I would not be totally against this, if it brings us Cowher. What are your thoughts Dolfans?

I don't want Cowher; I want Omar Khan. I'd accept Cowher as the coach for a while if he came with Khan.
But IMO, Peterson rumors are just lazy. He knows Ross, he used to be a GM, so he MUST be next in line! Ugh. Peterson is well qualified to lead the GM search and interview process, and to assist that hired GM in the coach search, but he's likely not going to be the GM himself.gafinfan and GARDENHEAD like this. -
I'm just curious if Cowher still has that fire to coach. With Gruden you can see it written all over his face. I have absolutely nothing to base this on, but I feel like Cowher *thinks* he wants to get back into coaching, and would do it for a year and remember "crap, this is a lot of work" and go back into TV.
I'm probably 100% wrong about that, it's just a gut feeling.Starry31, steveincolorado and Uncle Rico like this. -
I'm okay with Cowher as Plan C. I would like for him to build a menacing defense in the short-term.

I would rather not give total control to a head coach...........ANY head coach.

correct me if i am wrong, but unless Kevin Colbert's contract is expiring this year, Cowher can't hire him away as our GM. lateral move right?

Not really a big fan of Peterson to be honest. Cowher is a good coach, he may not want to coach again though who knows. I'd rather see us go with a coach that wants to run a different approach, Cowher is more along the lines of a coach that wants to play old school football, I think those days have passed. I want a coach that is willing to take risks and open the offense up.

Does anyone else think that Cowher would bring the same old conservative philosophy that has been going on with the Dolphins for years?

Personaly, if Miami wants to have a football Czar, then I think Carl Peterson is the ideal candidate. He knows how to turn a franchise around, both on the field and on the business side. Hire him as the the football czar and let him bring in the GM and head coach. Once they are in place, he can let the GM run the football side with the head coach, and he can set up the business and marketing side of the franchise.

I am just throwing this out there for the fun of it..........every one is now saying you cant win in this league unless you are a pass happy offense. I am really not so sure about that. Who gives NE more fits than anyone else.......the Jets. They certainly are NOT pass first. IF you have a dominating Defense, and a VERY GOOD TO GREAT QB, you can beat those teams with a consistent running game. NE- Jets is just an example. We gave NO and Indy a scare and we didnt have the QB to finish it. I am not buying into the pass happy philosophy as a necessity to win it all so even though he isnt my first choice, we could do much worse than Cowher.

Passing too often (over 40 attempts per game post-1978) usually results in a loss. Pass volume is not the way to go. Pass efficiency, measured through yards per attempt, is what matters. When you pass, you need to wring every yard possible out of the attempt. There is a measurable and reliable correlation between passing efficiency/YPA and winning. There is a measureable and reliable correlation between passing volume and losing.
When a talking head says "it's a passing league" and implies that a team needs to pass more to win, you can ignore everything that comes out of his mouth. He has no clue. He probably stays up at night wondering how a team that racks up more total yardage than their opponent but winds up losing can possibly exist.jdang307 and unluckyluciano like this. -

To me, Bill has never been a quarterback centric coach. He's always put more on the defense and running game than he has the quarterback position. -
sigh.
it is the world's longest circle jerk.
Bill Cowher is Wanny and Sparano with a reputation.
He is conservative to a fault. Steeler fans used to rip him for his conservative philosophy constantly.
We need a coach that understands that the passing game and stopping the pass is what wins. Not this ole' "play defense and field position" BS.Puka-head likes this. -

I like both Cowher and Chucky, There both fierce competitors. Each has pro's and cons. What we need is someone who the players will respect and play for a$$es off until they drop and then keep going. Also we need someone who and when we go after in Free Agency, they wont hesitate to sign with us. All those who posted above, CK, KB, S126... I respect your opinion and always read your threads since they are very informative and to the point. Don't you all agree it will be hard to get both sides of a coin in one coach? But I do love when I see Cowher turning red on the sidelines for chewing someone out of Chest bumping his players. Chucky is another coach who is the same. Now who has the coin to flip and who is gonna call it... :knucks:
Hopes Ross grew a Pair and does right by us... -
Bill Parcells led Cowboys were 5th in the league in passing in 2006. It's not about how much you pass, it's how you pass and who you have passing. in 2006, Cowher's last year, steelers were 9th and that's with a Ben Roeth that isn't a prolific passer.
Good defense, good running game, and efficient passing game is still an effective model IMO.
That said, unless he pairs up with a good GM I'm not so sure of Cowher. he's been away quite a while.Aquafin likes this. -
I guess I just don't agree with this idea that Cowher is a conservative coach. They passed the ball well when Roethlisberger was reaching his prime. Prior to that he had guys like Kevin O'Donnell, Mike Tomczak, Kordell Stewart and Tommy Maddox. And one of those years with Maddox, as I recall, they really passed the ball all over the place. They ran the ball a ton in Roethlisberger's rookie year, to where he didn't have to pass much, but notice the 15-1 record that year, and also notice Roethlisberger was just a rookie. Yeah, in that situation, I'd run the ball too.
The offensive coordinators have been Chan Gailey, Ken Whisenhunt and Mike Mularkey. Those guys aren't conservative by nature. Chan Gailey practically runs a college offense, Ken Whisenhunt since he's taken over Arizona has overseen the most use (possibly overuse) of wide receivers per snap of any offense in the league, and Mike Mularkey is the trick-play and weird-formation king. -

We are assuming that Cowher or Chucky wants to come here. I heard what Chucky said on tv about the phins on that Monday night game. But will they really come here. What has to happen for them to come, Sparano needs to go, and so does Ireland. What did Cowher say last year, before he said He wont speak about the coaching spot, when we still had Sparano on board. What did Chucky say. I cant recall, what do you guys remember or think needs to happen or be done...
-
I think our fan base has way too much emphasis on style of offense. It's more about execution of a style of offense. Smash mouth football can still win today IF you have the right personnel. Our team has tried to win without the right guys up front. Sadly, I thought Morano was an o-line guru...LOL!!

There are a lot of potential ties between Cowher, Ross, and Peterson and the position this franchise is in right now. Any idiot can link the three guys together. This isn't a real story, just yet... It will become a story come early January.... It could also be a big, huge, humongous let down for millions of Fins Fans....
