I'm probably the only fan of Joey Haynos on the board, so I'd welcome this news simply because he offers such a mismatch for a good OC to exploit.

Thought he should have hit the weight room harder as he always looked under developed, but a yr off, who knows? He best fits the T/Te role that a good running game needs and he offers some things in the WC package based on the D losing track of him when lined up as a T, but running routes like a Te.

Sure....why not? I mean we could have had Jeremy shockey......but if Joey Hanus is our next step down, it's not too bad right?

Charles Clay was drafted for the backup role and I'm excited about what he brings. Personally I'd like to see he and Haynos compete. Shockey brings negatives I could do without. I think he's a bit of fools gold.

I forgot about Charles Clay, I am excited about him. Shockey brings negatives, but he brings something Haynos doesnt......he's a good tight end.

I'd be fine with Haynos added in the group of Clay and Fasano. That's not a bad third TE or even a second TE when Clay's flexed or in the backfield. Also, the bonus of Haynos is that it keeps Mastrud and Shuler off the field. Sorry but they are not good at all IMO. I'd prefer to see Dedrick Epps on the field honestly. At least he has some potential IMO.

He also brings an aversion to blocking, a history of injury and a questionable attitude.

Remember, Shockey has two Super Bowl rings on teams where he wasn't the #1 TE. The first of which he was essentially no longer welcome in the locker room and sat alone in the owner's box.

I really feel like Clay could hit the ground running. I think they've got plans for him specifically.

I think that's a good point. Haynos' upside is that he's a good blocker, and his only real attribute in the passing game is that he's 6'8". What does he have to lose bulking up 15-20 lbs.? Can you make him into a Brandon Manumaleuna type player, essentially an offensive linemen that can motion-block and line up in the backfield?

Or wait we could have signed Jeremy Shockey to get destroyed in the run game and average less yards per catch than Anthony Fasano for 11 games a year 'cause it's all about DA U!!!!

to be fair shockey was welcome on that team, he had a broken leg during that super bowl. Shockey was also praised by coughlin as a good blocker

I def. think that Charles Clay could be used well with us, I am excited about him, the team def. has plans for him.....hope it works out. Haynos as a #3 is not as bad as him being our #2.

I think we need a #2 TE badly, but Jeremy Shockey wouldn't have been much of a solution IMO.

His blocking skills probably went the same way his receiving skills did half a dozen injuries ago.

Well, what Haynos would allow us to do is finally carry 3 "classic" Te's, Fasano is the all around Te, Clay the move Te, and Haynos the extra Tackle Te, he's never going to be Dallas Clark but 20 receptions and 3 Td's would be a huge upgrade over our #2 Te's last season, just that one little cog in the machine that the offense needs.

Last yr they were reduced to lining Feinga up at T/Te.

As for Shockey, I'd suggest folks take a look at his last 3 seasons compared to Fasano, they are mirror images of each other the only real difference being Shockey could occasionally break a long play and scored more Td's, but look at the differences in offenses they both played in.

Those 3 tds would have been a huge upgrade over our #2 wide receiver and equal to our #1 wide receiver

Exactly, he is a role player, the Pats had that sort of Te (Algie Crumpler?) to compliment their two pure receiving Te's, that is sort of Haynos's role, though Haynos is such a huge target he has more utility down around the goal line.

Don't get the hate for the skillset?

So, no response means no link to the OP quote? Or am I just supposed to telepathically read your mind as to where it came from?

One clearly has trust issues Mr C...:shifty:

Came from a Volin tweet that Rotoworld picked up so there is no link, generally speaking when I post something without a link it is from Rotoworld, but I dislike Ben Volin so heartily I refuse (as practicable) to link to anything he writes.

When Haynos was waived injured last season, no team claimed him, which means he automatically reverted back to the Dolphins IR. I believe he was there for the rest of the season, unless someone can produce a link that says he later reached an injury settlement and cut from the IR. I see him still on the official web site's roster, and also nfl.com so I'm pretty sure he is already Miami property and Volin is talking out his arse, unless someone has a link that specifically says after the season when the IR guys still under contract go back onto the off season roster, that Haynos was released at that point. I saw something that said we were going to, but never seen anything that says we did.
