Keep Garner at Center and move Pouncey?

I know I am going to get flamed for this but here it goes.
First, the Chargers have a bad defense. That makes our offense look a lot better.
Second, I have never though Pouncey was as good as people keep saying. I keep hearing people say is elite but as a season ticket holder who gets a good look at him in every game I don't see him as blowing anyone off the ball and he seems a little undersized for the O-line.
He may be great a pulling but Garner, who is not a great lineman, was pushing that NT and the DT's back on some plays.
    Also,
If Pouncey's best position is center you keep him there. Why would you make more positions weak? cut down on the holes in your line first.
I also noticed nobody is talking about how good McKinney is playing.

Whilst we are talking O-Line I want to say how well Sam Brenner played. The kid was shoed in from nowhere. Did decent. Didn't light it up but he was a positive. He was on a hiding to nothing.

What we saw yesterday was fresh legs.

And we still gave up our season average for sacks.

I don't know about having a 6-7 center. Seems to tall to me.

That was his so called problem coming out of college, which I thought was over-blown. He only had a few mis snaps and I think a lot of people made a bigger deal out of it than what it really was. I don't know where your getting that from now though? I haven't noticed him making any bad shotgun snaps since he has become a dolphin.

He was generally thought of as durable and reliable before the draft. Had sleeper status.

Pouncey at G would do wonders for our running game.He has great mobility and can block downfield. He played G while his twin brother played C at Florida and together they were awesome.

I would not be nervous of the switch if the coaches felt it would help the team. However I would be nervous in reference as to whom would replace him at C.:pointlol:

1 was on Thomas, other THill ran out of bounds behind the LoS

His time to throw however seemed much better

so, its not really important and it means nothing but....how is that sack? What kind of rule is that? Shouldn't it be just a negative rushing attempt for tannehill? odd rule. Does someone ont he chargers get credited that sack?

    :dunno:

Like why does a pick 6 count against the Defense and not get subtracted from the offenses scoring totals?

This is why bulk stats are not particularly useful

FWIW, THill's "Sack" was the only one they gave up in the 4th qtr, and for once it did not seem that he was pressured as soon as the ball was snapped

If he ran out of bounds without being touched behind the LOs, it isn't a sack..

Three of the top four rushing attacks in terms of yards per carry are zone blocking schemes.

Great, they also have the personnel to run it, we do not.

Do note, aside from the "Tackle blocks Cb on screen" nonsense, that damnable scheme was largely kept on the shelf v SD

Hopefully that continues if we want to win ball games

What's interesting is our last 2 games without Martin and Cogs, we are below our season average for hurries and hits. We average 4 sacks, 7.5 hurries and 2.6 hits. The last 2 games we've averaged 4 sacks, 5 hurries and 0.5 hits.

Clabo has also been positive 3 weeks in a row.

Exactly Brother, for all of the "they lost 2 starting offensive linemen!"

Reality is, both were crappy offensive linemen, I've heard it said a shopping cart would block better, it is soo true

A part of it, actually most of it, is the Zone scheme and Sherman refusing to alter his play calling due to poor fits on the OL, that has changed with different offensive linemen

DTRain did not suddenly become a good Rb, what happened was the scheme was better suited to what we had, not what they wanted to have on the offensive line.

That let Thomas just put his head down and hit the hole and have success

I didn't say we did or didn't have the personnel for it. I was only objecting to "the league has figured it out." statement. The execution of a screen pass, however, has nothing to do with a zone blocking scheme, so I'm not sure what you're referring to there.

I still do, top 4 teams, Eagles are 6-5 and Seattle, other two teams in top 4 in rushing DC and Oak are not having good years.

I'm talking specifically yards per carry. Not everyone rushes the ball the same number of times so yards per carry is a better indicator of how well someone runs the ball, not raw totals.

I'm also not sure what team record has to do with anything. Rushing attempts only account for 40% of the offense and none of the defense or special teams. I'm not sure what kind of correlation you're expecting to find but it's certainly, at best, a very weak one.

Garner had one decent week, Pouncey is one of the best 3 centers in the league.

This is internet "what I saw last is the best thing ever" rubbish.

I'd rather see Brenner stay at LG and Garner move to RG

I totally agree. Pouncey at either guard, and you're looking at another Guy McIntyre at least, and maybe another Randall McDaniel. Garner is probably best suited for C because it masks his lack of lateral agility the best and plays to his straight ahead power. Like Brenner said after the game, Garner didn't miss a line call the entire game and as the new guy it helped him a lot.

Sam Brenner, a UDFA out of Utah. We signed him after the draft, he went through camp with us, got a lot of 2nd team OL time in preseason, and was cut on the final cutdown to 53 and resigned to the PS. IIRC. He was very versatile at Utah, was their best OL and even played some LT there with that squatty body and short arms.

I believe Jamon Meredith played quite well in Tampa filling in for Carl Nicks at guard. He could an inexpensive option.

How 'bout an Oline overhaul with Albert-Pouncey-Mack-Meredith-Oher. lol.

That would mean 2 very big UFA deals, for Albert and Mack, and a fairly substantial one for Oher. Not doable from a cap standpoint IMO.

You guys are putting way to much credit to a game against a really bad defense.
Pouncey is best at center. You don't move a guy who is at his best to another position.
That would just be creating a hole where there wasn't one
