality starter with only injury concerns as his red flag and I think Billy Turner would play much better at LT than he would anywhere else. We all know what Pouncey is at center. James is, at worst, a GOOD starting right tackle. So we need to find a starter at both guards and find our 8th lineman.
That's not THAT tall of a task and a formidable front office could hammer out those issues in one off-season.
Another reason I'm against taking an offensive tackle in round one is that I still believe Billy Turner is this team's left tackle of the future after Albert goes out.
I hope Adam Gase is much smarter than Joe Philbin in regards to making players change positions all the damn time. It was almost like he shuffled a deck of cards and put guys out there. How about playing the guys in the same positions where they had success in college?
