It is an issue..the man cannot pick up a stunting defender if it isn't his first responsibility, it really seems he has very poor peripheral vision, I remember watching him in college and writing, he's got good movement but it seems he doesn't pick up other defenders on their way to the QB..I think that has shown itself at this level..to me that means he'll always be a liabity..you just have to be able to have your head on a swivel if your going to be an nfl lineman...man has no swivel.

 

As the 2014 season ended, fans were dead set on the O-line being the top priority with it being almost mandatory that several players get replaced. As the off-season wore on, that sentiment mellowed out to the point that people were more and more accepting of guys who weren't that good. Eventually "I hate X, he's got to go" became "we ought to think about replacing X" which became "at worst X will be a last resort."

We saw how that ended. So, while I understand your logic, I wonder if the biggest battle will be the inevitable mellowing-out that comes with not seeing guys failing right in front of you week after week. Hope is a powerful and highly delusional force! It's true that the O-line really is in bad shape. Albert an aging veteran who we know is an injury risk. James missed the majority of the season in only his 2nd year which is a bad sign. At best he's an average tackle anyhow. Miami doesn't have a single Guard they can count on unless someone does something unexpected. Then you have the Center who IMO is getting paid too much and who has battled injury himself.

I think the best thing Tannenbaum could've done mid-season would have been to give himself a tattoo that read "fix the O-line first and don't forget to fix the O-line." ;)

 

Its a fair question, since they could clear an easy 1.5 mil of cap room by moving on. I assume that they will when they need it to sign someone else. With less than 10% of his cap number as a dead money hit, he's actually one of the least painful players to move on from on the roster.

I agree, he has to be cut. He's not even a backup quality player, he's a clear liability when he's on the field. He isn't worthy of wearing a Dolphin uniform. If he's in the starting lineup the season is over, plain and simple.

 

Falco, you make a really good point. I just looked at his cap number and it is pretty high. We could clear $1.6 mil by cutting him. I could understand if he was making next to nothing, and we could hold onto him until his replacement is found.

 

Philbin constantly quelling concerns over the O-line was infuriating. As soon as someone went down, he showed no confidence in his backups.

Gase has a chance at least to mitigate some of those issues with scheme.
