Will there be a run on QBs in this year's draft? Take a look at the 2009 crop of QBs and tell me that doesnt look pretty weak right now. Got this list from a draft forum. Anybody know if TC Ostrander will comeout this year or next. I thought he might be a good free agent experiment 1 Tim Tebow, Florida* 2 Mathew Stafford, Georgia* 3 Sam Bradford, Oklahoma# 4 Cullen Harper, Clemson 5 Todd Boeckman, Ohio State 6 Hunter Cantwell, Louisville 7 Chase Daniel, Missouri 8 Mike Teel, Rutgers 9 Chase Holbrook, New Mexico State 10 Rudy Carpenter, Arizona State 11 Rusty Smith, Florida Atlantic* 12 Graham Harrell, Texas Tech 13 Jake Locker, Washington# 14 Colt McCoy, Texas* 15 Mark Sanchez, USC* 16 John Parker Wilson, Alabama 17 Josh Freeman, Kansas State* 18 Riley Skinner, Wake Forest 19 Nate Davis, Ball State* 20 Stephen McGee, Texas A&M 21 Curtis Painter, Purdue 22 Nate Longshore, California 23 Zac Robinson, Oklahoma State* 24 Tom Brandstater, Fresno State 25 Sean Glennon, Virginia Tech 26 Tyler Lorenzen, Connecticut* 27 T.C. Ostrander, Stanford* 28 Xavier Lee, Florida State* 29 Bobby Reid, Oklahoma State* 30 Matt Grothe, South Florida
It actually looks pretty good to me man. Have you seen some of those guys play? Forget about Tebow as he won't come out and probably isn't an NFL QB right now but some of those other guys are really good. Stafford and Cullen Harper should both be high 1st round picks. Boeckman too, if he follows up this year with another storng season. Take a look at those guys next year and I think you'll find it's a pretty good class.
Those top 3 won't even declare most likely. Tebow for sure, Bradford almost for sure. Stafford needs to stay in school.
I am no expert when it comes to juniors unless they are likely to come out. I never scout for the future and I will spend an entire game watching the offensive line if there is a senior offensive tackle that i want to look at. I know there are alot of guys who follow juniors and sophmores so I was wondering what your opinions were.
Who, Tebow? Tebow's already stated he intends to stay at Florida for another two years. Personally, I think everyone should be prepared for weak QB classes for a while. College offenses simply are not preparing QBs to become NFL-ready. The ability of a coaching staff to project a player's NFL abilities and groom them properly is more important than ever. (One reason I think we should keep Cameron.)
That is certainly an issue Desides. However, I do believe that you will see more "spread" principles in the NFL moving forward. Look at NE, they are basically running a Joe Tiller "Purdue Spread" with 4-5 wide on even short downs. This is espescially true as the rule changes continue to tilt toward the passing game.
Absolutely, and this is one of the only things that makes me leery of Parcells. his philosiphy has always been conservative offense with a strong running game. Running is great and will always be the foundation of a good team, but all of the top teams are built around their passing offenses. NE, Indy, Dallas and GB just overwhelm opponents, which comepnsates for defensive/running game deficiencies.
I agree 90% percent. Ever since the Patriots rule regarding DBs was instituted the floodgates have opened on passing the ball. The old days of grind it out football just dont put up enough points nowadays to go the distance. The saving grace with Parcells is he does evolve, although reluctantly lol. His Dallas offense was pretty loose when compared to his Giants days. He hasnt taken advantage of it the way Belichik did this year but I dont expect a three yards and a cloud of dust approach either. What he will demand is the ability for the offense to switch into that mode when protecting a lead or in bad conditions or just eating up clock in certain situations. He will demand the ability to run on demand. Still, so long as the ridiculous rules continue regarding DB play, passing is the way to go in today's NFL and he's not the guru in that department that others are. I'll tell you Cameron actually runs pretty nice schemes in my eyes. I know I'm in the minority on this but I really like the schemes. I just dont think he has the players to execute it. I would love to see a Cameron offense and Parcells defense loaded with the players to execute it efficiently. If w drop Cameron maybe we can get Josh McDaniels from the Jets. He's an up and comer and has some very cutting edge innovative schemes as well. I really hope that if we do cut ties with Cameron we keep a offensive minded coach
It's not the number of receivers I'm worried about, it's the fact that college football uses the shotgun so often that quarterbacks are uncomfortable in an NFL pocket. Just look at Phillip Rivers this year. Good out of the shotgun, embarrassing in the pocket.
Which one? Like Desides mentioned, Tebow has already stated he plans to stay all 4 years, plus its just the type of person he is, values academics more than football. Bradford will only be a sophomore, very rare that sophomore QBs declare. Especially when OU looks so strong for a title run. Stafford needs to stay in school to improve his game IMO. He was REALLY hyped up coming into Georgia and hasn't quite lived up to it. The talent is there but he hasn't shown it all yet.
Agreed. Though I've noticed New England has been running shotgun or 5 WR spreads quite often. Could ignite a trend.
Rusty Smith is the name on that list that stands out. Cantwell has a big rep, but not a lot of time to fulfil it.
I forgot who he was by the name, and had to look him up for a reminder. Dumass I am for forgetting. I love that kid. He can flat out throw the football. I only saw him against UF and Memphis this year, but he was excellent both times.
Let me ask you Boomer, since the point of my thread was to get people's opinions on how this class compares to the 2008 class what's your take? I never pay attention to anyone I dont think is coming out, simply dont have the time. So my opinion here isnt that knowledgeable. But it seems to me that the 2008 class is vastly superior to the 2009 class. What's your take?
