What we did, its textbook personnel management from our GM. Why sign an older vet player, in the decline of his career to a fat contract when you can get younger in the draft.DolfanJake, Fin D, fins1 and 1 other person like this. -
Why? He made a professional decision, he wanted to play for the NY Jets, and signed with them.
This idea that Taylor (he is no longer "JT") just had to sign with the Jest is one of the more delusional notions I've seen.
Does anyone recall what Jason Tessio's mantra was in April of 09?
"I missed my family while I was in Washington, I am willing to take less money to be with my family in Miami"
Has anyone..and I do mean anyone...heard that from Jason Tessio before he signed with the Jets this year?

Getting overly sentimental and overpaying a player just because he's a fan favorite is a sure way to put together an unsuccessful team. You keep doing this and the next thing you know you have no money to sign the Dansbys and/or the Marshalls, etc.DolfanJake, Hellweed, Ozzy and 2 others like this. -

Like I said on another thread, all the *****ing about jt, yet if he was cut everyone would have said so long and thanks without a thought about it. You can't have it both ways.

Honestly I Cant Believe Some of You Miami Dolphins Fans. We Have to Respect the Desicion JT made. The Dolphins FO wasnt willing to "show him love". Jason taylor Is one of the leagues best pass Rushers and do you see what we were paying him, it was practically Lunch Money in the NFL. Nd remember we are in a recession.
I believe JT made the better decision for his family. You cant always make the fans happy. We all knew deep inside The Dolphins FO didnt want to bring back JT. Whats Done is Done. JT is a Jet and i wish him the best Miami Dolphin Or Not.finfansince72 likes this. -
Im kinda torn as many are im sure, but like Padre said theres the bull**** factor If he really believes these were his only opportunities then he needs to get a agent.
Jason'
Dont go telling me you understand the business side and say you respect them decisions when you spew this BS sorry. You made the Jets cake now you get to eat it too. good luckLast edited: May 1, 2010padre31 likes this. -
He joined the Jets after spurning 2 contract offers in Miami...full stop..all of the "wanted to be with my family" stuff from April 09 and the 'they only offered me one contract.."
Was a deception princekong2...or else one believes Taylor's family was important in 09...but not in 2010...dude lied to us all.
Taylor spurned 2 contract offers in 09, thrashed the front office on his way to the arch rival Jets, and lied about the whole situation.
Sorry dude, but thems is facts., one wishes to believe Taylor is a hero, the ugly truth is, Taylor is a very self serving ego driven persona for those who see him for what he really is...DolfanJake, DOLPHAN1, late again and 1 other person like this. -
Same old JT always pointing fingers... I was on the fence before but i'm actually glad he's gone now. I think all the woe is me and passing blame is bad for team morale.

JT made his bed and now he has to lay in it. I am over it and looking forward to watching Dansby, Edds, Misi and our new defense. It was to time sweep out the old and bring in some new younger blood.

It's your opinion and perception of a situation. It's hardly a fact. It's no more a fact than me giving you some circumstantial [at best] evidence that Tony Sparano is having spaghetti for dinner tonight. As I said earlier, nobody knows a situation better than judgmental fans getting all of their information via 'he said, she said,' or speculation. JT left, bottom line. Maybe he was being selfish, maybe he was disrespected, maybe he was being disrespectful, we don't actually know any of that. His agent says one thing, he says another, the Dolphins say something completely different. So please respect us all enough to stop trying to sell us your opinion of a situation as a 'fact'. We can all sit here and handpick the stories and quotes that suit what we want to believe. Just because he decided to not go with the situation most ideal for his family doesn't prove anything. They may have given their blessing. We don't know. -

There can be no "perception" when there are statements to the contrary, one can decide for oneself the reliability of Ireland saying they had a offer on the table after the season, however that is not "perception".
Perception involves speculation, a fact, is a fact.

# 5 down that page, Kim Bokamper, who has far better access to Dolphins insider stuff chats with Sid Rosenberg about Taylor's two contract offers...
You tell me Muscle, is Kimbo lying as well as Irish?DolfanJake, late again and Fin D like this. -
There is nothing wrong with being drivin im that way but be honest -
Who claimed there was a second contract offer, only to have his agent hop onto the phone line and say there was no contract offer in Miami?
Who is the one who claimed in 09 he would take less money in 09 to "be with his family"? Yet who signed for slightly more money in NY? Who played golf after the season..yet claimed they needed to rehab their shoulder?
The absolute only thing Jeff Ireland has said publically is "there was an offer on the table after the season"...
Who left a 8-8 Redskins team to join a 11-5 Dolphins team to leave them and join a team that went to the AFC Championship Game?
Taylor reminds me of the Saddam character from Southpark..

He is the Saddam H character from Southpark telling Satan "I love you" and that pisses me off to no end, Taylor chose the Jest over the Dolphins everything else is noise generated by Taylor to sucker his fans into believing 'he had no choice..:angry:DolfanJake likes this. -
both Zach & Jason are Miami Icons
my best wishes to the both of them -
So what changed?
Well, one could speculate.
How about this possibility. Before the 09 season the Redskins were viewed to be improving. The Dolphins were viewed as a major renovation project coming off a 1-15 season. Before the season started Washington appeared to be the better team.
Yet we won the division, and the Skins?....didn't live up to expectations. Now all of a sudden Taylor misses the Dolphins.
Next year, we end up back on earth with a 7-9 record and missed the playoffs.
The Jets? They went to the AFC Championship game and are now favorites to win the AFCE.
So is it a coincidence?
I don't believe so.
So yeah do whatever you feel is right Taylor. It's your life. But quit lying.DolfanJake, padre31, Fin D and 1 other person like this. -

JT has 127.5 career sacks. He is the current leader among active players but 11th all-time since they have started keeping track. He is at a point in his career where he starts thinking about his legacy and his chances at the Hall of Fame. If he racks up 15 sacks with the Jets this season he would have 142.5 career sacks passing Michael Strahan and finishing 5th all-time.
JT is not going to get 15 sacks playing in a limited role for the Dolphins.
Rex Ryan loves him and wants him to be a major part of the defense. Plus the added exposure on HARD KNOCKS will only help with his career in Hollywood after football.
The only player the Jets lost to free agency was Thomas Jones but they signed LaDainian Tomlinson and traded for Antonio Cromartie and Santonio Holmes. JT has to be thinking they are Super Bowl contenders. Fifteen sacks and a Super Bowl victory would all but secure his spot in Canton.
I gotta tell you. Now that I look at it. I am kinda rooting for the guy. He was a great player for us during a time when we didn't make the playoffs very often. He played for five different coaches over thirteen years.
JJ drafted Taylor with the 73rd pick in 1997. If the Steelers, Colts, or Pats had gotten him at 82, 86 or 89 JT would be a Hall of Famer without question. No doubt in my mind.
82nd pick - The Steelers drafted OT Paul Wiggins from Oregon.
86th pick - The Colts drafted LB Bertrand Berry from Notre Dame.
89th pick - The Patriots drafted DB Chris Carter from Texas.
Let's face it. Ireland and Parcells did not want JT. Yeah they might have signed him if nobody else did and he was just sitting there waiting for them. They could have easily outbid the Jets if they wanted to.
If.
They.
Wanted.
To.
But they didn't want to.
Aside from the Jets winning the Super Bowl I hope JT gets everything he wants. -
Taylor is a big boi and can go play for whomever offers him a deal, however the wounded martyr bit is a lie, one that is being perpetuated, and that sours me on any positive feelings I may have had for Jason Tessio.
5 yrs from now? Bygones are bygones, however if one watched the OP's video, Taylor was still playing the role to the hilt.
Mean old Jeff Ireland doesn't respect me, I have no choice but to reject their offer and try to win a super bowl..err...take the only offer that I've led my fans to believe that was on the table..
