I think the only game time the guy has missed was that Jets game last year when Moore took over in the first half. His shoulder was bothering him if I recall(?), and that was when he was behind Jake Long...Tannehill is an absolute tank, and the evidence is this season. Are we getting lucky? Does he take hits really well to limit the damage on his body? Adamantium skeleton? But honestly I rather Ryan protects himself first and foremost in sack situations....even saving a fumble is not worth the health of your QB.
I do not disagree that Tanne has the potential to be a good QB. The OP question was is he Franchise. Maybe we should define Franchise. Please do not misunderstand. I love this team just as much as everyone else here. Just not ready to call Tanne Franchise. Franchise to me is Dan Marino, Tom Brady, Drew Brees, Peyton Manning type player. 3 wins in a row and I am not ready to anoint him. One thing I have always admired about Bellicheck even though I hate the Patriots is his understanding and his willingness to always upgrade or build depth. I want this team to win the super-bowl. If a player comes along that is an upgrade, you upgrade. It is always about "The Team" not personal preference. I love Tannehill, but for me it doesn't stop with just him. To me anyone on the roster is fair game, anyone except Marino. I was kind-of partial to that guy.
Sorry if you think I am pompous. If I typed something that offended you, my apologies. I believe it was you friend that called my original opinion, ridiculous. Do you disagree we should upgrade any player at any position when an upgrade is available? Was my statement, which I stand by. If a better player comes along, like it or not we upgrade for the good of the "Team". I simply am a realist and not ready to anoint Tannehill a franchise QB yet. Do I like Tanne. Absolutely. Best QB to come along since Marino. I love this guy. Is he franchise...jury's still out. For the record, I also am very High on Ireland and company. Always have been. They are "The Miami Dolphins", my team, my love. Drive me crazy at times, sure. But I try to support them regardless. It is good to see depth on this team, and that depth is directly attributed to Jeff Ireland and company, with little interference from others. Available being the key word.
Chances to find someone available is almost nil. I do not see the point of bringing in someone who is close to as good to compete with him. I am a believer that too many cooks spoil the broth.
Definitely do not want to start a QB controversy with a developing QB. However, a player that creates a solid backup or can potentially make Tannehill a better QB we should never turn a blind eye to. An example would be someone like Pennington toward the end of his career. Good enough to back up and a solid Vet to help Tanne develop.
Not saying there are upgrades to every player. edit: (apparently I did say that) What I can tell you is Tom Brady was drafted to back up Drew Bledsoe (franchise QB) Look what happened How many super-bowls have the Patriots won as a result.....
