Source. I do agree with Jaws that Moore has a habit of throwing flutterballs, that are easy for DBs to pick. But he is an excellent backup and a capable starter. Maybe we can get some trade value out of him after the season is over.
Which he is, BUT he does not really fit a WCO variant, put him in SD or Oakland and he'd do great, but a 90 play offense is just not going to suit his skill set as not only does his deep ball flutter, he has poor pass placement.
I believe this will be Moores last year as a Fin.He may have some trade value this year if Tanny develops fast and Gerrard stays healthy .
The 12th highest rated QB last season is the 26th best in the NFL? Also worse than Mark Sanchez? E!SPN has done it again.
To MMoore's credit, he does get constantly under estimated and manages to come through if given the chance. INOW, would not surprise me if he really develops this TC, same token, would not surprise if he were traded to a friendlier offensive team...AZ comes to mind...he and Fitz would be a great match.
I caught a little bit of Sports Center yesterday and "Jaws" was actually saying a lot of really positive things about Moore. Is this where he rated him 26? He had a lot of nice things to say especially about his ability to throw deep and reacting to the blitz.
Yet another person who refuses to look at Matt Moore's small frame and his 14 fumbles, 6 of them lost.
6 fumbles behind a terrible offensive line is not some huge negative CK. Colombo and Carey were awful, Long was sub standard, and Pouncey a rookie had some bad snaps. True story, the loss to the Broncos pretty much fell on Daniel Thomas for whiffing on a blitz pickup, but stat sheets don't acknowledge that factoid.
Excuse denied. 14 fumbles was tied for the worst in the league, with Blaine Gabbert. Gabbert started more games.
I don't think Moore is anything special, but I think he's better than 26th if you're going based on last season.
Yes Jaws. His negative about Matt Moore basically breaks down to "not every deep ball is perfect". That doesn't sound to me like a significant negative. He's just another guy who failed to explain one of the real negatives about Matt Moore and that is his slight frame, pocket presence and fumbling. That's certainly not the only negative, but it gets ZERO attention. For the life of me I can't figure why. I just think it's something that slips down the cracks and shouldn't be. A turnover is a turnover. I personally would love if the passer rating were amended to account for sack yardage, run yardage, run touchdowns and fumbles. If you tack all that onto passing stats and do it for all the qualified passers then Matt Moore's passer rating drops to #20 of 34...behind Ryan Fitzpatrick and Tim Tebow, and I feel like that's a more accurate accounting of the total value he presented to the team as a quarterback. If you go by JUST the passing then he's #12 of 34.
Sack yds? Marc Colombo was the worst RT in the NFL, Jaws mentioned he was 6th best vs the blitz, so the #2 slot in sacks allowed came from base looks for the most part, our blockers were just getting whipped at the LOS. MMoore's issue is poor pass placement, wide open Wr's had to break stride to catch even simple passes consistently.
That's about where I'd rank Matt Moore... somewhere in the mid-20s in the NFL. Right about where I'd rank Sanchez. Both are backups, IMO.
Mark Sanchez still threw for 26 touchdowns and rushed for another 6. His first three years are by far and away better than Drew Brees with much less experience. The guys a goober, sure, but he has potential and ability. If he gets his turnovers down and completion % up (which he probably will in Sparano's offense) he might have a very productive season. I wouldn't rank him anywhere near Matt Moore. Matt Moore is very limited.
Moore is the closest thing Miami has to an incumbent QB right now, hence, he's going to have his fans that will love him despite any flaws. See Henne, Chad; Beck, John.
At best he's Jon Kitna or Jake Plummer. Inflated numbers I attribute to a general trend to inflated passing numbers in the NFL, e.g. 3 5,000 yard passers in one season after 2 for 70 years.
That is probably true. He had some good years under Shanahan. What he did relative to the time is much better than Sanchez in context of today. His numbers are much better too.
