They need to just get rid of fan voting in every sport. Pro Bowl, All Star games, etc. There's too much homerism, hateraide and name recognition. Not enough actual objectivity.

Don't agree with Youkilis being there he is the best defensive 1st baseman in baseball and is also one of the more effective batters in baseball.

Players did the vote, not the fans.

While I think he is a good player, I think he is very overrrated.

In my opinion Yuke is a major league 1st baseman and a AAA hitter....but it works!

I agree with this... maybe partially because i HATE the yankees.. but also because i think he's bigtime over hyped by the media... he's a fantastic player and all, but.. still overrated...

The best part of this poll is listening to Yankee fans, the announcers and media going crazy about it. Honestly who cares? The guy is a HOFer so who cares about a poll.

Completely disagree with that and not because I'm a Sox fan. The guy is a career .284 hitter with a .382 OBP and .906 OPS. The guy is a solid/average MLB hitter. He's no superstar but he's no Triple A hitter either.

I disagree RB. I think this does hit Jeter hard. He has always been very full of himself.

To say he is the most over-rated player in sports is however BS imo.

As oppposed to Red Sox fans that are up in arms about a better than average Youkilis... :pity:

Careful Red Sox fans, you guys are very quickly becoming what Yankee Fans once were :wink2:

Who's up in arms about Youkilis, me? All I said was is that Youkilis isn't a Triple A hitter, which he isn't. I would have said the same thing if someone called a Cano or Mark Reynolds a Triple A hitter.

And yes I'm well aware that bashing Red Sox/Boston fans is the new 'thing' to do but again that doesn't bother me either, I could care less because I know myself I'm not a bandwagoner nor am I an obnoxious stereotypical fan.

DEFINITION OF IRONY? I think so

I am FAR from bashing the Red Sox and for the record I have been delighted to see their success, and anything to not have the Skankees win it is a double PLUS for me...but yes, I do find the Red Sox fans replacing the Skank fans as obnoxiuos poor w(h)inners :wink2:

thats just kind of a crappy poll for SI to even hold. I cancelled my subscription well over a decade ago, when those idiots had that Hot/Not cover, with Pat Riley and Shula. Cancelled the jerks and never purchased their stupid publication since.

I don't see any irony in my previous statement about Youkilis. I even said the guy is no superstar. It's not like I went nuts and said Youkilis is the best first base in baseball right now, I simply stated the guy isn't a Triple A hitter, which is a fact.

Anyway whatever no use going back and forth, it's not worth it for something like this, let's wait until Monday when the Backs come into Boston :wink2:

Yep, I cancelled several years back as well. Unforunately they along with ESPN have gone the way of sensational journalism. I really think they sit in the Board room and think up ways to "Shock" people into buying into stuff.

Yep, agreed bro. I think the entire list is a travesty. As little as I think if Jeter, there is ZERO chance in my mind he deserves this title

BTW: The D-backs really really suck right now :pity:

Also, very sorry to hear about Shill having to shut it down for the season. Loved that guy when he was here. Nothing but HUGE praise for Kurt Shilling

Like when for instance? I have never seen anything but a humble and gracious baseball player. And I am a Mets fan.

Sounds to me like there are a lot of baseball players jealous of Jeter. He gets women like Jessica Alba, and all the $$$, and they wish they could have that.

I think the problem is not that Jeter isn't a great player, he is, its just that people place him in a group with the greatest EVER in baseball and ride his jock as though he's the sole reason the Yanks won those titles. He played amazing in the playoffs and I'd vote for him if I had a HOF vote, but he is not even close to the greatest shortstop, I wouldn't even put him on a short list.
