I think he does. He has stated it many times. He will have to evaluate things after the draft, and I believe thats exactly what he will do.

i think ultimately there's nothing to say. Jets are going to give a better offer and probably overpay for Taylor and we're not. What else is there to talk about?

Oh and clarifying what Dansby's role will be is nice....but......would have rather had Ireland clarify what his role is on the Miami Dolphins.

Just listened to the presser. Here's what I can come away with from that, if you can come away from anything.

1. I think one important point to take is how he described what Miami's inside linebackers do. He compared them to the SAM position in a 4-3, and he stated that Karlos really didn't do what they want their OLB's to do. To me, that says a lot. It basically says that our OLB's are going to be more stand up DE's and not true OLB's. This may be why they passed on signing Scott Fujita this offseason.

2. Once again, their desire for getting their prototype of player was stated. He said there are some positions where they may make an exception, but there are some positions where they will be very stringent with their prototype. He later talked about Mike Nolan having experience with non prototype OLB's but that he and Bill have gone with OLB's who are more prototype. What does that mean? Well, it could mean that they will make an exception with Mike Nolan around and take someone like Brandon Graham, but it could also mean that based on their experience, they are going to take the more prototype player.

3. He said that just because he and Bill haven't done something in the past doesn't mean they will not do it this year. This could be good for two players in particular. One is the board favorite but a player I hope they don't take in Dez Bryant. The other is the non sexy pick but very fundamentally sound pick of Dan Williams. Bill and Jeff have never drafted a WR in the first round and have also never drafted a nose tackle.

 

he's waiting to see if we draft Jason Taylor's replacement. Obviously they have a prospect or a few and will wait for the draft to play out before deciding on JT

 

Think it means Sergio Kindle is our guy. He fits the prototype. His best year was when he was used a standup linebacker that was moved around to create matchup advbantages and create confusion. Parcells loves those types

The words Ireland and Clarify dont seem to go together very well.

And.....it's very possible that he won't be available by then, forcing them to find someone. Not exactly what I would call a very solid strategy.

 

think its a great strategy. they have basically said the youth movement at OLB starts this year regardless of whether JT is brought back or not. You cant count on 36 year old players to build a winner. The sooner the better. Even if JT is brought back it will only be in a mentoring role. How much you going to pay a mentor?

 

Wait...so other teams can guarantee the player they want is available at their spot?

 

Jason Taylor signing with someone else now would be the best thing to happen to Miami. It would mean that they have to take an OLB high. With Jason Taylor hanging around, they might just be tempted to do what they did last year and ignore the position completely. It was foolish last year, and it would be foolish this year.

 

Right......because there are sooooo many pass rush specialists out there that we could get for cheap, that are proven.

Also, being forced to draft someone to fill a hole is how we ended up with Wade Smith and Morlon Greenwood. So yeah.....not a great position to be put in.

JT as a pass rush specialist would be a great asset and it wouldn't keep us from getting some younger talent for the future. The only thing that could cause that would be more bone head decisions by our FO.

 

A bonehead decision would be drafting a wide receiver in the first round or taking Earl Thomas with the 12th pick. A bonehead decision was ignoring OLB last year and taking Pat White over Clint Sintim.

 

A bone headed decision would be to ignore what JT could do for us and instead gift wrap him for our division rival, who could make very good use of him......against US.

Actually, if E.T. or Dez Bryant were there at #12 you pick the BPA. You don't reach for an OLB that you could still draft if you traded down. Reaching for a OLB at #12 would be the boneheaded thing to do. I don't think Morgan will be there at #12, and he would be the only OLB prospect worth it.

 

even with JT (at WOLB - please) ... we absolutely still need a 2 down SOLB in THIS draft.

that can be Morgan early or Lane later ... but it MUST be addressed.

on the WOLB side we have Anderson, and JT ... on the SOLB side we have Moses and Johnston (nothing really .....) ... then you have Wake as a pass rush specialist
