Can’t be any worse than Tim Dobbins or Micah Johnson.

Tim Dobbins’ failures shone brightly against the Jets, and Johnson wasn’t even good enough to depose Dobbins.

Has Johnson seen a single defensive snap since the season began?

Defensive snap? Not that I know of, but he had a special teams tackle against the Bills. He was shuffled onto the practice squad a couple of weeks ago.

I’d rather sign Kawika Mitchell than promote Johnson. Heck, it’s telling that we got a roster exemption for McDaniel’s suspension, and we promoted Ray Feinga instead of Micah Johnson.

Who, Mitchell? If he reached an injury settlement with the Bills, it means he’s either ready to go or close enough to it that he’s worth signing anyway.

I thought Mitchell was more than weak outside linebacker sort?

But we are discussing inside guys in this thread, can Mitchell play in the middle?

I kinda like what Micah Johnson brings to the table.

Can’t be any worse than Micah Johnson. Johnson is only good against the run, and only runs forward. His one dimension is one dimensional. That’s not exactly game day material.

You know what also blows? Not having Channing Crowder available to maintain defensive cohesion. And after watching Dustin Keller pull a Fake Dallas Clark on us, I’m not exactly opposed to throwing stuff against the wall and hoping something sticks.

Dobbins is a liability against the pass. Guess what? Our schedule is full of good passing teams. Just over the next four weeks we play the Patriots, Packers, and Steelers. I don’t want to go into those games with Tim effing Dobbins holding down the fort against Aaron Hernandez, Jermichael Finley, and Heath Miller. No thanks.

I'm hoping as Dobbins ankle gets better that he gets better. Dobbins was never this bad in San Diego.

I think Mendenhall is pretty one-dimensional. I’m more worried about Roethlisberger.

whoa, since when was Crowder good in pass coverage against tight ends?

we're making it sound like since Crowder is out, and probably headed to IR, that we suddenly have this problem. but we would have the same issue if he was healthy.

imo, this is what we drafted Edds for, and what we recently signed Bobby Carpenter for. It's the run thumping ability that we're missing without Crowder and that's what Micah Johnson seems to excel at.

Aside from AP & CJ, Mendenhall is the best RB we will face all the regular season.

There’s a marked difference between the Miami Dolphins defense with Channing Crowder, and the Miami Dolphins defense without Channing Crowder.

Watch Texans @ Dolphins from last year to see what I mean.

Disagreed. We face Ray Rice, Cedric Benson, Darren McFadden, and Jahvid Best this year. They’re all better than Mendenhall in my view.

...If the Bills cut a guy because he's not good enough then he's probably more UFL material.

Mind you, this is a team willing to start Akin Ayodele even after the season he had in Miami last year. Having seen the tape of his pursuit and tackling ability and said "Yep, that's our guy; get him here; get him paid"

I agree wholeheartedly with that statement, but we have also been giving tight ends career games for a while.

Ideally I'd like to just put Sean Smith straight man on the tight end for the passing situations. The New England game seems like an appropriate time to try something like that since their run game is, at best, opportunistic. I think the gameplan against the Pats is to stop the pass first.

That had more to do with Akin Ayodele and Gibril Wilson. Dobbins did his best Ayodele impression and Bell didn’t need to imitate Wilson, he stinks against the pass all on his own.

But Crowder maybe disrupts the TE’s route or calls out a position change that makes things tougher for the other team.

We tried that against the Jets.

Sorry, not a fan of Crowder. But, if I need a Lb who rarely meets a runner in the hole and is real good at tackling a guy downfield from where he should have been tackled, he'll be the first guy on my list. Oh yeah, he stinks in coverage. There is a reason there was ZERO interest in this guy in free agency. He's just a guy.

Dude...have you been watching the Steelers at all this year? Mendenhall is tearing it up and carrying them. Wait until Big Ben gets back...Mendy is going to terrorize.

I wouldnt be opposed to the move even if he is a little nicked up. I worry about his size in a 3-4, he was having some trouble in Buffalo's 3-4 but he is a good player. The Giants have had an eternal hole at his vacated OLB spot since he departed after the 2007 SB win.

Here is the only problem I see: In a 3-4 your ILB's have to be able to take on guards and Mitchell is a bit smaller then I'd like. I worry about him vs better guards such as a Andy Levitre (Buffalo) or the generally reliable Brandon Moore on New York. Crowder can stack and shed and his frame and strength allows him to do so. Mitchell's greatest asset is his speed and that is somewhat negated moving inside in a 3-4. Im not sure how great a fit it is but its definitely a talent upgrade so it may be worth a whirl.

With Crowder back, I think he can take on some of the LOS duties that Dansby has, and let Dansby into coverage a little more often.

If his greatest asset is his speed, give him coverage responsibility 7/10 of the time and let Dansby play the run most of the time. Now, if a team goes heavy run on us, or it's obvious run situations, rotate Micah Johnson in (gotta call him up forst, of course).

None of this will be one this week. Sparano wouldn;t add a player this late, without having them practice for the Pats. Changes will happen over the bye week, if at all.

Got it. Every failure to this point has been because somebody ELSE sucks besides Crowder?

What about befor Girbil and A-Dell got here? Crowder still SUCKED then. Who's fault was it then?....just asking
