Boy after watching Chad Henne melt down and give away a game the Dolphins should have won made me really rethink, is Chad Henne really the long term answer for this team....?
Based on his 2 picks toward the end of the game would want to make me say no.
What bothers me is, this team just doesn't seem to improve.
I understand we have a lot of issues on Defense and some questionable receivers.
But we really have to start positioning ourselves for the draft and rethink Henne's long term future here.
We're not going anywhere this season, so I am putting on the 70's glasses and will be pulling for the Patriots to win tonight and for the Colts to lose next week.

This is really, deeply ridiculous. He has had one bad game, and two of his interceptions were neither bad throws or bad decisions. The first interception he was hit while releasing and it sailed, and the last one was tipped at the line. He's made clutch plays late in the game this season, so the idea he folds under pressure is dumb to boot.

Now granted I didn't see the meltdown because of the Jags (God I hate them with a passion because of them having the Orlando market). But from what I read his picks were due to 2 tips, and getting hit as he threw the ball.
I was able to watch part of it up until partway through the 3rd quarter, and he was playing great.
So that being said I really don't think one quarter of one game is grounds to say we need to seriously start considering a replacement. Give him another year with a full TC behind him and see how he performs. There's nothing wrong with competition at the QB position, but if we go into the mentality that a QB needs to be 100% the franchise answer in his first year starting, we will never find a solid QB to play for us.
The odds of us finding Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, Dan Marino, or Tom Brady are so slim. Keep what we have, if he declines further, then start looking. But when you're solid for 75% of the game, and only have a problem when your defense is coughing up points, and your balls are getting tipped/you're getting hit, it's not entirely on you as a QB.
I really wish I could have seen the game to give a better opinion, but based on how he has played for us so far I find it hard to believe he's 100% responsible for the picks, and that he's a glaring issue in our offense.dolfan7171 likes this. -
yup, he is.

Ricky's done too, did you see that INT he threw in the first quarter? Shameful.

One INT was due to him being grabbed right as he threw the ball. The other two were TIPPED!!!

.....""Someone clipped me from behind and it sailed on me," Henne said, describing the first interception, which spoiled what could have been his third fourth-quarter comeback drive of the season.
Trailing 17-14 with 3:30 left in the game Henne could have had one of those heroic moments like he produced twice against the Jets. But instead he contributed to his team's demise.
"It happens. You have to bounce back from that," Henne said of his interception. "Then the next one was tipped and the last one obviously was tipped"...
As to your statement "this team doesn't seem to improve".....WHAT?????......Maybe it's just me, but I think we're way better than we were two years ago. I also think we're actually better than one year ago. The difference? Much, much harder schedule.xphinfanx, Silver&blue94, Striking and 3 others like this. -

To address the question/title of this thread, my answer is only time will tell.
I firmly believe Henne has all the physical/mental tools to be a very good QB. Maybe even a franchise QB. But, there are gonna be growing pains. The kid is still young/raw. At least as far as playing at the pro level. Give him a chance. Heck, how many games has he started...8? And, he's what...5-3 as a starter? Could be 7-1 if the defense didn't blow big leads late against Indy and New Orleans.
I would love to see what he could do with better weapons offensively, and a OC that will put him in a position to succeed.

Pat White hasn't impressed anybody with his passing abilities so far this season. If Pat White had shown anything positive I think they would have had him passing more from the WC instead of RB.
I have a feeling BP and Co. wont give up on Henne any time soon. -
-
I still believe Henne is the future of this team. Bad games happen to good players all the time. Henne just needs to dust it off and move forward.

Chad Henne had one really bad game and the guy is playing behind a patch work offensive line and no number one receiver, no wonder he had a melt down. I guess there was a couple of bright spots in the loss, Ricky is still a beast, and Hartline has potential to be a number one guy and Fusano showed back up. The bad part Ginn didn't show up and dropped another pass and had a false start at a crucial part of the game, but Ginn is not the main reason why we lost the game. We lost due to turn overs Buffalo had four interceptions and you would have a hard time winning a game in the nfl turning it over that many times. Over all as far as this season goes let me quote a famous poet, Porky Pig " thathats all folks!!!"
If it took Ginn three years to develope into the player he is today, then Henne deserves the same. -

Ok, so let me do the math. These are the people that the "masses" want gone:
Tony Sparano
Dan Henning
Chad Henne
Pat White
Ronnie Brown (Replaced with CJ Spiller if I'm correct. Let me borrow the crystal ball when you're done.)
Ted Ginn
Channing Crowder
Gibril Wilson
Akin Ayodele
Reggie Torbor
Joey Porter
Jason Taylor
T-Pain
Did I miss anybody? And, has anyone reached out to Randy Shannon so that we can field a respectable team to replace half of the team that the message board will be cutting this OS?
Just trying to get our ducks in a row....

The guy had a bad game!
It was really his first in 8 starts, give him a break. And a couple of those INTS were caused by either being hit as he was releasing the ball, give that one to the oline and the second was a good defensive play, the ball being tipped and caught.
Granted, at the end of the game, the Bills defense made him look like Mark Sanchez, but come on. Are we supposed to change QBs every time our current QB has a bad game? Please! Was anyone asking this question after he lead us on several game winning drives earlier this season? NO! Lets not over look the 2 dropped passes on one of the last drives while still only 3 points down, Bess and (what a surprise) Ginn, both through their hands.
Our biggest problem is the defense, and the consistent 4th quarter meltdowns. If anyone needs to lose their jobs it is our DC or maybe the answer is that our guys up front are just too old to play an entire 60 minutes and need to be replaced. We know we have a young and talented secondary that needs time, just as Henne.
And what about the play calling? 1st and goal and we have Ricky throwing on a short field when everyone is packed in tight? What a bone headed call that was. And if you are going to throw, where the hell is Pat White? I mean we used a 2nd round pick JUST for those calls, yet he is no where to be found.
What a pathetic showing. Offense only mounts one good drive the entire second half, the defense once again falls apart. We used Ricky SO much in the first half, then he was limited in the second, bad coaching! And we should point the finger at Henne who is trying to bring us back? -
Thanksgiving Day 1999 vs the Cowboys...Marino throws 5 INTS after coming back from an injury. Where were you Henne haters then? Did you call for Marino's head after that?

Ricky isn't done...
THAT IS WHY WE DRAFTED PAT WHITE!opfinistic likes this. -
Yeah, I think that he'll be the answer. I think that the three INTs were a bit deceiving- he was rushed/gotten to on at least one and one was kind of a DT deflection/surprise of an interception. He needs help from his WRs as usual.
It really wouldn't bother me if we spent every pick on WR, NT, and ILB. Weed out the average and get the right people in there, shot gun approach. If we draft around #15 I wonder if Benn/Tate/ Dan Williams would be possible. Or McClain/Benn/Williams, who knows. It still seems like a mystery to me how high Benn will go, but every time I see him I think that he looks like the answer for us at WR. And even having Bess in the slot and playing better lately, you've got to like Golden Tate and what he could add, not only to our WR core but the return game as well. Yeah we have Ginn at KR, but his clock is ticking and Bess is average at best as a punt returner. -
There was no need to be cute at the goal line
Henning is senile and clueless
Run the ball down there -
There's a difference between being critical and calling for Sparano's job (which is something I have not seen posted on this site). In fact, I've seen very little criticism for the head coach (aside from me), which I find amazing considering that pathetic and lethargic performance yesterday afternoon.
I think Tony summed it up best himself with the following quote in the Miami Herald:
Also, I think we can say with certainty that Sparano is not a "master" motivator. -

How long has Vince Young been sitting the bench? Look at the guy now. If the Titans thought they way some of you do, they would by 0-10 with Young tearing it up with another team.

-
We should have just pounded it down their throats and into the EZ for the TD.
Just bad -
I see improvement in Henne every game and I have no doubt he could be at least a top 10 QB if we give him time and some targets. But if we don't get him some targets we'll be out of most every game when we get down by two scores in the 4th and we'll almost never put any teams away.
-
-
1, they were all great QBs
2, they all had great WR talent
3, THEY ALL HAD BAD GAMES ESPECIALLY IN THEIR FIRST COUPLE FREAKING YEARS!!!! -
Look, I respect what Tony did for this organization last year, but I think he's been pretty mediocre across the board this year with mistakes ranging from clock management to second half adjustments and now with motivational shortcomings.
I'm not calling for his job, but the guy should be getting some more heat from fans and media alike for his performance this season.
I'm done discussing Sparano here though, mainly because this thread is a discussion on Henne, and out of respect to the rest of the board, I do not want to derail that topic. I just felt I needed to defend my position on Sparano in light of the sarcastic post earlier in the thread. -
A halfback pass on first down at the goal line with Ricky Williams.
That has to be one of the dumbest offensive calls I have ever seen.
Pat White and the Pistol on a possible game winning drive for 2 yards. The Pistol formation is a waste of time. It never works. Pat White can't throw all he can do is hand off. Henne can do that.
Henning will be calling a good game and then he fuzzes out and decides that what he is doing isn't good enough and he gets cute. I'm sick of it. I guess you are okay with how things went down yesterday. I think the guy has lost his marbles.
Do you always talk about other peoples poo in your post? That is strange. -
Another worthless thread. Anyone who thinks Henne is a bust or that he is somehow to blame for the loss yesterday seriously needs to stop typing. And yes, Henning does in fact suck. I don't care that Miami was/is #11 in points scored, long drives, or whatever. The fact is.....when it comes down to crunch time, Henning FOLDS/CHOKES/SUCKS. I don't care that he might call off 10 good plays in a row. Then when the ball is on the opponents 3, he dials up some bull**** call. That one BS call in the redzone or at midfield COMPLETELY negates any of the good calls he made on the particular drive.
Seems like there is only one person on here trying to defend this guy. The guy has been in the NFL for what, 30 years? I know why Henning has bounced from team to team during his tenure in the NFL. You want to know why? BECAUSE HE F***ING SUCKS
