Zimmer means Nolan would be gone. I would rather bring in an offensive minded coach and keep Nolan as DC.

The Defense in 2011 blew 4 leads, and we lost 5 games by 12.6 points on avg.

Tell me again why we need an "offensive minded" head coach?

I certainly don't blame Ireland for all the problems in the world. I only blame him for most of the problems with the Dolphins football team. The rest of the world can settle their own problems.

The notion that Parcells would advise Zimmer not to take the job with the Dolphins is absurd.

Also, there is zero proof that Parcells left because of the way Ross was running the organization.

I don't know a lot about Zimmer. However, even if he were the best DC in the NFL, it would not automatically qualify him for a job that is, IMHO, completely and utterly different. I do understand that whomever the Phins wind up hiring could turn out to be a great head coach. I'd just rather Ross go with someone who has already proved it, at least at some level.

Great. We can get embarrassed again.

Ross is quickly losing my confidence, and my patience. I am starting to feel like I am a fan of a logo, and that is an empty feeling.

whether the HC comes from an offensive or defensive background means nothing in today's NFL. In fact, I looked at the other 27 teams in the NFL (the ones that still have their HC) and their records this year and whether their HC was from a defensive or offensive background:

    Offensive HC's = .525 win percentage.
    Defensive HC's = .550 win percentage.

You going to fight for the 2.5%?

I believe the front seven is very much built for the 4-3. What we lack for it is what we already lack for our 3-4.

I think that's throwing the baby out with the bath water. There are some very good coaches on this staff.

OT: did anyone notice how well our special teams units performed this year? That has long been a sore spot for us. We all remember Bono getting fired midseason last year. Darren Rizzi did a very good job IMO.

Remain calm. The Bucs are zero threat to anyone. That franchise is much worse than ours.

Those guys are just not there this yr LL, a little vignette:

SD Owner Spanos hit up Bill Cowher about coaching the Chargers in 2012, Cowher told him, flat out, no thanks because Marty Schottenheimer had been treated shabbily in 06, and Cowher had worked for Marty in the early 90's.

INOW, those guys are not all that hungry to get back on the sidelines.

Bucs are interviewing anyone who ever coached in the last 15 yrs, Mike Sherman, Brad Childress, Marty Schottenheimer, Zimmer is just one in a long list, if he goes there for an interview at all.

I love the fact that Zimmer runs the 4-3, if one looks back at our successful yrs, you will find the 4-3, if you look at our crappy yrs, 3-4, when Marino was scoring a zillion points in the late 80's and losing..3-4, when we lost in Super Bowls..3-4.

    I just don't like the 3-4.

Might need a LDE who can passrush though.

Absolutely, look at this way, Moore and Bush posted career best yrs, Marshall came close to a career best yr, so did Fasano, they performed well enough that I'm not sure if the problems scoring Td's are a result of Daboll, Qb play, or just a lack of playmaking talent on offense.

I did, 2 blocked punts for example but was it Rizzi, or the addition of Dave Fipp?

Adding STers like Mitchell and Trusnik?

If they do make a change, fmr Dolphin Coach Steve Crosby is unemployed, his SD units were usually Top 10 and he was on the 82 SB staff

And still waiting on Goose's final ST rankings in the Dallas News.
Zimmer may be conditioned to accepting it after a couple of yrs in Cinci though.

Its not that we need an offensive minded head coach, we need someone who can find and effectively develop a QB.

Well he left with a year and a half left on his contract, for which he was paid in full. It would appear to me that if he actually enjoyed working with Ross, he would have stayed until his contract was up. If you want to go on believing that all was great in the relationship between Parcells and Ross, be my guest. The fact that Parcells suddenly cleaned out his office and just left the facility, certainly says a lot about how he felt about the Dolphin organization and the man who owns the team.
I also find it interesting that Parcells has not made one favorable comment about the Dolphins or Ross since he departed from the Dolphins organization.

True, but is a head coach, or good Coordinator/Qb prospect mix more important to doing so?

This guy is awesome. His 4-3 defensive scheme is a pseudo 3-4 and the personnel Miami has is excellent for his defense. As far as who would be quarterback under him I'm not sure. Perhaps a project like Osweiler. Regardless this would be a very well run scheme:

    LE- Langford (five tech)
    LDT- Soliai (one-gap nose tackle)
    RDT- Starks (three tech)
    RDE- Wake (nine tech)
    LOLB- Dansby
    MLB- Mitchell
    ROLB- Burnett

All of those pieces fit and fit well and don't even include the depth Miami has. A DE would be a very likely pick, perhaps Quinton Coples to play LE. Either way expect Zimmer to get the most out of these guys and for the schemes to always make sense.

My prediction for Miami's pick? Morris Claiborne from LSU. Zimmer loves pure cover CBs that can get it done.

A strong possibility would be a trade up from the late second round into the first. I'm not sure who they would use but a late first round QB in that area would make some sense. I still expect Matt Flynn to end up with Cleveland if Philbin is not here.

that was some interesting reading with the Zimmer/Parcells relationship. You'd have to think Ireland and Zimmer would get along and get along well.

Listen if Tyler Wilson enters into this draft, we've got a good thing going at 8/9. One of those guys will be a great pick.

Will point out if Zimmer can win with Chris Crocker, Gerbil and Reggie Nelson then Clemons, Jones and Sean Smith would be all pros.

I'd like to see Smith moved inside.

Zimmer has been in the league since 1994-95, I don't think not being experienced as a Head Coach would be an issue.

Jimmy Wilson would be a nice pick for a FS for him. He doesn't mind undersized safeties as long as they hit hard. Perhaps Wilson at FS with Clemons at SS. If you're front can protect against the run just with the front seven that's a wonderful way to play ball in the secondary.

Coples would be a nice pick to play that oversized left end and then move inside on pass downs with Odrick next to him. Just outstanding depth. Makes signing Matt Flynn a real proposition.

Tough choice: A young Kevin Carter at LE that can go inside and produce like a big sack threat at DT or a top cover corner.

Chances are that RGIII, Kalil, Claiborne, Blackmon, and Luck are gone. Richardson at 4 with Cleveland and Matt Flynn makes too much sense. That leaves it to guys like Kirkpatrick, Coples, Keuchy, and Upshaw. All are interesting players and in Zimmer's 4-3 they'd find a fit.
