In their defense I don't think any team really condones forced dunks into an ice bath or any kind of physical based hazing. I think teams look the other way when it comes to the hair cuts or the rookies being forced to pick up tabs, etc.

Some would argue it's an important rite of passage. Some people consider it hazing, others consider it being a test of how much you really want to belong to the group and be a part of it. I'm not going to say whether it's right or wrong...because it's not my business to be honest. Nobody should be compelled to do something they ultimately do not want to do. That much I'd be willing to stand up for. But if there's peer pressure to do certain things as a rookie, and it never exceeds the level of peer pressure into something physical...I don't think it's that big of a deal.

Shawn Merriman showed that veterans have the ability stand up and make the decision that they didn't like when this happened to them as rookies and they're not going to do it to other rookies.

Watching Hard Knocks it seemed Philbin doesn't want to know about it. The scene when the player had the dick dyed in his hair, Philbin got annoyed with it but didn't address it. But since they only allow you to see what they want you really don't know how/if it was addressed. It would be a damning video in court though.

  3. Justifies all of what exactly? I still have not heard anything that I would say is terribly unfair

Nothing that happened to me during basic is something I'd consider hazing. When I arrived at my first permanent duty station, again, nothing remotely similar to hazing that I can recall either.

I haven't heard anything that defines this situation completely at all yet. Fair or unfair. Just a lot of quick assessments/judgments. Let the facts play out before labeling. That is all I ask. That goes for Martin, Incognito, Philbin, or anyone else involved.

yes...mentally weak. from what he tweeted, he acts as if he had no choice in the matter. he could have just told the vets to go to hell and pay for their own meals. what were they going to do about it...nothing.

Right because the purpose of Basic Training is not humiliation. You're just basically forced to live a very structured and controlled life and to do a lot of PT.

I've played credit card roulette. It's basically gambling. No hazing unless you lose. In that case, you hazed yourself.

I don't really know how I feel if the real problem to all of this is credit card roulette.

On one hand, I can see how incessant and frivolous spending can take a toll on an individual. That **** adds up, no matter how much you make, and can chip away some kind of feeling of financial stability.

On the other hand, don't go out to ****ing dinner? The pure randomness of credit card roulette is a disclaimer that god damn, you might be paying for this meal. How is this bullying?

Martin has free will, stand up for yourself.

There's gotta be more to this than that, and if it's a problem with the Dolphins it's a problem with 31 other teams.

No, because the only thing that has been disclosed beyond a doubt is Martin left the team for personal reasons. Everything else is speculation.

You seem to be taking this personal. This isn't an 8th grader on a school team. This is a grown man on a NFL team. You going to press for sensitivity training for Navy seals now? I'm sorry. These are Pro athletes getting paid Millions....MAN THE F UP. Look at Egnew. That kid put his head down and turned it around. He has earned everyones respect. F Martin. Stress got to him. Go get a 9-5 and a mortgage now. Fing baby. Cost us a high draft pick and a season.

    An addendum to this post:

If Martin was forced into credit card roulette on a trip to Vegas he wasn't going on, or was somehow mislead into thinking he wouldn't have to pay for a dinner or something like it and then was flipped into paying, then that is a legitimate gripe.

What does life or death have to do with making quick judgments of people's characters? If I am working for you I suppose I would need to be strong minded or I wouldn't be around for long. Otherwise, what is life or death about the fact I believe something should be properly assessed, and there is little simple about that.

Na, that's silly. NFL is full of players who leave free agency. And Jake was given a chance to resign......he declined.

I find it very odd that Richie Incognito, and Mike Pouncey for that matter, are a part of the Dolphins 2013 leadership council.

IMO both. Even if they don't find anything on Incognito, I don't think he's back next year. He is a decent player but he isn't worth the headache. Philbin must be fuming behind the scenes at this whole thing. Completely goes against what he stands for.

Need more details. I would guess Jonathan Martin is done and Ireland's second-round track record rears it's ugly head again.

I don't think Incognito gets resigned after this year, because of this and Dallas Thomas.

I just read a couple of books by Navy SEAL's and hazing is/was definitely a part of that culture.
