The creator of Buffy, Angel, and Firefly has a new show debuting this Friday night @ 8pm CT on Fox (it follows The Sarah Connor Chronicles). It stars the lovely Eliza Dushku, who helped Joss accidently create the show.

Here is the basic premise via Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dollhouse_(TV_series)
Honestly, I'm not completely sold on the premise. But then again, I was far from sold on Buffy or Angel until I gave them a fair shot. And they are two of my favorite shows ever. Luckily I'm aware of this show, unlike with Firefly. So I'm giving it at least a season just based on Joss' past achievements. And if its anywhere near as good as his other shows I'll fight to have Fox not screw it over like they did Firefly.
So if you're a fan of Joss' I definitely recommend that you check out the series premier this Friday. And even if you have never seen any of Joss' work give it a shot. You'll at least get to watch Eliza Dushku for an hour.

And still, every day I wonder why a network starved for original programming like Sci-Fi can't fund a couple new seasons of Firefly.
Sorry, I tried to help myself...:blush:Uncle Rico, The Rev and DevilFin13 like this. -
Nothing about the things surrounding Firefly make any sense. I watched Buffy until it ended. I'm sure I was watching some show on Fox around the time Firefly was on air. Yet I don't recall a single advertisement for it. All they had to do was say "Joss Whedon created this" and I'm there.
So frustrating. Thanks for trying though. -
Not sure about the premise of this show but I will certainly give it a chance.NaboCane and DevilFin13 like this. -
I'm looking forward to this show. I hope it is good, at least if anything we'll get to see Eliza Dushku for a few weeks.

Anyone catch the premier? I thought it was ok. Its hard to judge because he has to introduce everything and set it all up. I share the cautious optimism most critics seemed to have. I just hope it doesn't take too long for things to get rolling.
And as expected, Eliza Dushku was amazingly gorgeous. The white dress she wears at the beginning  -
It was alright not sure how the ratings were. I'll keep watching it, looks pretty cool.

It pulled in something like 4.7 million viewers. It got more than Terminator. Whatever crap ABC and CBS beat it out. I think it won the 18-40 male demographic.
-
A show is always built on its characters, and how/how much the audience identifies and empathizes with the main ones; I don't know how much an audience can identify with a core character about whom we know so little, and additionally who changes personalities every week.
A lot of it is going to be built around Dushku; her likability, and - let's face it - her beauty.
Let's see if that's enough.
And yeah - you saw the interlude ads with Summer Glau - they're going for the male demo, no doubt about it. -

This guy asked Eliza about the creepy naked guy. She didn't answer because she said it would ruin everything. And he says in the next episode we get some backstory on Echo's handler. -
Well it didn't have great ratings and if they lose anymore its going to be 1 and done. Terminator SCC looks like its going to get canned.
-
Just finished the second episode. I thought it was pretty good. It doesn't feel like a Whedon show yet. The dialogue isn't quite up to par and there isn't much humor. But I think it showed some potential.

I just watched it on hulu. I thought it was better than ep. 1. And the story behind Alpha could get interesting. And then her hitting her shoulder right at the end, left me waiting for this week's episode. 2 for 2, imo so far.

It was a solid episode. I really wanted her to smack that dick towards the end mocking her. I hope she kicks his ***.

What did you guys think of the 3rd episode? I thought it wasn't bad. We are slowly building into something that could be good.

Horrible. Absolutely ****ing horrible. What a goddamn waste of an hour.
The show was over 40 minutes in, but it just kept going. And going.
Add to that the fact that I'd rather have been nailed to a cross than sit through that music, and it was hellish.
The characters are NOT developing - not even in the tiniest increments.
The Sierra character is insipid, annoying and makes me want her off the screen whenever she's on; the Lawrence Dominic character is two-dimensional to a painful degree; the Boyd Langston character is the standard cliched, burnout ex-cop straight out of any boilerplate mystery novel.
And the genius doctor guy is a big FAIL as the "Wash" character on the show.
Finally, what the HELL is up with EVERYONE in that house hating Echo for no apparent reason?!
Everyone is so ****ing hostile to her; I mean, men in real life just DON'T act that way toward hot young girls - never happens.
But every male in the series except for Langston and the doc is inexplicably horrible to her on sight.
Either explain it already, or give it up!
Awful; the show went from interesting to maddeningly annoying; it gets one more week and if it doesn't improve it comes off the tivo.BuckeyeKing, Celtkin and DevilFin13 like this. -
I am actually finding it more compelling by the week. Although I will grant you, the music was annoying.
Gotta find the freedom, that's what I need ...NJFINSFAN1, NaboCane and Celtkin like this. -
I agree with Joe. Josh Weldon is on drugs and this series sucks *** but I appreciate Steve's opinion but I think she is becoming self-aware way too soon and the story line is thin. Frankly, I think that Steve could write a more coherent plot.

NaboCane has some good points. I wasn't annoyed with it like he was. But it certainly has its flaws. I guess I'm just banking on Whedon having a plan and having the ability to carry it out. Though I guess that assumes the plan is good, which at this point may be too early to tell.

Agreed worst episode yet. As slow as the show was its slowly unraveling Echo. Its setting up but I felt that episode was a killer very long and drawn out I was starting to fall asleep.
-
It was okay, the worst of the 3. Its a story that has been told in all shows from CSI to Miami Vice.
I still like the show, she is very Jessica Alba like in Dark Angel. -
Just a few things in defense of the episode, some of the more plot-specific points of which I'll wrap in spoiler tags.
It does feel like Echo's self-awareness is moving a bit too quickly. I wonder if this is a concession to the reality that shows today are far too often canceled after a season or less, and they wanted to move the overall arc forward.
That said, I love the concept of someone being under cover without realizing they have a cover. I have not gotten tired of this dynamic yet.
I found the element of a pop star that had not only received a death threat, butwas actually courting that threat
I found the reveal ofVictor as an active to be ENTIRELY unexpected. I love the fact that TPTB at Dollhouse are throwing the FBI guy off by having an active pose as an informant. Very clever.
I appreciated Echo's thinking outside the box as exhibitedsaving Rayna's life by making her want to live again.
I also liked the bookend detail ofhaving Echo catch Sierra as she was about to pass out at the Dollhouse and again at the end on the catwalk.
I see the doctor character can be viewed as a pale Wash substitute. That said, he's more of an a-hole than Wash ever was, so I am judging him independently.
Also, I think it's clear a lot of people distrust Echo because she was left unscathed by Alpha.
In short, the premise alone has kept me coming back, and the execution of said premise, while uneven, has been inspired at times.FinsPensFan, Celtkin, DevilFin13 and 2 others like this. -

I can't believe The Ghost Whisperer is the top rated show on Friday nights. If you want to look at Jennifer Love Hewitt's boobs there are probably thousands of pics on the internet. Why waste an hour of your life watching them on a crappy tv show? -
I live in the UK and Dollhouse has not been shown here yet. . but thanks to these boards I discovered it and watched the opening 2 shows via the net. . yet to see the 3rd. .
I loved this show. . I think it's great. . the idea is fantastic although I am not sold on the 'handler' cop. . sterotypica. .l but then all cops are in any show. . drives me mad. . and the guy who (forgot his name) does the downloading and uploading of their personas is weak but other than that. . all good. .DevilFin13 likes this.
