The addition of coach Joe Philbin & his staff.
I believe Coach Philbin knows how to develop talent, has creative ideas, knows how to install a system & utilize players to their max potential.
If we can develop talent that means :
~we can get many of our players through the draft so we will have them at a cheap price when they are in their prime.
~we can be consistently competitive.
~we can have teams giving us draft picks for our old players instead of overpaying for big name, overpriced, past their prime FA's from other teams.
IMO the big picture looks promising. I think we will be creating stars instead of chasing them.

Great post.
Everyone in here is about to come tell you how horrible Ireland is and that we have no reason to hope for anything as long as he is the GM though. Don't let them phase you, they are trying to take out the frustrations of twelve to forty years on a man who has had full control over his actions for one season. -
i don't think people are so negative its people are justifiably up set you dont have to be negativebut its ok to be pissed. i want to have a positive outlook but we arenot making any moves that indicates we will havea winning season. I'm sorry but I just dont see us moving foreward. Now if get a couple of stud playerson offense then i will be more positive. both of you have good post.

Meh, it's mostly media driven nowadays...Face it, football has become man's soap opera more and more.

I can't believe Sparano finally ends up with his perfect Wildcat QB in Tebow. Man, I don't think I can handle that much spontaneous paizano dancing celebrations...

I get the feeling he thinks exactly what you're saying, they key to great football is draft, draft, draft. I sincerely hope Ireland finds what Coach is looking for in the draft. -

Aqua, I'm not "busting" on you, but it's this mindset that drives me absolutely INSANE about fans in football anymore. You are not the only one who shares the "player pursuit" mindset, the notion that the individual player is more important than the coaching staff.
"...we are not making any moves that indicates we will havea winning season."
Why? Because we don't have an Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady, Peyton Manning or Drew Brees as our quarterback? Because we don't have three Jerry Rices lined up at wide receiver? Because we don't have an Emmitt Smith at running back? Is THIS what you're meaning Aqua?
I'm sincere when I tell you his Aqua, but we've made the BEST move in the off season to secure winning seasons. I'm confident and actually excited about our new coaching staff and although some of you are calling for Jeff Ireland to be crucified upside down like the Apostle Paul, I can almost assure you with 100% certainty Jpoe Philbin is getting everything he wants...he's NOT being denied any players he wants. I've already elaborated this point in another thread, so I won't go into it again.
Secondly, for those who feel players are more important than coaches...
Jim Harbaugh
Tom Coughlin
Bill Cowher
Marty Schottenheimer!!
Just a few head coaches who made all the difference...coaches that made their teams winners and not the players themselves.
I'm giving Philbin and Sherman at least 3 years. Their demonstrated record shows they are able to develop players into winners. In three years we'll either be Super Bowl contenders or Joe Philbin will show he's the offensive version of Buddy Ryan...great coordinator, sh1tty head coach, but we won't know the answer to that until the season begins.
To say we've made no moves to indicate a winning season...completely belittles the importance of the coaching staff. -

Philbin turning out to be a great coach would be a win for this offseason no matter what else we do or don't do.
I'm just not sure how potentially having a great coach can viewed by so many fans as virtually insignificant to the extent that fans are calling the offseason a bust when the draft hasn't even arrived. It's like people are prioritizing a few positions on the field more than the head coach running the show. I'd think Miami fans would wiser considering all the coaching failures we've had since Shula.
Our number one concern should't be how our QB turns out; it should be how our HC turns out.
Edit: Sorry for the double post as I'm basically restating what The Dark Knight said. -
Tannehill would definitely be out of the question with Parcells b/c he doesn't fit his starting duration requirement. -
My biggest fear is if everyone is right and Ireland blows and gets fired this year sometime....I just hope the new GM keeps Philbin long enough to see what we got.ToddsPhins likes this. -

So right now, from last season we are down our #1 WR, a RG, a SS and rotational DL/OLB. We still are not sure about the QB situation as Moore played well for us, but he really didn't distinguish himself as the guy that can lead this team. Garrard has been out of football for a year and wasn't playing that well then so what we get with him is in question. We don't know the exact scheme we'll play on D, so guys like Misi, Merling, Burnett...where do they fit, who is our SS and FS, neither played that well last season. We've seen all the candidates play and none distinguished themselves. Who is our LDE....
On O, who is our RG and RT (both lost, thankfully)... Even if you pencil in Hicks at RT who is the RG ? Maybe Murtha but if you do that, who is your swing tackle, someone we needed last year ? Is Jerry someone who is going to blossom this season ? Who is our #1 WR now, Hartline ?? Bess ?? Hardly. Where are these stars in creation ? They aren't here yet. I don't see much reason for optimism right now. Perhaps after FA is finished or the draft is over, but now....hmmm. Not impressive..
EDIT: In case you hadn't noticed, I'm one of the negative guys... -
Naw... couldn't tell that at all. I would rather state what you wrote as concerned - as opposed to some of the posts which have been borderline rabid.
Those concerns you write of are genuine. Sometime between here and the start of camp, we need to designate who is going to play RT and RG. I am almost positive that the loss of Columbo and Carey (at this stage in his career) are not really negatives since their play was not up to the standards they both set earlier in their careers. That is my biggest worry. With the O line we had last year, St. Daniel in his prime could not have thrived. Survived... possibly? Thrived.. nope!
At QB - I still hope they draft one of the young'uns left after Luck/RGIII are gone, but Moore has shown more moxie and willingness to get after it than anyone we have had in a long time. I would be all right with riding him another year if Garrard hasn't got his stuff back yet.
But, the big point is that we are less than a week into FA, and the team is just beginning to build into next season. The 'lack of splash' does not faze me one bit, because a number of teams have tried to buy a Super Bowl team and failed - including the 'Phins. I'd rather see the slow conscientious effort to put the right people in the right place rather than grab a much ballyhoo'd name just to fulfill fan fantasy. As someone has pointed out, this is not fantasy football nor Madden.

I agree100%. I think Philbin is the coach we've been longing for in Miami. -

Very optimistic about Philbin/Sherman/Coyle, et al. But then again I was similarly excited about Cam Cameron and retaining our DC, then we drafted a family.
Think I will wait to anoint Philbin until AFTER the season.shula_guy likes this. -
My only issue with Philbin is that he may never get a fair shake. Considering the uproar over Ireland, if this season doesn't go well he may be removed and what new GM doesn't want to hire his own coach. Restated, what GM worth his salt wouldn't demand it...

i see your point and if Philbin does well then i will breath easy but in oder for him to succeed he really needs to get some one that is a real threat at wr . I am at the point where i just want to wait now .
