Think about this......this is all you need to know. Jason Allen just got cut in favor of a 36 year old guy who has just got over a ripped up knee after one visit......
Welll......ooookkkkkkk....... MEMO TO MYSELF..... READ FORUM THREAD TITLES>>>>ANSWERS ARE PROBABLY THERE. Duh...we signed Al Harris.
Added a new Lb a #44 to the mix. For those saying this smells desperate, recall in 08 Sparano would cut/bench/freeze out anyone who was not performing..period. I'm glad to see they have made their Evals and are shuffling things for the final 8 games, no one should be untouchable.
I don't recall them doing it during the season though Pads. Not 8 games in. This isn't baseball. Teams don't magically get better later in the year with guys coming and going. I'm glad to see they're making (what they feel are) necessary adjustments, the timing just seems odd to me. Then again, I don't know that the **** this regime is thinking half the time.
I don't know if this makes players work harder..... or if it just creates an atmosphere of fear and tension that gets inside players' heads and disrupts their performance?
eh, he was a good ST player that was getting 1st round money. He got his opportunity, had a good game, then was below par after that. He has had what, 4 years to prove his worth? I am surprised he even made it to this season.
Sure they did, Andy Alleman did not start until right around now, and they brought in Derek Smith as a backup ILB right around now. For what they wanted to do on Defense and ST Allen no longer fit so it is better to bring in a Vet they can trust even if he is 85% of JA because they know he can fill his assignment.
Out of all the pre 2008 drafts, only five players remain: Vernon Carey Ronnie Brown Channing Crowder Paul Soliai Brandon Fields
Turn it around.... What does it say when you bench a guy and he doesn't go into the game on one of the 6 plays that you need him in the game.......What does it say if you allow him to stick around?
Ronnie Brown and Crowder will most likely be gone after this season to. Chance Soliai moves on to....but in free agency (I can't see the Dolphins paying large to a NT that would go back to a backup. Too many teams desperate for a NT).
Henne is far to young a Qb to waive the OC FY. Should be interesting, wonder if they like Amaya and Ness more than they have let on?
i guess the real issue was is he better than al harris because who else were we going to wave for harris? not Carroll, hes too young, not sapp, VD or SS... so had to be Jason... i think its dumb though, fine hes not a starter, but is he not a viable backup? especially that he plays special teams... will al harris play special teams? i doubt it... dont know if i like this... and Jason Allen was on the field for the fake punt covering the other gunner, dont think this has to do with that
Actually Padre, I can say what I've been thinking during Jason Allen's entire career. I think he was too dumb to understand coverages. That would explain why he would never make it at free safety and it makes him a one trick pony. Tell me when you have seen him have success at ANY coverage other than press man.
why is everyone in this thread saying Allen was at fault on the fake punt? he was covering the other gunner, watch the play http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-game-highlights/09000d5d81bebd0b/Ravens-covert-on-fake-punt
you missed my point...... which was wondering if this cutthroat mentality negatively affects the psyche of the team and its players.
I don't think its cut-throat at all. I would guess it was done as a courtesy to Allen once he had no shot at the starting job. We basically had to convince him to come back by telling him he would have a large role on this team.
Gotta say, after all the ripping he's been through, did JA ever have a bad word? He's a class act. I still say he's Jim Jones' Doppleganger.
I don't know if cutting Jason Allen was a good call. Sure he cant up alot of big plays but he also leads the team with 3 INTs and is a solid back up and special teams player. I for one am a little worried.
EDIT JASON ALLEN WAS ON THE FIELD DURING THE RAVENS PUNT I kept thinking that I should check that before I threw him under THAT bus. I just checked the DVR and I repeat, Jason Allen was on the field. Now the question is who was suppose to be on the other side? There were only 10 men on the field. Bess came up from his receiving spot to cover.
You would have to define "cutthroat". They do what they have to do, if that means cutting someone because they suck, then so be it. But they will always be straightforward with players, and aren't going to play any games. I don't think it really applies to this case, one way or another though.
