Yeah for some reason when I go to the website on my computer it isn't loading. It did however load, for whatever reason, on the mobile website on my phone. Hope that helps.

Didn't watch the interview but saw the twitter lines about it put together elsewhere. Aside from his using some strong language about the franchise tag ("likelihood") and from iterating strong commitment to bringing Randy Starks back...whole lot of nothing.

That was what I took from it too. Sean Smith has to be the odds on favorite to be tagged with Starks and maybe Long as the two other options. Either way it certainly sounded like they plan to use it. It would be really funny if they use it on Smith after Armando said there was no way that happens.

I kind of believe the local beats when they say Sean Smith isn't going to be tagged.

Randy Starks is closer to worth $8.3 million than Sean Smith is to $10.7 million. Those are the franchise tag values for their respective positions. You could justify paying Starks about $6.5 or $7.0 million a year. I think the most you can justify paying Smith would be about $7.0 to $7.5 million a year.

If some of these guys are borderline, like S Smith, why don't they use the transition tag, it's a little cheaper, and if some other team wants to pay out the wazoo, then let them and we get a draft pick.

FWIW, Hartline made it be known he'd like a 3 yr 18 millie deal

Which actually sounds about right imo

As for Ireland, yes we know your approach by now there Jeffe, it's not like the team needs fans or something.

So by all means, do what you do best, disappoint us year after year.

Even though, in a divergence, I would take Warmack at #12, he is the one "planet theory" guy that I think actually will be a special player for a long time.

if he cared what the public perception was... he'd be a moron too.

"Let's go get Orton, Flynn, and everybody else.... the fans have spoken......"

I cant wait to see Ireland get to work and build a winner around Tannehill. Everyone who's still crying about Marshall and Davis can go join those me 1st losers. They still believe Ireland alone decided to move them. Not very bright there.

I'm rooting for the Dolphins here so I'm backing Ireland. He's done nothing wrong in my eyes. I like the defense he built, and i expect to love it come next year. Special teams we're very good. On offense it appears we've finally found a young QB and a system to stick with. THANK GOD ? No Thank Ireland and Philbin. It doesnt take a rocket scientist to know you need to set your players up for success.

I actually would prefer a 3 year deal for Hartline. Then double up with 2 receivers in the draft.

He's been "working" to build a winner for 5 years now.

When exactly will this project be completed?

I think that makes some sense with Starks because of his age, and how many miles this man has on his tires, not sure you wanna commit long term to him but we'll see.

Are you Seriously in the belief that with a different GM coming in behind Parcells, and with Sparano running the team.... things could have been different? Seriously? All of you jokers pinning every loss of the past 4-5 years on the GM..... just falting the last remainder. Think a little.

This project can now come together with a young QB to build around, and a consistent system in place to cater to his abilities. Oh yeah a Quality Head coach helps too.

Are you sincerely saying he should listen to public perception? The same perception that said sign Orton? The same perception that said sign Matt Flynn to a big contract? The same perception that said don't give up Brown for Bush? The same perception that said we have to keep Yeremiah Bell?

Should I go on or are you understanding the arrogance of your statement?

True, but Soliai wasn't worth $11 million (or what ever the tag was for him) either, yet they knew they had to keep him. When it's a one year deal I think that changes things a bit. Starks might be the most likely, but if they reach a deal with him and can't with Smith you may see them tag him. I also still wouldn't rule out Long. It would be a big number, but it wouldn't be far off of what he's asking and it would buy you another year to see if he's done or not.

Starks is the best, and my favorite player of all our impending FA's. He's just older, but also the one I think we could have trouble replacing. 8.3 is extremely generous but it buys the d-line some time and allows us to focus on pass rush and eventually replacing him. Probably the only guy I'd consider tagging.

  34. MrClean

    MrClean Inglourious Basterd Club Member

Also, Ireland commented on wanting to keep the DL intact because it is a team strength. IMO, the only way Starks isn't tagged is if they reach a deal with him before the tag deadline.

If they could get Hartline for 3/$18 million and get Greg Jennings (to go with Bess and Mathews) they can go receiver as BPA in any round....to me the key is it would allow us to go BPA in ANY round. We have too many needs to have our draft focused on wide receiver.

I agree, just reminded of when we seemed focused on Qb's in 2011, but didnt take one. The next years class was clearly better, even at that point.
I guess for Wrs its a little different as far as availability goes... but it was a weak class for them last year and this year is loaded with guys i cant wait to see in the bigs. You can't fault them for being thorough there, you need 4 good ones at all times, and we have 5 top 100 picks. One of them will most certainly be a Wideout.

BPA is the way. Some of the best picks were the ones where a player slipped, and a team that didnt seem to need him at the time took him anyway. The two best players in the league right now are examples. ( Peterson/Rodgers )

I love the revisionist history that somehow Ireland is this heroic figure standing up to intense public pressure on Orton when it was in fact Ireland who pursued Orton, allowed it to be leaked to the media through Salguero and others (even Boomer said we wanted Orton well before free agency), and actually agreed to terms only to be vetoed by Ross.

Ireland and the public were equally dumb on Orton but nobody cared about Orton until it looked like we both wanted him and were going to get him

Do notice, not single player you mentioned had a single damn thing to do with the Draft, which is the subject Ireland was speaking on, if one wishes to blah blah, at least bother to stay in context.

    Thanks

Pardon me, in 2011 we may not have had Orton, we wound up starting Matt Moore, and if I can exude some arrogance myself:

"I don't care what some random fan's perception is"

    See how this works?

Odd way, but if the tag is used, it is a good sign that at least the talent has been upgraded somewhat as we went yrs without actually using the full blown franchise tag on a player, it would be the 2nd time in 3yrs it will have been used.

IIRC from 04-10, we did not use the full blown franchise tag a single time, Welker was tendered but not tagged.

gotta love it how he feels the need to always throw a jab at the fans. No wonder we have no fans showing up for games anymore. No one expects him to listen to the fans.
