In general, I agree with you. Many analyst mentioned that new offenses hinder QBs for about 8 games. I do believe you have unrealistic this season. I suggest you do not judge him until games 9-16. Then let loose the dogs of war if he does not perform.

His combined numbers the last 3 games, including that horrible first half against GB

    68 comp., 94 att., 799 yds, 6 TDs, 3 ints, 8.5 yards per attempt, 105.8 rating .... 14 rush attempts, 132 yards, 9.4 avg

I'd say things may be starting to click a bit more for him.

The new offense has nothing to do with his lack of pocket presence and slow internal clock though. We know Lazor is coaching him to get the ball out at the bottom of his drop and to make faster decisions, they have both talked about it. He is also still taking costly sacks, which has always been a problem, and today he drew a grounding call which was just as costly or it would have been his 5th sack on the day.

He was atrocious in the Chiefs game and it was one of his now two games without an INT. We all had best hope he doesn't have another performance that bad this season... Hopefully the light has gone on and he is getting over the hump and will settle into the role. Another positive is that Wallace now has as many TDs has he had all of last season...

10 TDs to 5 INTs... on pace for 27 TDs and 13 INTs.

And that includes a meaningless pick on the last play of the Buffalo game.

People keep saying he "takes costly sacks." Not all of these sacks have been him just "taking" them. I would say most are not him "taking" them.

The 5 INTs on the season are a little high for my liking but other than that he's played very well the last 3 games.

5 INTs in 6 games is high? 2.3% INT is pretty decent

Of course they all aren't on him, but 2 of 4 were directly on him today and if not for the grounding call he would have been sacked 5 times.

Just those of us who want him to be able to take us to the playoffs and win a SB. He's going to have to continue to improve and work on those mental mistakes as well as not taking sacks.

No one is trying to take his very good game away from him, but he needs to use this game as stepping stone to an even better one. As DJ said, he shouldn't settle...

If he had more TD's i'd say it wasn't so bad. Aaron Rodgers has 15 tds and one INT I think.

Aaron Rodgers is the best QB in the game and a potential Hall of Famer, not fair to hold Tannehill to those standards as of now...

And another bounced off of Sims' hands and into the defenders. A few plays after Simm's took a TD off the board with a holding penalty, to boot. The only two "bad" picks thrown this season were against Green Bay. Six games, one half where our QB threw a couple of stupid passes that got picked off. Thats quite the improvement over just about anyone we've had in a long long time.

Rodgers and Tannehill college stats are damn near identical. Rodgers, however didn't start and barely played in his first 3 years of the league. They are similar QBs though. Tannehill will be THE guy in Miami.

I disagree. On one of the sacks people were screaming to throw it away, he was in the pocket and would have had to completely readjust his body to throw it near a WR to avoid the sack. It was one that everyone was on him about.

Another he -could- have because he was rolling left, but in my opinion he actually hadn't left the pocket yet. He would have needed to throw it at someones feet in a split second before being hit.

He's been sacked 14 times in 6 games so far. If Lazor hadn't had him rolling and running this game, it could have gotten real ugly out there today. Pretty sure Lazor will keep this up, but Tannehill has to work on his timing as well.

Here's the problem though....outside of the QB, there's 4 big things that effect pass play timing:

    1. Horrible oline
    2. New offense
    3. Poor OC
    4. Poor receivers

Tanny has had 1 or more of those every pro game he's played.

It's not the number of sacks. It is the rate at which he is being sacked. If you call 50 pass plays and get sacked twice, that's actually pretty good. Coming into the game, Tannehill's sack rate was 5.1% (i.e. once every 20 dropbacks), which is good. That's in the Andy Dalton/Tom Brady/Matt Ryan type of territory of quarterbacks who do not take that many sacks. It just seems like a lot since we had 40+ pass attempts in a couple of games.

There were only 2 games in which he passed more than 32 times and both were ultimately losses where he was playing from behind for various reasons. The rest of the season Lazor has kept him around 31/32 attempts. In this game he was sacked 1 out of every 8 attempts. No good at all.

The point of all this is that while Tannehill had a very good game today, these should be what we either expect from him or a "bad" day. Let's hope he continues to progress and improve...

    One little tidbit of facts...

On their 3rd year first 6 games...

Peyton had 12 TDs, and 7 INTS... team was 4-2...

Brady had 6 TD's and 7 INTS... team was 4-2...

RT has 10 TDs and 5 INTs... perfection does not come easily and quickly.... I assume...

I believe he needs more time...

You'd have to go 19-0 to accomplish that feat. And I think Bpk's expectations are far more plausible.

Fact of the matter is...guy could play near flawless football for next 4 games..then have a stinker and youd hear everyone screaming hes a turd.

It doesnt matter though, thats what I have to get through my thick skull. At the end of the day....hes gonna be our QB...hes gonna play well...and we still need to invest in developing QBs. The same guys will probably be *****ing next year as well.....just have to learn to ignore them. Thats what Im trying to do.

I haven't been as down on Tannehill as most on here, but I still don't think he has done enough to shake off the "inconsistent" label. Let's see how he plays the next couple of games... this next game is one we should win, and good, consistent QB's generally win these types of games.

actually the next gm is a matchup nightmare for us. When we lose it has been because we were facing top 10 pass rushes. Jags are number 3 in sacks and very good vs the run. The secondary which was blowing its coverages and giving up huge plays first four games of the season has settled down recently. This should be a defensive struggle and we have a kicker tat is 50-50 right now. Don't blame tannehill for the ugly game to come. Its going to be on the oline
