Per Tim Graham's AFC East Blog:
Herein is a case of football NOT being a purely stats driven enterprise, we all watched Akin A all season, he sucked...and sucked..hard...a corpse would have been more effective than Akin A...yet there is Joyner saying otherwise..
Joyner is missing the point of Ayodele being utterly helpless when it came to coverage...he was...just...too...sloooowwww...

Hopefully someone will show that article to Karlos Dansby.
Some great motivation right there.dolfan7171 and Bpk like this. -
It's not moronic, and his numbers could be completely right.
But his metric is essentially measuring stacking and shedding blockers. Not plays the defender is not blocked, not coverage, not blitzing, etc.
Ayodele didn't lose his job because he couldn't stack and shed, either.dolfan7171, Bpk, gunn34 and 8 others like this. -
And Joyner misses the point. Miami runs a 3-4, not a 4-3. Stopping the run is going to be Crowder's job and when Nolan lets the leash off him he's going to be good at it. While stopping the run will be supplementary on running downs, Dansby's primary focus will be defending short zones in pass situations.

Was he an idiot when he said Randy Starks was one of the league's best players against the run in 2008? He was all about Starks as a player overall.
The point here is that, like padre said, stats aren't everything. Joyner is known as the Football Scientist and believes in his work. Paul Zimmerman loves him.
Joyner's view has a place. Obviously isn't not always going to be correct, just like anything else. We don't know what else he said (I don't have Insider). And this appears to be about the run game only. We will find out in 6 months.
Personally, I think the play Dansby made to end the wildcard game is something we haven't seen from the inside linebacker position in two seasons.dolfan7171, Bpk, Nomina #76 and 6 others like this. -
From KC Joyners blog:
After all of these years, Bill Belichick still has the best grasp of operating a football team.
Jake Delhomme has been the target of fan frustration, but he’s still one of the best quarterbacks in the league.
Why This Comeback Is a Mistake for Vikings and Favre
Four non-Jay-Cutler-based reasons Chicago Bears fans should be looking forward to the coming season.
Given his track record, i'm glad he's against Dansby signing as opposed to for it :up:dolfan7171, finyank13, fins1 and 6 others like this. -

Oh, OK, KC. Our inside linebackers grade at the bottom of the NFL. No one with eyes to see disputes that. Ayodele makes 71 tackles last season and Crowder 52. Total of 122. Dansby makes 109 tackles, only 13 less than our two inside linebackers COMBINED. On top of that, he has four passes defended and one pick, one more pass defended and the same number of picks as both our inside linebackers combined (Ayodele, by the way, has zero passes defended). RealScouts ranks Dansby at no. 3 of NFL inside linebackers, ahead of Ray Lewis at #4, while neither Ayodele nor Crowder are even in the the top 20. On top of that, Dansby can line up outside or inside, and draws interest from multiple teams. What drugs is KC on?

HERE ARE A FEW STATS JOYNER CAN CHOKE ON
The past 3 seasons
Dansby tackles...335
Akin tackles.......203
Dansby sacks...8.5
Akin sacks.......0
Dansby passes defended...17
Akin passes defended.......8
Dansby interceptions...6
Akin interceptions.......0
Dansby forced fumbles...7
Akin forced fumbles.......1
and last season Akin tied for the team lead with 10 missed tackles while Dansby had 5
I'm not a so called football expert like Joyner but I know that Dansby is by far the better football player and the better playmaker...something this defense needsdolfan7171, jazz, phineas64 and 14 others like this. -

Book-smart and life-stupid, like most people who argue with stats as opposed to what really happens on the field.sws84 and Frumundah Finnatic like this. -

Wow this Joyner guy has to be as intelligent as a pet rock! Has he watch these 2 play football to form this view point? Hey K.C. Here is a quick break down for you! Akin stinks covering anyone besides a tackle eligible! He is so slow a yell at the TV Akin drop the anchor and run! Karlos is a great in defending the pass! So great infact he is actually 1 of only 7 Brett Farve int this year!

What he did in Arizona is independent of what he'll do in Miami. Crowder has always been the banger, while Ayodele's proported job was to assist in coverage. Ergo, Dansby's job will be to assist in coverage. Which isn't to say he won't get tackles, he will and in handfuls, but his impact is going to be in coverage. -
Very little to indicate that Dansby is an upgrade over Ayodele huh?
Im shocked that anyone would dare to make that statement
seems to me like a jab toward our front office
Thats okay we shouldnt take too much offense to this ridiculous opinion
We know what we had and now we know what we have
No brainer:up:dolfan7171, zachblitz54, miamiron and 1 other person like this. -

Thing about Channing C's numbers, he did miss games with injuries and Soliai, I suspect, was no great shakes as a NT.
As for Akin A v Dansby...gosh..who wants to bring Akin Ayodele back, no one has signed him yet, there is still time... -
-
I'll bite anyway and say I'm not against the idea
Ireland spoke before last season about how much they loved Akin's veteran leadership
Not a terrible option but I'd be surprised if it happens -
-
Akin A sucked Killa P, I'd prefer JD Folsom have a shot over Akin A.
Granted, he was not the villian that Gibril Wilson was on defense, he was simply outmanned.. -
channing will be exposed often like usual unfortunately -
-
I'm sure Nolan is aware of that and will scheme around Crowder's weaknesses. If Finheaven were up right now, I'd link you to ckparrothead's analysis of Nolan's defensive tendencies in Denver. The big change is going to come from the fact that Nolan prefers a 2-4-5 alignment in nickel situations, as opposed to Pasqualoni's preference for a 4-2-5 alignment, and that there are certain definitive tendencies for each linebacker position in base in nickel sets.
EDIT: Actually, I found the article on David Hyde's blog. Here you go:

Too bad KC is not running the show in Miami, he obviously knows more about NFL talent than Bill Parcells...........NOT!
-
I dont mind Joyner but WOW he is off by a miles on this one.
-
Necessary evil until you can actual upgrade at the position which to me is still a need. Maybe not the biggest but still something to consider. I have no faith in the CC to make plays or even a difference
That is still a problem IMO -
-
I bet Parcells and Co. are trying to find Joyner's phone number as we speak. They need to sign him up right away. Its obvious he knows more about what it takes to be a good player then they do. Its a shame they didn't call this guy before they spent money on Dansby. Maybe they need to discuss the draft with him next.
What a Bozo. Of course everybody has a right to an opinion and thats just his and apparently a lot of people disagree with his. -
Who knew a 290 pd man could disappear so astonishingly? -
:loser: Wow, he is way off on this one.
