Apple is losing me. About to get an HTC One or GS4.

 

The visual refresh is going to jar some longtime users who buy iOS devices because they're comfortable and familiar with the interface. But the redesign was necessary, IMO. iOS looks much better now, and it looks like they're doing some interesting things with the UX. Still waiting to see some reports of how the beta operates, though.

And OS X Mavericks is a must-get for me. When Apple releases a new Mac Mini, I'll upgrade all at once.

 

Might be a stupid question, but this will all just sync when its released to all iphone 4 and newer and ipad2 and newer devices correct? Like I will just get a apple update in app store to install?

 

Yes, if your iOS device supports iOS 7, you'll get an update notification, just like all other update notifications.

Won't be out for a few months though.

Just looked at the site. Looks clean as hell. Some of his looks more "cartoony" but I will wait to use it personally, to make an opinion on it.

 

I don't think it looks cartoony at all. If anything they're overlapping somewhat with Google's new flat design look.

 

I'm just thrilled my devices made the cut.

 

Yeah my Ipad lost support two years after launch.

 

Was it the first iPad? That was unusual, probably because it had a very small amount of RAM.

 

It was the first Ipad. Launched in November (IIRC) of 2010 and support discontinued in November of 2012.

 

I don't really have a problem with the new iOS. Personally, I don't think it looks great, but its not a big deal. AirDrop seems pretty cool. iOS in the car is pretty cool. But thats about all I can say I'm intrigued by. For a company with as much market cap as Apple, they should be putting out more.

This is because the Retina Display requires additional backlighting, which means it drains the battery quicker. The battery is larger to compensate for the additional strain, so it takes longer to charge.

 

so you think this is a permanent issue on the iPad 4 ? i was hoping that iOS 7 maybe could make the battery use better or put out a better charger for ****ing sake

 

It's a hardware issue. Double the pixels means double the backlighting which means double the battery drain which means a larger battery to compensate. Software can't correct the laws of physics, and neither can a larger charger—though Apple has released a 12w charger to step up over the normal 10w (iPad) and 5w (iPhone, iPad Mini) chargers.

The iPad 5 supposedly has a more efficient display panel which requires less LED backlighting. If true, you can easily sell your iPad 4 (getting most of your money back in the process) and just buy a 5.

 

the thing that makes it really worse, even if you connect the iPad 4 to a charger, you can´t use it because the battery will still go down, you really have to not touch it during the charging process

 

Glad I moved to Android a few months back, rather than wait for the 5S.

 

Getting a now pice dropped iPhone 5 soon (have 4 now)....October 1st to be exact. Love when they announce a new one, get the step down cheaper :lol:

whats your thoughts ? it got released today, already have it on my iPad, it says still 6 hours for my iPhone, safari is really different, have to get used to that

 

I've been using iOS 7 since beta 3; the public release has come a very long way. It's pretty amazing how Apple tackled a UI redesign on top of what was already a pretty significant set of feature additions and updates. I don't think anyone else could have pulled this off. I still have some complaints, but this is version 1.0 of a new design coming after version 6.0 of an old design, so I can't complain. Besides, background app refresh (and background app updating) are worth installing for just by themselves.

As for the mild panning of the iPhone 5s above by a couple of posters, uh, I wouldn't be so sure about that eye-rolling, brocookie.

I'm going to stand in line to get a 5s for my sister's birthday, and I'll most likely upgrade from my iPhone 5. I think the 5s will eventually become the next 3GS, a phone that sticks around forever because its features are still relevant to a lot of people.

The update shouldn't take longer than any prior iOS update. It's not significantly larger or smaller in filesize.

Now, there might be more server load and traffic because of the greater number of iOS devices that can upgrade (and upgrades can be done over the air now). The only way to overcome that is just to wait a day or two for the traffic peak to level off.

The fingerprint data is saved locally on the iPhone in an encrypted chip and isn't sent out over the Internet to a server, or to iCloud, or to anywhere. It stays on the iPhone.

Besides, your fingerprints are already on government record if you've applied for a license of any kind. The FBI has had a national fingerprint database for decades.

 

Ok, earlier on my iPhone, I went to the software update tab to make sure I knew where it was. When I got to the install iOS7 prompt, I backed out because I didn't want to install it until I was home. Now, it's telling me my software is up to date -- version 6.1.3. WTF?!?

 

Plug in to iTunes and update through it. Install the latest version (11.1, out today) first.

 

I hate it when articles describe features in the Settings app as "hidden", but here's an article about 12 of them.

 

Well, I don't have a working desktop. That said, I just tried it again, and now it's going through.

 

How do you actual get ios 7? I went to itunes and all i find are things designed for ios 7.
