''The next question, of course, is which teams might be interested in Bush. According to one of Coles' sources, "Among the most likely candidates for Bush’s services … are the Miami Dolphins, Pittsburgh Steelers, Seattle Seahawks and the New York Giants. Miami and Pittsburgh are looking to add speed on offense. Seattle is coached by Pete Carroll, Bush’s former coach at USC. The Giants’ interest would depend on whether the team is able to keep running back Ahmad Bradshaw once free agency starts.''
I think the need for his particular skillset in our offense is a must, and the need for a dynamic punt returner is even more of a must.
I mean If that knee checks out, he really would be a nice compliment to Thomas...I'am fine with Bradshaw and D williams too, but those 2 do not return punts, and once and for all, we've got to settle that position with a dynamic player..
Man this is a tough call between the three..All I know is we better get one of those in a dolphin uniform, and when we do, man are we creating some beautiful balance on our team.
Just wanted to spread that news from cole, haven't seen that before, and that dude is pretty reliable, he really doesn't say stuff that isn't true, at least from my recollection.
Mods, I understand if you want to merge in the scatback thread.

UDFA pool has some solid possible returners. I think it also depends on the cost compared to say a Darren Sproles.

Not saying which is which either..
 -
I'd welcome Reggie to the team without question. I don't think he'll cost as much as some think, he'll probably draw more than Darren Sproles but deservingly so, IMO.
Three things Reggie Bush can do for Miami:
1. Big plays, big plays, big plays. We need big plays.
2. Add some lightning to the backfield. Thomas' running style is similar to Ronnie Brown, we need a change of pace guy.
3. Take Davone Bess off punt returns to focus solely on being a receiver. I love Bess, but a good punt returner he is not.Aquafin likes this. -
How bout the Sproiles Kstate connection. -
Another name to watch out for is Scott McKillop, Fipp coached him in SF and he is also a ST hoss. -
Like I mentioned in the other thread, there's really not a whole lot of reason for Reggie Bush to be anything other than what he was in New Orleans. He didn't suffer from misuse, he's not in the wrong blocking scheme, and he's not got a lack of talent around him.
Reggie Bush isn't really someone who is good enough to share a workload like the coaching staff will want. He's someone you target if you have a known, reliable workhorse back who you know can handle 250 or so carries and be productive. -
Reggie Bush? Do want, either as part of a two man or a three man rotation. Wouldn't mind seeing a RBBC setup where the workhorse alternates depending on series or whichever is hot, but Bush is always the #2.

I'm tempted to start my "what if we sign Deangelo?" thread but I wanna save it until I'm reeaaaalllly fiending for football.djphinfan likes this. -

BTW, I'd rather Sproles over Reggie Bush, because he is also very durable. 1 game missed in 4 yrs, while Reggie has missed 20 in that span.unluckyluciano likes this. -

Well you have to figure at this point in the game we have to investigate all possibilities as once free agency begins names will be flying off the board. Think of it as the 2011 Draft 2.0 as all teams have had ample time to indicate needs and potential candidates. I just hope RB is one of the top priorities and we get who we are really targeting. I think Bush might be on the list but as Option #3 or lower.

We definitely need a speed guy in the backfield and this report should not surprise us.
Sproles would seem to be the top choice as he is much more durable, has a lower center of gravity and is even more versatile than Bush (who doesn't return kickoffs). He also has less than half as many carrier carries as Bush (goes to wear).
That said, Sproles is two years older (28) and, partially because he has been franchised in the past, is going to want a bigger contract IMO.
I don't think Sproles really has much effect on Gates. But I do think Gates could effect Sproles. IMO, a preferred course of action might be to have Gates be the kickoff guy and save Sproles 50 or so touches a season. Either way, Gates is being counted on in the offense, so I don't feel he'd be out of a job so to speak. -
I don't want Bush as even the #2 option at RB. Bush is simply not a very good running back. I love his skillset but he's a better WR/KR/PR then RB. If we sign Bush we should still sign another back who can take 20 carries should Thomas get hurt. Yes, I am saying Bush and either Williams or Bradshaw or Michael Bush. Bush is a terrible between the tackles runner. Should something happen to Thomas and Bush is the #2 back, we would be up the creek without a paddle as they say.

Let me ask this question why cant we keep Ronnie cut Hilliard and just sign DeAngelo Williams then our rb corp cold look like this.
1. D.Williams
2. Ronnie B
3. Thomas
4. Cobbs
I know Ronnie gets injured some but hell he could have done a great job if the idiots calling the plays would have let him run the ball and not this stupid wildcat stuff. this only my opion because i hate the possiblity of Ronnie going to the jets or the patriots and then winning a super bowl. that would kill me.
-
I really hope Ireland makes a strong move to get Bush. Gonna take some very interesting decision-making. We'll probably have to make some big concessions; just hope we dong surrender too much just for Bush.
Too bad Bush is such a hot commodity everywhere else; it's gonna be really tough.
Either way, depending on how spread this offense is next year, we could be getting a lot of Bush. -
I wish that we could keep Ronnie and just cut Hilliard and then bring in DeAngelo Williams and Sproles . my hope was to have Ronnie win a super bowl with us instead of him going to our rivials.
it would be cool ,but unlikely to have a runningbck squad of Sproles, Brown, Williams and Thomas and maybe cobbs .
my take on this issue is Ronnie was sabatoged by Dan Henning who was obsessed with using the wildcat ;so how can our backs perform with a situation ? -
Would rather target DeAngelo Williams, Ahmad Bradshaw, Michael Bush or Darren Sproles.RoninFin4 likes this. -

I think Sproles has a more limited dynamic then Bush. As bad as Bush is between the tackles, I dont think Sproles is any better. But I do think Bush is a better WR and I think in that capacity we could really have a field day with him. He should be used in a role like Eric Metcalf was used by the Browns years ago. he should be a WR primarily but handle the ball as a KR/PR as well as a couple times during the game on sweeps or Off Tackle runs. Let him make plays in space. -
Bush is an East-West runner, not a North-South runner. What they'd probably have in mind signing Bush would be him running Ricky Williams' fly sweep role in the Wildcat. And that pisses me off. I'm really getting sick of the Wildcat. Something that's 10 percent of our offense AT BEST, bleeds way too much into our personnel decisions.
-
I like Michael Bush too, but he's a a Daniel Thomas type back anyway. I'd rather get Ricky Williams on the cheap to be the second back and bring in a Sproles Bradshaw, or R.Bush to be the change of pace. Either way, we need a back up for D.Thomas anyway.
The most attempts Sproles got in a year was 93 (68 att/year average over last three years).
Ahmad Bradshaw makes the most sense. His most attempts was 276 of last year (77 att/year average over last three years). He's proven he can be a work horse and change of pace back.
If we don't get Bradshaw, we're going to have to get two running backs anyway, IMO. One to back up Daniel Thomas, and one change of pace / scatback. So then it becomes a choice between Sproles and R.Bush. -

I don't want another slot receiver. Reggie Bush isn't a "terror" to anyone, except maybe USC. There's a reason the Saints gave up an arm and a leg to get Mark Ingram.
Darren Sproles hasn't had a lot of action in his career, only 249 carries, but he was a 4th rounder where Reggie Bush was a top pick. For Reggie to be as minor part of the offense as he's been from a running standpoint, that's been a huge disappointment. Sproles has averaged 4.6 yards per carry in his career, which includes 4.5 yards per carry on 1st & 2nd down, 4.5 yards per carry running "left", "right" and "middle" (as opposed to "wide left" and "wide right").
And for whatever this is worth to you, PFF gives Reggie Bush a +0.2 rating over the last three years in the "Rush" category, versus a +3.6 rating for Darren Sproles. Sproles will probably come cheaper, and arguably gives you more Reggie Bush than Reggie Bush.Stringer Bell and Boik14 like this. -
IMO Sproles is a much better runner than Bush is and almost as good of a receiver out of the backfield. The only advantage that makes Bush more desirable is his age. However, I also think that most teams know this so that Sproles will be a much hotter commodity. I think there will be several more teams bidding for Sproles compared to the attention Bush will draw.
-
In my opinion Sproles actually fetches more cash on the open market because hes less injury risk and coming off being franchised.
Also, I dont believe you can have too many players who can catch the ball. Yes, ideally you would want a more proven Flanker but Metcalf played a lot of Flanker in his career which is how I would use Bush. Let him extend the field and get him out wide in space. I wouldnt use him as a slot receiver at all. I dont think his skillset really lends itself to that anyway. When I watch Bush play, I kind of want to get him in 1-1 situations on the perimeter of the field. -
