Kevin Coyle was praising his ability to cover the tight end and offer more versatility to the defense. Also said Jordan needs more snaps overall.
Maybe I'll finally get my wish of having Wake, Vernon and Jordan all on the field together.

a three headed monster of wake/jordan/vernon would be awesome.

Please be assured that I have no compromising pictures of Coyle from his tenure here in Cincinnati.
I was pretty geeked when he had Dion Jordan lined up where Koa Misi normally lines up in the base packages a few times yesterday. That was what I wanted from the beginning, and IMO, that lineup would allow for Jared Odrick to be on the field with Soliai and Starks to help stop the run. Having those three in front of Ellerbe and Wheeler would do a lot for this defense and it allows you to use Vernon as a rotational player. Unfortunately, there's no depth behind those three guys. Alas, I'm still dreaming.MrClean likes this. -
Sounds good to me, he blanketed gates the times he was assigned, would also like to see more reps at that middle backer position.

Did Dion Jordan in practice actually end up covering Gates? It seems like every time he lined up opposite him in space there was an audible into a run, and PFF only has him with one coverage snap.

I have to say this too, Pandarilla started a thread about putting Jordan on Gronkowski and most of us didn't take it seriously, but it seems like Jordan can cover tight ends after all.
So, good job outta you, Panda. You weirdo.Bpk likes this. -

That could easily be the case here. I wouldn't be so quick to jump to conclusions. -

Why do professional football coaches resist **** for months that dudes on a forum with non-football dayjobs can see as painfully ****ing obvious within days??

The thing of it was though, Jordan has the physical tools to matchup and anything we tried before had not been working. Think outside the box for gawd sake. When we first drafted him the first thing I thought of, was he could neutralize Gronk, not how well he could rush the passer. Having 6' DBs or 6'2 LBs try to cover Man Mountain Gronk is a study in futility. -
You look at the game Sherman called this past Sunday. If he was doing that all year long, there would be a lot less griping on these boards. There has to be a reason why he didn't and I doubt he'll just come out and tell us.HULKFish likes this. -

Real issue is, he can cover as well, do you use him in that role to much, or do you mix it in?
Would love a .gif of Dio going from DE to MLB and Rivers reaction...he freaked out -
Perhaps another way to use him this coming week is to do some spying on Newton. He may have the best set of physical tools to do this too.

I think he could be the ultimate spy clean! lining up in the middle of the field! and just letting him showcase his remarkable range going north south east and west???this is a sideline to sideline player! this is a player that can back pedal! flip his hips and run like a deer! this is a player that was born in the athletic position, his coordination, explosive and size, makes me not understand why a coach would not want to use him exactly the way were describing..now, as much as we have been heeling at Coyle to see him thru a different lense he's actually doing the things we believe that allows him to use that skillset, we've seen him running with tight ends 40 yards down the field, I've seen bump and run coverage, I've seen him spy as that middle backer ( my favorite) and we've seen him rush...
Just keep it up Coyle, give him a little bit more each week and I'll be happy.. I want to see him on early downs, and I think he should get twice as many reps this week against a phenominal athlete in newton...spy him Clean know what I'm sayin?, I mean one thing I do have confidence in is this, no matter who's on the field when we play an opponent, if Dion is on the field with them, we have the best athlete on the field..so lets go athlete on athlete baby, cause that's what newton is, an athlete playing Qb, and until Jordan refines his instincts and masters the scheme, he's the best athlete playing defense, so lets put him at a spot where we take advantage of the athleticism without sacrificing too much on the mental side..spy.MrClean likes this. -
I'm so glad they might do this a week before Thanksgiving...
Instead of against the Bills, Ravens, Bucs, Patriots where even the smallest adjustment might have made enough of a difference in a tight down-to-the-wire loss, where one win would porbably make a huge difference come December when we're looking back at the season saying "what If". -
