JetAmerica Airlines Launches Ultra-Cheap `Virtual’ Airline out of Miami, FL

This start-up airline is not even really an airline. JetAmerica is a public charter operator that hires Miami Air International Inc. to provide planes and crews. The operation will start with one leased Boeing 737-800. (Miami Air International already runs charters for cruise lines, sports teams, political candidates, the U.S. military and others.)

Flights begin July 13 from Newark’s Liberty Airport to smaller markets that currently have only regional carrier. The first four markets are Toledo, Oh., South Bend, Ind., Lansing, Mich., and Melbourne-Vero Beach, Fla. The flight schedule looks infrequent and not even daily, akin to Las Vegas-based Allegiant Airlines. From Newark to Capital Region International Airport in Lansing during the first week of flights, JetAmerica offers one flight a day on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

I'll be curious to hear if it's any good once people have tried it. I worry about low end airlines, especially in terms of plane-maintenance.
