Im a bit shocked. I figured it would be Sapp on his way out since we signed Harris. But I guess that would indicate to everyone that the FO really dropped the ball on the Camarillo/Sapp trade then. Can't have that now can we? Hope thats not the case. I didn't think Jason Allen was anywhere near as bad as Benny Sapp has been this year.

If their egos were really that big that they would risk their jobs to not admit a mistake, they would have not cut guys like turner.

Yeahbutwhat? The mildly surprising release of a player is desperate...how?

There's really no evidence that the coaching staff besides maybe Dan Henning has any real need to be concerned about their job status, either.

Just as a head up, Jason Allen is currently tied for 17th(with 30+ other players) in Special Teams coverage tackles on the Dolphins with a grand total of 0. He is credited with a single missed tackle.

I checked one other thing. It's Jonathan Amaya. Amaya took Smith's spot in dime package. When we were in dime, Smith came in as the extra DB while Jason Allen was playing corner. Amaya seems to have taken over that role for Smith.

Jason Allen didn't sniff the field in the last game with the exception of special teams.

I must have missed it, I don't remember hearing anything about him from that game. Was he the one who was supposed to cover the gunner who went completely uncovered?

wha??? yea thats a bit of a surprise to me even though im not a fan of allen i thought it would be sapp that got the papers.is it because sapp is doing more on st's or that he doesn't fall on his face every time he makes a cut?

We'll agree to disagree. I'm not concerned with how the coaches or FO "do it". I'm only looking at how it affects the guys on the team. Are players here becoming so fearful of losing their jobs that it's affecting their performance? We haven't exactly played slop-free ball all year in any facet of the game. Just curious if there's a correlation. For Pete sake we use a friggin horn in practice to control the QB.

Ah they gave JA the starting job to see how he would do in that role. I'm sure they were hoping they could trade him before the deadline.
He couldn't keep his feet under him and failed.
We don't have a juggernaut on ST's so it's a bit surprising on that front but the guy is nothing special.
    Not shocked by the move.

Maybe so but as Unlucky said, these guys cut White and Turner fairly quick along with other pickups like Gibril. I don't think the FO minds admitting when they goof and moving on.

NATE NESS was the other coverage person versus the Bengals. Nate Ness was not on the field versus the Ravens.

Difference is Clemons is more and more getting in perfect position to make plays .... while Allen was routinely beaten like a drum the past few weeks when he played.

I don't disagree necessarily. I'm just saying IMO Allen was cut because he didn't want to be here, and that it was agreed upon prior to the season.

I'm willing to bet that he was acting like a biatch about being benched and he probably dogged it on special teams in practice....

Clemons failure in the Bengals game led to TO scoring a TD, his failure in the Ravens game to come up with the Int in the endzone allowed the drive to produce a TD.

It is not enough to merely bat the ball down, you also have to make the play on the ball especially at Free Safety

Do you have one of YB sulking after Keller smoked him for a TD?

I wouldn't he will probably wind up in Cleveland on a waiver claim, their pass defense was 26th in the NFL.

I don't understand this move. Is Al Harris going to improve our STs? At least Jason Allen provided great value in that regard.

Unless Al Harris is going to immediately start for this team, I don't get it. Plus, how is he better than Will Allen? The only thing I can guess is he is better at making plays and causing TOs. Anyone think this is an indictment on Sean Smith?

I think it means they feel Nesss or Amaya have the ability/potential to be as good on special teams and have better upside as a situational player if not as a starter.

Combine this move with the signing of a 35 year old guy coming off knee surgery, then yes it's desperate to me. JMO.

And the only reason JA has been on the team as long as he's been is because of his contributions on ST's. He's proven himself there. I wasn't aware of his numbers this year.

Hard to understand how a guy who hung around so long..even made it back to being a starter could get cut at random.

Well hopefully he doesn't end up at Buffalo and turn thing around. My biggest fear is he will end up being another Wes Welker. I might add that I wanted them to keep Wes Welker.

That's been the biggest fear we have heard over and over again when we cut players. It's like the Miyan calender and the year 2012.

Jason Allen has had his opportunities 10x over and he has not cut it (no pun intended).

This is not desperation this is for the here and NOW.

Jason Allen has the brain of a Rocky Balboa without the talent.

Cut him in the middle of the season? We'll see.

I wonder if all of this churning of the bottom of the roster may be a partial explanation of why our ST play is questionable. A little stability may not hurt
