Too effeminate? Since when was the Mad Hatter the paragon of masculinity?

 

Just because he doesn't reflect one extreme, doesn't mean that you have to reflect the other.

 

I guess you have a point, however, we'll have to wait to see the movie to really have a definitive conclusion on where Johnny Depp's Mad Hatter falls on the feminine/masculine scale...and whether that final point meets your approval.
