Aside from winning with Andrew Luck who Harbaugh said "Might be the best QB ever" Jim Rome wants to know if Harbaugh is worth all this bouncing around and is he worth 7-8 million. Valid argument
-
That's the whole point, which Jim rome completely misses.
Andrew Luck might be the best QB ever because of Jim Harbaugh.
He wasn't a highly sought after recruit, no one thought he was anything special, and yet now here he is.
Harbaugh certainly had something to do with thatbamadolphin likes this. -

I'm not a Rome fan, but he is right, what has he done to earn this money?
Not saying its a bad move, but he is rightPS17 and unluckyluciano like this. -
He graduated from Michigan. That's where Ross graduated from. -
But to suggest that coaching had nothing to do with his success is silly.
At the end of the day, he's done no more to earn his money than Sam Bradford did to earn that $50 million he received last year. You're making a bet on the future. -

well he's right. the salary for head coaches was pretty much stable before this. If you're going to pay 8 mill per yr for an unproven commodity then someone like Belichik will be able to demand 15 mill. Basically this signing just made the costs of running a football team much more expensive and of course the costs will be passed on to the fans

Harbaugh has what? A 29- 21 record in big time college.
Again, I'm not saying he is a bad choice, but the money is insane. -

Can we change the title of the thread please, it's throwing me off?

He has a good name and is the hot coach at the right time.

This is going to be Nick Saban all over again. Stupid, stupid move to pay him that much money, in my opinion.

Hiring Harbaugh is a risk.
There is an element of him that absolutely is unknown as far as leading an NFL team.
However he is considered to be one of the best developing coaches in the game by both college and pro analysts.
He took a Stanford program that has suffered historically from high admission standards and turned it into a top 5 team.
He does have NFL experience as well and that's always been his goal.
Most importantly I think Ross, Peterson and Ireland realize an aggressive philosophy needs to be adapted by this team and thats why they jumped at Harbaugh.
I'm nervous about Harbaugh as well but I am excited about the philosophies and the attitude change he no doubt will bring.
You only become great by making bold moves. Ross has placed his bet and his legacy will lie or die with the hire.jetssuck and MarinePhinFan like this. -
He was a cherished coach.
I don't fault the PHins organization for making the move at all.
Who knew his heart wouldn't be in running an NFL team.
I see this move as similar and from all accounts there is nothing to show Harbaugh will have the same regret about leaving college for the pros.
In fact if he wanted to stay in college at all he got a prime chance to make a run at a Natl. Championship with Luck deciding to stay at Stanford.
You think NFL jobs wouldn't still be calling for him next year? Clearly he wants the NFL. -

Jim Rome says Harbaugh has done nothing but proclaims Luck the "Best Ever"?
Frig off, Rome. -
every coach you hire is a risk there is no such thing as a guarantee, belichick was **** with the browns and he was awful with the patriots until bledsoe went down and brady came in, now espn worships the guy as a mad genius
cowher was a loser who could never win the big one and he finally won one now he is the greatest, there is no guarantees out there -
Hey, it IS a valid question. What has Harbaugh done?? It seems everyone here is falling over themselves with unjust optimism all the while we have no clue what-so-ever what kind of impact this guy will make,if any at all. Its a ton of money for a coach who never had even a minute of NFL HC experience. Did we not learn our lesson with Saban? I thought he was the one, and look how that turned out. Maybe its me but I have to be impressed before I label it the perfect move.

no one is saying it is the perfect move but sometimes you have to go for it and hope you hit a home run -
