Just saw him on SC say that a reason why Green Bay's offense is sputtering is because Joe Philbin is down in miami and no longer the OC

I think we're never going to realistically have a lot of idea unless someone comes out from inside the Packers and tells us.

This is something I had actually wondered about. We know he wasn't the playcaller, but one would assume he had quite a bit to do with gameplanning.

I think the fact Aaron Rodgers is routinely getting his *** kicked behind a weak offensive line has more to do with their offense struggling than Joe Philbin being gone.

GB's offensive line has consistently had issues for years now.

Plus for whatever this is worth to anyone in particular, PFF gives their offensive linemen pass blocking grades of +6.4, +1.9, +1.4, +7.6 and -7.4 (Bulaga).
Whether that's accurate or not...I can't say. But it would certainly suggest that PFF doesn't believe you can pin this on the offensive line's pass protection. One guy being a consistent weakness in pass pro is something you can account for in your game planning.unluckyluciano likes this. -

I think Green Bay's historically efficient offense is just regressing toward the NFL mean this year. 122.5 is not a normal passer rating. Let's not talk about that being a season rating.

No offense, but if Philbin was that incredible I would have expected more assistants to follow him from GB to Miami. Practically none did.
GB simply coming back to earth is much more likely. There's only so long you can live without a running game after all.
I believe there was a gentleman's agreement to not raid the Packer's staff.

Fairly certain that type of thing is frowned upon.
That is correct.
Besides...once you hire Mike Sherman he has a bunch of his own staff to hire. I suppose Philbin could've targeted the current OC of the Packers to come down to Miami and take the same job he now has with the team he's coached for, for the last bunch of years...but A) good luck with that sell for essentially a lateral move while simultaneously moving AWAY from Aaron Rodgers, and B) there's the agreement they had in place not to engage in that kind of activity.
Incidentally if you want to know why things went sour between Bill Belichick and Eric Mangini, this is exactly the reason. Mangini focused on raiding Belichick's staff despite a warning from Belichick not to do so.
McCarthy and the Packers made it clear that's not what they want to have happen and Philbin abided by it instead of doing the schmucky thing and raiding them anyway, burning bridges in the process.
But if your name is Bill Parcells....it's kosher. Gut the staff and the front office, no problem. It's fine, because he made Thriller, man. Thriller.
Interesting dynamic between Belichick and Mangini when you look at that timeline. Dysfunction junction.
That gentlemens agreement is of mutual benefit .If he gets fired from the Dolphins or gets fed up .he will be welcomed with open arms by that regime .
Mangini burned his bridges .
