Jake Long snubbed by AP All-Pro team http://blogs.palmbeachpost.com/thed...olphins-jake-long-snubbed-by-ap-all-pro-team/
This is the exact reason college football needs to have a playoff system instead of people voting for who they think is better.
It just shows you that even the All-Pro picks are flawed. Does anyone really think that Welker was better than Larry Fizgerald?
Exactly Welker is nice, but not on Fitz's level.... I'm how did Clady get picked over anybody else?? His stats are so inferior to anybodys...
The Associated Press decides these all-pro awards and what does the press know about football? Nothing! I don't understand why the coaches and players don't decide them.
Well they do: Fans players and coaches = Reg Pro-bowl voting Long got in. (these players actualy play in the PB) AP Pro-Bowl = Press decides Long didn't make it. (Only the ones that match the above list play)
He was named to the the 2nd String All Pro team. Clady was most likely a make up pick for his season last year. When it all boils down to it the award doesn't mean anything, and he was at least reconized on the 2nd team. Maybe the fact that he was only 2nd team will motivate him to not get *****ed around by John Abraham again. I kid, it was certainly a rocky start and he settled in as the future 10 time All-Pro for the rest of the season.
We have several players listed there including their near misses... Davone Bess MIA Welker lite; not as quick, not as lethal, but better than anyone else has. Anthony Fasano MIA A second consecutive top season for Fasano. Making that trade look more like robbery every day. Jake Grove MIA Would have had the back-up slot but for late injury. Jake Long MIA Started badly vs. John Abraham W1 but just got better and better. Vernon Carey MIA Someone said that Carolina have the best T combo. No chance. Lousaka Polite MIA No one can beat his blocking nor his 568 snaps as a FB. Randy Starks MIA May well be forgotten as 3-4 end but not by us. Superb vs. run and pass. Vonnie Holliday DEN Great season in Broncos sub packages, top pick-up, needs more snaps...OOPS! We these guys and Ronnie, Ricky, Henne on offense, it looks like defense should be the priority this offseason.
Clady was snubbed by the Pro Bowl last year. He made the All-Pro team last year. He made it this year on reputation, not on some kind of "make up call" from last year. Clady was clearly better than Long in 2008. Long was clearly better than Clady in 2009. It will be interesting to see the Joe Thomas/Jake Long/Ryan Clady AFC post-season awards go for the next 5 years. At least we got a guy in the argument. Remember Damion McIntosh?
I have to completely disagree. There is noMiami Dolphins who even deserves consideration for the "All-Pro" team except for Long and Polite I think Starks, and Grove could have had a shot at the Pro Bowl, but they are by no means "all pros." Carey is a decent RT, but this list does not discriminate between RT and LT. LT will always be named over RTs. Plus Carey was very inconsistent.
Just checking, are you serious with Fasano or joking??? he had a top season?? where was I for 16 games......this year actually started to undo that trade if anything....Akin is a bum who cant cover to save his life, makes a tackle here and there....and Fasano disappeared this year....not only that but Carey was inconsistent all year....one of the highest paid inconsistent RT's as well.....
Reading what you guy's were saying prompted me to go look at the stats. While its true Clady only gave up a half sack he is also credited with a whopping 39 pressures. There were 4 LT's rated higher than Long in 2008. I didn't bother counting the number ahead of Clady.
i dont know how clear it was considering Long was the better run blocker and gave up 2 more sacks then Clady....so im not being a homer at saying, Clady played better, but not clearly.
