A buddy of mine is trying to get me in as a temp Network Tech at his work place, a local community college (CC). The guy I'm hopefully replacing abruptly put in his resignation (1 week notice) to start his own consulting business and so far I'm the only candidate that has put in a resume. So, they need to find a replacement by next week, so their situation is working towards my favor.
My buddy is asking his manager for major favors to get me the temp job & his manager has major pull within the school district.
I have some issue's which I need feedback & advice on.
First, I just now realized I emailed an old resume to the CC's District Director. There is a year's worth of consulting/side jobs I left out. Now, I know why I haven't gotten any response to job's I have applied for. I'm not sure what to do. Do I admit fault if I get an interview and look incompetent or do I BS why my last job on my resume is back in 2009?
Secondly, I'm bi-polar (found out in 2009) & been off my meds for more than a month due my old meds not working & financial difficulties. If I were to get an interview, the interview will revolve around customer service (CS) skills & scenarios which I admit I'm not confident & having low self-esteem due to being bi-polar.
They will most likely ask me how I do with irate end-users & how I go about solving those issues. Only thing that comes to mind is I be patient, listen & smile while talking to them. If they become offensive, I ask them to talk to my manager & try to avoid confrontation with them.
I have been lucky & really never ran into major irate end-users blowing up on me but I have had one end-user which became offensive & I basically told him he was being offensive and I was insulted by his comment & behavior. He quickly calmed down & apologize for his behavior.
Lastly, I don't know what to say for strength's and weakness outside of tech skill. I have done some googling & they said don't mention the usual: I'm a hard-worker, dedicated, quick learner, etc...
Any feedback or advice is much appreciated. I recently had to do a last minute moved back to CA from VA and I wasted majority of my savings, which wasn't much to begin with. So, I really need this job.
thanks
