Hopefully, Thomas works out. If he does, then he's in line for an extension a year from now. If not, he's basically on a one year contract with a one year team option for 2018. Since he has no guaranteed money after 2017, he could be cut with no dead money.danmarino likes this.

frustrating if he doesn't work out. we need some consistency in vital places like this for a string of seasons.

Its frustrating if ANY player doesn't work out, but you can't fix every position all at once. Gase and Grier have only had two offseasons to get their system and players in place.
We have good players who are fairly young in place on offense at QB, RB, at least 3 WR and LT. RT is solid, and we may have a good find at LG with Asiata, we just don't know yet. Thats a heck of a start. If Thomas isn't good, then we look for a new TE next season. Its ok. -
