So, amazingly, Watt has 4 touchdowns this season. According to CBS Houston:
Watt's a pretty incredible player though, in addition to be a really caring man mountain.
His last foray into the end-zone came lined up as a TE/WR. Apparently Watt played some TE while in college.
This got me thinking about the Phins current lack of size in the TE position, and wondering whether there might not be someone from the defensive team who could make his presence felt in the end zone?
As far as I'm aware we don't have anyone with a TE background, but maybe I'm wrong, or if not, maybe there's someone out there who can catch?
Any thoughts?

Dion Jordan was the 10th ranked tight end coming out of high school.
-
Yeah Jordan would probably be our best option but I dont think the staff is that innovative.
I'd also think maybe someone like Starks or another big guy lined up at FB in a jumbo goal to go set may help our redzone numbers inside the five. -
Jordan obviously makes the most sense. Who could seriously cover that height?
-
Hadn't caught this before. Knew Dion was tall but didn't realise he had the extra reach.

Didn't Mike Wallace throw a pass a couple games back? If the coaches are willing to entertain that, surely it's worth considering using Jordan (or someone else) in an outside-the-box role - especially if, like Jordan, they're not playing every down. That's energy to spare.xphinfanx likes this. -

This is always such a frustration. -

I would like to see Earl Mitchell get snaps as a lead blocker. He was a fullback and tight end in his first two years of college, and I'd tend to think athletically he can make whatever block you'd like and bring power while being a bit more technically sound than most "reporting eligible" players.

Look how long it took for this staff to figure out that Tanny can run.
Its completely changed his and the offense effectiveness.I guess you can say better late than never.
Jordan was a TE prospect out of HS .He can catch .It would be a logical step to send him into the opponents endzone against a smallish DB. -
Rather than getting "creative," maybe Miami should invest a premium pick into a real TE and not mid round projects w/limited upside?

Interesting idea. I hadn't thought of that. He has the size and athleticism to be a devastating FB/lead blocker.
May as well just go completely crazy. Clay as a wildcat QB (which he played some in college), Mitchell in the backfield with him, Wallace on the jet sweep, Tannehill on the outside at WR and Jordan at TE. Could actually run an interesting package of plays with that personnel.jegol71 likes this. -
I think the idea of T17 as a WR isn't going to happen and shouldn't except, maybe, on some very rare occasions. Either way, though, we can acknowledge that I'll be Ryan behind centre for most, if not all, snaps and the prospective of getting his accurate, fast short balls a larger target or two is tantalising.
This seems like such a good idea I'd love to see it tried. -
Pretty sure nobody is suggesting that Tannehill should see a lot of regular time at WR. But there are looks we can give a defense that can confuse them and may give us a big play or two -- something this team sorely needs. This week's game is a good opportunity, IMO. -
I think a defense sees your QB lining up as a WR and they are thinking, "I'm going to light this guy up!"
I do think lining Dion up on O could be interesting.mbsinmisc likes this. -

I would love to do stuff like this for I think it adds something to the chemistry of the team..and could be quite effective..
look at dion Jordan in that video..what have we done to that poor kid..
kid is almost 6'7...need to line him up on offense and engage his ***, I mean for a #3 overall his rep count in low, so lets find another friggin role for him, keep him engaged and contributing. -
Then you have the option to send the outside WR deep. Tannehill can either keep or throw depending on how the defense reacts.
This is something I wouldn't want to see much of if any, but as a college look I think it would be deadly. -

Can we try Wheeler at kicker? He can't possibly be a worse kicker than he is a linebacker. Win win.

I think there is a potential gain because Tannehill is pretty close to a legit receiver. It allows you to do unconventional things and with base personnel and have him be more than just a decoy. At 6-4, 225 or so he's a big target with receiving skills that could be useful in the red zone and elsewhere.
QBs take hits already. Probably more than WRs on balance. I wouldn't expose him to crossing patterns over the middle, but the hits he'd likely get on the perimeter will probably be less than what he gets 7-10 times per game in the pocket and on read option runs. Opposing DBs are not just going to be taking cheap shots at him anymore than opposing pass rushers (who are much bigger) do. -
-
Plus I think there was a guy just like him that played WR a few years at Texas A & M if I am not mistaken.

Dion could do it. That freak could probably play any position except offensive line and probably be better than average at it. However, we know for sure that he is the only dude that can come close to covering Gronkowski one on one. Man, he covered Megatron. I wouldn't mess with that...

This staff can't figure out how to use Jordan on defense let alone as a red zone threat on offense. I mean line him up, if for nothing else to give the defense something else to think about.
-
Imagine that... they went and used Dion Jordan in the endzone today! (Remember?)
And he probably would have got a TD if the Denver defense didn't get granted a late timeout... clearly, Dion Jordan on the field confused them. He was open with the ball thrown his way.
So maybe Denver had pretty much wrested control from Miami at that point in the game, I believe--- still, it would serve well to do this again with him in the near future.
