Yup that was floated around last year when people considered him. That he needs to spend a couple years at least as a coordinator.
This is one instance in which the Dolphins are correct. Chud and Jay Gruden are in the same boat: talented up-and-coming coordinators who don't have the experience necessary to establish themselves as head coaches. They definitely wouldn't be able to put quality staffs together.
It's a tough call - will you get the next Mike Tomlin, or will you get the need Rahim Morris? Taking a guy a little early may ensure you get the next hot guy, but if he truly is not ready, then you just get chaos. I think it is easier for an established team like the Steelers had to take a coach with less experience. In our case, I think we need someone who is really ready to take the reins.
Guys we haven't even included Hue Jackson what if he turns into him? Maybe Lovie Smith or Tony Dungy? Damn I hope Bowles doesn't turn into Herm Edwards... The theme continues!
Don't agree on Gruden. Many may smirk at his experience as HC in the Arena League but I can assure you he got more experience that he would need as a HC there than some of these long time coordinators ever have. Did a great job of leading those teams as well.
he worked under Schotty and spent the last 3 years as either OC or Assistant HC .... i wouldn't have a problem giving him a shot -- someone has too. i think his biggest challenge would be to assemble a staff ... dude understands offense.
Beside a mountain of cash Ross isn't qualified to be an NFL owner so why not have an under qualified HC...... Again.
I'd say he's as ready as Mike Tomlin was ... about as ready as Theo Epstein was to be a GM as well ... Just because CAM was a bad hire ... doesn't mean we shouldn't take a chance again. Chud is a better OC than CAM has ever been .... my 2 candidates are Chud and Zimmer .... i'm good with either ....
