I thought this was an either or thing. If this GM League is still going to run as usual, I may be interested in the Keeper League. I thought we were talking about replacing the current GM League.
I think the hardest and most time consuming part would be the first year and setting that up. You've got to fill out a 53 man roster. And so these are just questions off the top of my head as it pertains to the initial setup: 1. Do you have a 53 man draft first, then a college draft, then a period of trades? I think it would be easier to just have a 53 man draft the first season. No trades. No college draft. Just include the college players within the framework of the 53 man draft pool this first year. It would also make for interesting conversation how quickly some of these college players get drafted, like an Andrew Luck. 2. What should be the timing of all this vs the GML here? Given how long this keeper league will take to compile a full draft, I would imagine it would run smoother if we held the draft after the conclusion of this GML. Just for this year only. maybe start at the end of April, after the real NFL draft? You'll essentially have May thru July to get the thing setup. 3. What about a possible alternative to a 53 man draft? To vary the teams and not make the salaries the same the first year, how about a 28 man draft and then a free agency bid process to fill out the remaining 25 players? I'm not sure I like this, just trying to throw the monkey in the wrench thing... 4. As far as contracts go, if we go with a 53 man draft, will there be different contract lengths inherent with each road? GIK says the max is six years. Should we randomly assign years of each contract to each round. Something like Round 1 = 6 years, Round 2 = 5 years, Round 3 = 4 years, Round 4 = 3 years, Round 5 backup to 6 years and so on and so forth? This might put a little extra strategy into what round you are drafting certain positions. I mean you wouldn't want all of your starters at a certain position drafted with the same contract term. 5. Determining that winning bid in free agency is as simple as the most money wins? I don't think so. You could have Team A offering a 1 year contract of $10m. Team B offers a 2 year $20m deal. Team C offers a 5 year $40m deal. So team C wins because there's is the most money? But it's only $8m per season (on average). Teams A and B are offering a better average but shorter contract than C. They also have the same average at $10m per season. How do you pick a winner here? More questions than answers at the moment Of course if you just go back and read what GIK says again, most money wins, then I guess that settles that And thats where the "guaranteed' portion of the contract comes into play. If you trade or release a player that you've thrown a lot of money into, you're ****ed. eh... just some random talking points.
This is just an idea, but for future college drafts maybe we should play the season out on Madden (at the end of the actual NFL season where players have been updated to close to how good they really are that year) and the standing of that should determine draft order. Just my 2 cents.
I think one of the obstacles will be doling out the teams. I have a feeling everyone will want to be the Dolphins.
I think you would have all new teams, in perhaps all new cities. I mean I'd want Los Angeles. You should submit your list of cities you want and then you can name the city you get. In fact, one of the rules should be you can't have an existing NFL team/name as your team. This is as if the NFL ceased to exist is what I'm thinking.
I think that's the way we're headed. I'm not familiar with Madden. I don't think there's a fantasy / legacy mode right?
There is. Though the focus shouldn't be on a madden sim, otherwise why not just do a madden league... which would be bad since those things fizzle within two weeks being simmed.
If there is a guaranteed 32 teams, make them NFL teams. If there is something like 24 teams, then we're looking at NFL cities but in a world where a lot of contraction has happened or the NFL is on strike and we're like a CFL/USFL and we have dibs on the NFL players. But yes we can sim each year with the new version of madden.
For Madden purposes you could just assign them an NFL team. It doesn't really matter what they're called on Madden as long as the person doing the sim knows which team is being represented by which NFL team. It will be with fantasy rosters anyway though so it shouldn't matter.
What if we reduced it to 25-30% for trades so we could occasionally enjoy them and have a little more to look forward to just without them being excessive?
It kinda skews things though. because only 16 teams will be in the fantasy draft so the other teams will all be bad as they get the scraps.
As far as the Madden sim goes... without 32 teams each season, we can't do it. I can't add or delete franchises in the franchise mode. With the highest contract bidding process, I really don't know a better way to do it...
Yeah. I don't think it's worth doing with 16 teams though. Every team will be an all star team. The draft will be meaningless after the first couple rounds.
Yeah every team is going to have a very similar roster maybe each team will have 1 weakness at a position but overall their going to look the same. If this goes forward I think you have to use existing salaries or have the committee place salaries on every player to avoid this.
Every team may have a similar roster to start off with... but whose to say someone doesn't fall off the cliff. Someone last year would have offered Manning a big contract and look what may happen to him now? They'd be forced to go with him because it would be costly towards the cap to get rid of him. Again, I doubt 16 teams would be the amount. I think it would be closer to 24 teams...
I messaged Muck and he said it was fine to have the Keeper GM league on The Phins. If anyone wants to be on the Committee please send me a pm and let me know. I would like at least 5 ppl but there could be more than that.
24 teams would be good I still think Salaries have to be predetermined. Maybe position round salary based.
It's not that I hate your site its just that I love thephins. Everyone already comes here and thought it would just be easier.
I'd be interested in this, possibly, depending on the time sink involved. I'm also available if anyone wants my suggestions / feedback on anything.
Ha, no, I know. It'd make life a lot easier. GIK's big worry was that Muck wouldn't like the bandwidth being eaten up, so he was thinking of starting a new place for just this, and I told him mine was fine since it's already up and running. The fact that Muck's okay means things are covered.
So we are at 17. Hoping that we can get at least 24 to start this. Again the committee is a big. We do need volunteers. There is going to be some hard work but I am sure it will be fun. Send PM's thanks
