http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/seven-points-going-early-not-good-for-tebow Skip the Tebow stuff ;p See bolded part. Guess whose going to be on our Field Goal blocking unit! Also 2 of our rooks made the funny quotes list:
odrick doesn't move real well laterally unfortunately projected as a 3-4 five technique DE now we are possibly going 4-3/hybrid i dont see him getting at the QB imo
What? I don't buy into the "Odrick will make people forget Taylor" hype, but dude will have fine pressure numbers. Wake at one DE, Odrick at the other, Starks and Langford at DT, they will generate plenty of pressure.
that is a ton of movement for guys who are geared to play 3-4 just to get the #1 pick involved not only do i see the odrick pick as a project but i see the scheme as a project
Well, the way I see it, our Dline with Wake and Odrick on it would generate more pressure than a Lb corps with Misi and Anderson at OLB. I've been banging on that drum for two years Killahp and I am really glad it is coming to pass. Put it this way, all 4 players had success in the 4-3, imho their skills are good enough to relegate the 3-4 to part time/different look status.
no not at all odrick uses his hands real well vertical guy and he is better as a 3-4 DE to suddenly expect him to fit as a 4-3 DE dont see it his knock to me is lateral movement
He kicks inside in the 4-3 Alignment. Starks moves back to DE in 4-3. Odrick is going to have a huge impact.
I'm not, 5 Lb's with two OLB positions open and Dansby on the roster, I think there will be a blood letting among the veterans on the Lb corps, as in maybe Charlie Anderson and JD Folsom last.
Won't matter, there are going to be many Dline stunts and slants into the backfield. I love the thought of Wake at DE and Odrick at DE.
Misi Dansby Anderson Odrick Langford/Soliai Starks Wake Aside from Misi, all of those players are 4-3 players who also happen to be our most talented defenders at the moment. Edds and Dansby are the ILB's in the 5-2 basically our nickel Lb's and Dobbins can play in the 3-4 packages. Spitlik and McCoy are special teams players or practice squaders. That means such luminaries as Crowder, Moses, Walden won't see the field all that much if they are still dolphins. BTW, in that alignment you can see Misi's value, he will play the "53" or "Elephant" role as he played DT/DE and will play OLB in Miami..that shines some light, to me, why we chose him at #40.
If we need someone to play 4-3 d end especially on pass down id like to see quentin moses there again as he had a heck of a rookie season playing DE then last year we moved him to linebacker and he kind of fell off the map
"All of these?" Two were in round 7 and are probably development projects that would be fortunate enough just to make the team. That leaves Misi, Edds and Dobbins. Considering we no longer have Taylor, Porter or Ayodele, I don't think it's much of an issue.
you guys are over analyzing all of this. us running a 3-4 and us running a 4-3 isn't too much of a big difference. In the end, these guys are football players. if they're on the field, it doesn't matter where they're standing, they know they have to stop the ball carrier and get the QB. A football team isn't a machine, these guys aren't cogs that need to be plugged in exactly right, they're football players. They'll be fine. In fact, i think they'll be great.
Why do Penn State players always look slow on film? Anyways, from what I saw on youtube, Odrick was always dealing with double teams which speaks well of his power. He's basically our Richard Seymour, and those are pretty big shoes to fill...
schemes play a huge role with your personnel but I'll agree to a certain point. in nolan's hybrid defense you want seven guys who can play up front and move around excluding linebackers. I still think in 4-3 Odrick moves inside because of his hands and his vertical ability. This draft has presented a lot of options in terms of moving guys around up front. i would not rule out seeing a 5-2 eagle front at times with starks playing the nose a a yard off the ball. It lends to zone but creates mismatches. The old fritz shurmmer defense. starks at NT odrick and langford at DT's wake and misi at DE
Exactly KillahP, this may or may not happen, "but" it is on the table for 2010. To me, Mike Nolan is the most innovative DC since Arnsparger, Lil Nicky was good, but he was the Head Coach.
i griped about the odrick pick but im over it he can move over in 4-3 and play DT create middle pressure in 3-4 DE he is 5 technique guy thats the way i see it don't see odrick as a 4-3 DE really
