Leonard Hankerson really did well. helped himself for sure. Greg Little Probably didn't help himself which I hope moves his stock down and allows us to get him.

 

Little was expected to run in that range. Hes never been fast, he's just been a brutal possession YAC WR.

This ^^^. If he can learn to run routes and diagnose coverages well, he's going to be a serious problem. I'm talking Anquan Boldin, but a step faster.

 

He's got a decent noodle (the one upstairs) so I'm not really worried about the learning/diagnosing part.

 

Personally, I don't see how one can be less worried about Greg Little's ability to process than Cameron Newton's. I'm not taking sides here because I'm not thrilled about either prospect but questioning Newton and not being worried about Little's mental state is a bit biased opinion IMO.

So does that mean if you like one prospects fluidity over another's that you, yourself, are biased? Does that mean that none of us can like one aspect of a player's game over another's w/o being biased? When did assessing intelligence become taboo or discriminatory? lol.

I've listened to Cam talk many times, and I've listened to Little. Some of the bumbling things that come out of Cam's mouth sound like stuff ex VP Dan Quayle would say. Little speaks with more intelligence. Cam was busted for cheating 3 times; Little wasn't, and UNC is a tougher school than anywhere Cam attended. Cam had some fun with a lap top and tons of tickets. Little didnt.

So yes, I question Cam's mental make up, where as I haven't seen anything from Little to question his. Rather, he seems like an intelligent guy IMO, and the fact that he impacted at the WR position during his 1st season playing it tells me that there's some football intelligence there.

 

Jon Baldwin running a better than expected 4.45 with a 42" vertical at 6'4, 228 throws him back on my draft board now that he's shown he has enough speed to get downfield. He's worth a look in the late first if we trade back IMO.

That's not the same thing. And IMO people should question Little's intelligence because of the dumbass move he made by getting himself suspended for the year.

The biggest difference is Little paid for his actions. It cost him a season of football and a LOT of money. The kid's got a chip on his shoulder now which is why he busted his arse in the offseason. What did Cam lose? Nothing. No suspensions. No jail. No Heisman taken away. He's given a huge endorsement deal before he's even signed. It's a potential recipe for disaster in my book.

I think Newton had a little more impact than Little in the first year he got to play...

But I think it's fair to be more concerned about a QB's intelligence than really any other position I mean we've all heard Emmitt Smith talk.

 

Intelligence and maturity are 2 different things. Little might have showed a lack of maturing and responsibility, but I've seen nothing that shows he lacks intelligence. On the other hand, Cam has shown that it's "possible" that he could be lacking in both departments.

Baldwin is a WR who had a question mark about his long speed at the next level. We don't need any more possession WRs, so if he ran a slow 40, then it means he might not meet the bill for the vertical threat that we need. Baldwin running a 4.45 is much different than Baldwin running a 4.58 b/c a big part of his game is making plays down field.

So what you're saying is the reason Bess isn't a vertical threat is b/c of his forty time?......... or that if Mike Wallace ran a 4.5 he'd still be the same vertical playmaker?

Have you heard of a guy called Dwayne Jarrett?----- Big guy, lots of talent, playmaker in college, vertical threat in college, thought of as a 1st rounder before the combine......... then runs a slow 4.62 forty, and in the NFL he doesn't have the ability to gain separation b/c of his slower long speed, hence none of his college production translated to the NFL level. However, if he ran a 4.45, things might be a different story for him.

These are WRs. Speed matters to a degree if you're supposed to be a vertical threat. We're not talking RBs, Oline, or Dline here.

Are you sure you know who Baldwin is? lol. I think you should double check your sources regarding the bold statement b/c one of his biggest question marks involve his ability to gain separation at the next level, and MANY were skeptical as to whether or not he'd have the same downfield success. When you couple this with "laziness" concerns, then how he runs IS important.

Ahhhh..... right.... b/c every college WR who can get deep will transition to the NFL in the same manner. :lol: Again, Dwayne Jarrett, his 2 All-American honors, 3100 yards, and 41 TDs might have a different opinion on the subject. Do you know who Jarrett is? (and not the guy from Subway).

People like me believe that a player will have a harder time being a vertical threat at 4.58 than he will at 4.45.

By the way, nice try---- I never said "4.5s", but if you'd like to twist stuff to make it fit your argument, then have at it. 4.51 can be entirely different than 4.58; I like how you tried to jumble them together though.

 

I like Jerrel Jernigan of Troy, he is a good WR (kind of a slot receiver) and did a nice job handling Kickoffs and Punts. He looks faster than a 4.51 runner from what I have seen of him. I would take him in Round 3.

Maybe you dont know who Baldwin is. Yes. His ability to gain separation is a question mark, but not deep separation. His route running ability and to get separation short and mid is in question here.

Hilarious. Now I definitely know you havent watched much of Baldwin if you try to compare him and Jarrett. They were two different college players. Jarrett was not even close to the deep threat that Baldwin is. and no not every deep threat in college is going to translate. But I find it funny you have been hammering we dont have a deep threat. their to slow, when Hartline ran a 4.51 at the combine. Yet now you claim Baldwin went from off your board altogether, to on it in the first round because he ran .06 fast then Hartline.

I had him off my board on purpose until he ran his forty. Because of his past issues, I only wanted to make sure he didn't run a slow time (IE: close to or over 4.6). If he did, I would've left him off b/c we don't need another possible possession WR.

Respectfully, maybe you haven't read all my posts b/c I've stated that our deep threat doesn't necessarily need to be fast provided that he can actually make plays downfield. Hartline isn't a playmaker downfield. If Brian had Baldwin's size, talent, and ball skills, then this would make up for his 4.51 speed. I've never said that the only thing that matters as a vertical threat is speed. Braylon Edwards ran a 4.45 at his pro day, which is pretty close to Hartline's 4.49. However, Edwards has the size, physicality, and ball skills to be effective downfield. Hartline doesn't.


I'm sorry, but Jarrett was 1st round talent that dropped off b/c of his unexpectedly slow forty time. Jarrett wasn't close to the deep threat that Baldwin is? We'll just have to agree to disagree and leave it at that. He was one of (if not the) top playmakers in college at the time, and it wasn't from taking 3 yard dump offs and burning them upfield like Percy Harvin. Like Baldwin, Jarrett had question marks entering the draft about his ability to get off the line in the NFL.
