Well, Darlington is clearly out of the loop when it comes to Dolphins inside information. We already know for a fact that Dolphins management is a very unattractive and undesirable pit of snakes and nest of harpies.

Who told you that the GM works under the capologist? Because that's not true. Aponte's job title and the job title of general manager are at the same level of the organizational chart. One is not above the other. Aponte used to work under Ireland until Ross promoted her to an equal level.

Many people on here have been claiming that the GM position isn't clearly defined and it seems like the new GM might be under Aponte. he was making a joke about those people. All you did was miss the joke and, essentially, agree with his premise.

LiferYank constructed a strawman, which you just repeated. I deconstructed it. No failure was incurred.

Here's the thing about strawmen, they require a basis in fact in order to be at least passably plausible. Who are these "many people on here have been claiming that the GM position isn't clearly defined", as you state? If there was such a crowd, they disappeared after last week.

Tell you what, let the people who write their own posts defend their own assertions. Don't white knight them.

Ok, sure, no one but no one has been complaining about Aponte having too much power in this process and they she may have power over the GM. That simply never happened, clearly me and all the others are making it up.:pity:

Again, who are they? If they're so numerous you should be able to name them off the top of your head. The fact that you can't name them means they aren't very numerous.

Desides, there's been a consistent group of people crowing about Aponte following the exit of Ireland. Could I name them all? No, as I try not to focus on their negative stuff too much.

Also, please don't accuse me of "white knighting..." I'd prefer to be Robin Hood.

Really bothers me how loosely (incorrectly) people here use the term straw man . I also had a good laugh at the term" white knighting"... it's a message board..... lol. (In before I get replied with a Google definition of straw man and a defense against an argument I'm not making)

With Ireland gone, Philbin and Aponte don't want a new GM who would threaten them.

The bottom line is now Philbin and Aponte -- fresh off a victory over the last general manager -- want to make sure the next general manager is not truly empowered. The last thing they want is for Ross to hire a guy who will have the power to hire and perhaps fire Philbin and or Aponte. It's not speculated crap that Aponte was involved in our 2012 coaching search and the selection of Philbin. What, you think that's the only thing she encroached on the football side of things away from her financial/legal side? Honestly, do you want her making actual football decisions? It's not horse**** that Ireland was offered a raise to stay but contingent upon having less power over personnel. Ross & staff wouldn't have created that entire GM job search disclaimer about giving the future GM full autonomy if it weren't a concern, so just stop.

Why? What's the angle? Ireland wasn't fired. He rejected a raise and resigned . So why would there be a need to fabricate all this stuff, and even more than that- where are the reports disputing it?

I'm sensing we are about to hire a puppet as a GM.

??? We have the power hungry Aponte here and an owner who seems loyal to her and wants to give her more power, enough so that our previous GM wanted no part of it. Granted it can be a good thing that it instigated the departure of Ireland, but that dichotomy can't be ignored when looking at GM candidates who might want nothing to do with the amount of power Ross was ready to give Aponte or the amount of power Aponte clearly seems to want.

Apparently not, not if Ireland wanted Aponte fired and Ross told him to take a hike.. and promoted her instead. Ross wants Aponte to have more power and is also interested in having another czar, right? How much authority does that leave the GM?

I think this is being overblown a bit. If Ross tells Tom Gamble that he will report only to Ross I would imagine Gamble will sign on the dotted line. However, if The Big Eared One makes the new GM report to Aponte then he truly is the football idiot I've always felt he was.

Regardless, he chose not to come here b/c of the power structure. Fast forward 2 years and we have Ireland leaving b/c the owner wants the GM to have less power and Aponte have more. Maybe that was just a ploy to get Ireland out the door, but I don't see that being the case considering Ross has already promoted Aponte and seems to want her to have more and b/c he's interested in both a czar and the absence of unilateral decision making, probably b/c he feels burned by Parcells and Ireland. He seems like a guy who finds out his wife is cheating on him and then treats every other woman on the planet as if they're cheaters too. Either find a GM you have enough confidence in to be the primary decision maker or sell the team to someone who will.

To me this seems analogous to trying to sign Peyton Manning but telling him the offensive coordinator will be making all the calls. Why would a QB of value want any part of that?

The GM under no circumstances should answer to an individual like Aponte who knows nothing about football.

yet Ross has shown interest in both employing a czar and giving Aponte more authority than just the financial stuff. You act like she isn't chomping at the bit to nail down a GM job. If you employ a czar to babysit and expand Aponte's scope of responsibilities then obviously the GM won't have as much control as you're intimating.

Hoping Ross hires Aponte for GM.

If we end promoting Brian Gaine, Aponte and Philbin will be pulling the strings, it's Wanny/Spielman all over again.

If it happens I hope Ryan Tannehill has a great year, stays in one piece....and we go 3-13 and every is FINALLY fired.

That which you think disqualifies her is what I think makes her best qualified - she is not a football person, and she is a money person. She will be responsible for hiring and firing the HC and the Dir of Personnel, managing the money, contracts, and reporting to Ross. She will hold the power of firing and hiring but not without Ross consent obviously. She would be an impartial arbiter based on results over the HC and Dir of Personnel, and fair because it's all based on results. Just like we have here, Ross and her would hire the man with plan, be it HC or Dir of Personnel, and that person would have input on the hiring of the other to help him accomplish the goals. They will be given reasonable time frame to accomplish those goals. That is what we have now essentially. This is a stable structure, where the top decision makers are familiar, on the same page, constant, and those who have issued contracts and directly involved with agents. The moving components are football experts. This is execatly how I think the franchise should be ran, rather then having a revolving door of philosophies and top management.

Thanks Dawn Aponte. I wish you the best of luck in your pursuit to run the Miami Dolphins. You helped select a spineless coach who supported our fired OC and reads from your index cards, then formed an alliance with him, and hopefully next the two of you are shown the door together and you can both can go hug it out.

Weird structure could basically refer to the idea that the capologist and Head Coach managed to fire the GM, essentially. An incoming GM has gotta wonder if those two will be able to wield leverage internally. I mean, if Philbin and the GM disagree on something, does the GM like knowing Aponte will be waiting in the wings to tip the balance in Joe's favor?

That's just from 2 different threads. There's more threads and posts. I am not going to find them all for you.

I suggest in the future, you stop making a strawman by claiming every opposing argument is a strawman.
