Is it? Could it be? Another good safety to go along with Reshad Jones? IAQ played a magnificent game yesterday. Had the pick, had the pass break up on 4th and 1, made the tackles he had to make. If this dude continues to play like that, and Reshad remains the elite player he is, and if Howard continues to get better, all of a sudden our secondary goes from potentially awful to pretty good. Gase made a great hire in Vance Joseph. I hope this continues, because if it does, we might be building something real good here.
I was very, very happy with him yesterday. Had not real expectations going into the season, so I was worried, but he stepped up so far.
I liked the potential when we signed him, but I never thought he'd play like THAT in his first start. He looked like an absolute stud out there. That was the best non-Reshad game from a safety I've seen for us in years.
but wait, I thought our whole offseason was already written up as a complete loss? It's just one game, but impact from: -Isa Abdul Quddus -Mario Williams -Kiko Alonso (actually thought he had that INT before Isa jumped up and picked it off in front of Kiko) -Steen - played admirably for a backup. might be our starter for awhile -Warmsley - really hope this guy can move up to #3 and keep Mitchell lower on the depth chart -Maxwell - jury is still out. didn't see his name called much either way yesterday.
Quddus played a great game, far better than I expected him to do. Even Howard didn't look to bad yesterday considering he's a rookie and missed almost the entire preseason. Well I thought that the D line did a great job helping our secondary. They kept the pressure on all game til Williams and mitchell went down. Williams played a great game yesterday. If he was on the field for the last drive I think we would have won that game. All in all the defense was much better than I anticipated.
I thought he played well yesterday too. Made some good plays on the ball. A friend of mine who is a Lions fan told me to expect good things from him, he was a bit ticked off that IAQ left and came here.
I'll admit I wasn't expecting it, but I was very happy to see the way we tackled and speed we had to the ball/carrier, and IQ was leading the charge. He's a huge upgrade so far
I'll be glad if we can at least maintain that consistency for our home games. How great it would be to have a really strong home field advantage. While we have good fortune against the patsies at home, I'm tired of being bullied by the Jets and Bills on our home field.
Saw an article that Quddus was the top rated free safety by PFF for yesterday. He was the top rated player on our team followed closely by Reshad. Hope he keeps it up!
