Kiper gives Dolphins worst AFC East grade http://espn.go.com/blog/afceast/post/_/id/13178/kiper-gives-dolphins-worst-afc-east-grade you would think he would consider the marshall trade in his grade
Im starting to pay less attention to what Kiper says over the past few years. I just get the feeling he over analizes things and end up being wrong sometimes.
I do believe this draft was a tad too LB heavy (and this is coming from a guy who believes that the LB position has been starved for a long while now). I think we could have picked up a FS along the way (though if we pick up Sharper or Atogwe....)
This is why Kiper is on tv and not in an actual draft war room for a team. I can't stand Kiper, in my view he is completely overrated and full of himself.
He only rates it based on the guys that are picked. I cant really disagree with him to much personally, though hopefully he is proven wrong in the end. Remember, its only a projection based on his own pre draft player analysis. No point in getting worked up.
Personally don't see how Jerry, Edds, or Jones could be reaches. After that who cares if you "reach" in the 7th.
the bills had the worst draft in the afc east. the patriots had the best. the jets got more bang for thier buck with the few picks they had. we are either 2nd or 3rd depending on how you rank the jets and dolphins drafts
I agree. We needed a TE...should have taken one in the 4th. We needed a KR....could have taken Brandon James in the 7th. Needed a RB...still haven't gotten on in the draft or UDFA. Ronnie in the last year...Ricky retiring...Cobbs is coming off a very bad injury. We have holes and needs at RB. This should have been addressed. I think drafting 2 LB'ers and getting one via trade was more than enough and then we could have filled in the other slots. We didn't get 1 skill position in this draft...AND MARSHALL DOESN'T COUNT!
You may not want to hear it, but I think he's about right. I would grade it a C, but it's a draft full of roleplayers, many of them drafted higher than they needed to be, without any standouts that you could reasonably say are likely to become stars. This was a draft deep with talent and we didn't really avail ourselves of it.
By the way, it's nice that he says he has to include how the Pats set themselves up for the 2011 draft (by getting an extra 2nd) in his evaluation of them this year, but then doesn't want to include Brandon Marshall in his evaluation for us.
Same guy that said "Talk to me when they are casting the bust for Mike Williams in the Hall Of Fame"...he knows a little but he is Off almost as much as he is on...and he doesnt care for Parcells because he is a "cottage industry guru" that Bill P has no respect for.
Ireland was asked about "skill position" players being at the Rookie minicamp and apparently Tristan Davis, Julius Pruitt and Tauras Johnson all will attend. As for Kiper, IIRC, he has not given Ireland draft a good grade since he has been here, why should we care now what he thinks?
I have never like Kiper. In fact I can't stand him. He said the Bills had a better draft than us!? Enough said. I know our picks suprised a lot of people, but Parcells warned us of this prior to the draft. I trust Tuna...A LOT more than I trust Kiper and I think I speak for everyone when I say that...Parcells is the man and Kiper is a nobody. I am very satisfied with our picks and I know our FO drafted them for a reason. I am sure they will work well in Nolan's hybrid defense. I also think we drafted better than the Jets IMO. All they did was stack up positions that they were loaded at instead of filling the holes on their team. Let's just wait until the season starts before we decide who drafted better.
He gave us a c- last year too... http://blogs.palmbeachpost.com/thed...kiper-jrs-grades-are-in-dolphins-get-c-minus/
No point in trying to grade a draft right after it...if teams drafted for a grade I'm sure we could have done better. I will give my opinion though. This draft is a "solid yet unspectacular" one. I see a lot of solid players who can contribute, but no-one who stands out as a real game changer. Now obviously they will all be given the chance to prove me wrong. In the end I think these are guys you surround your stars with, not guys you build your team around. Which is fine with me.
The thing to keep in mind about Mel Kiper is that he has absolutely no idea about what NFL teams need and what condition they're in. To him they're just names on a list arranged in a certain order with funny little logos off to one side of the page. He doesn't care about whether a team patches its holes, he cares about whether or not one prospect is better than another. So when he says that he likes CJ Spiller to Buffalo, he's commenting on the prospect being selected at ninth overall, not the fact that the last thing Buffalo needed at #9 was a running back. Had Buffalo selected an OT there, he'd have criticized them for not getting a value pick, despite the fact that Buffalo's OL is probably the worst in the NFL. Mel Kiper can be safely ignored. For all your draft analysis, tune in to Mike Mayock and Charlie Casserly. Bonus: they actually have a clue about NFL team needs and so are in a better position to evaluate how a player might or might not work for a team. Double bonus: Mayock will not insult a team for a draft pick that makes his board or projections look bad.
I rated as a B- I think C- is pretty harsh. Picking 4 LB's when we added Dansby and Dobbins had me scratching my head too....
Kipers been at this for awhile...I think he semi knows what he's talking about. I agree that we didnt really make the impact we could have in a very deep draft.
I'd say that's fairly accurate... And minus Marshall, I'd give this draft a C, maybe C+ just on initial judgment..could be a surprise or two among them, who knows... I like the Odrick pick and the direction Nolan is going with this defense.....not real thrilled with Misi. Was he really worth passing on the chance to line Golden Tate out opposite of Brandon Marshall? Not really hating on this draft, it just looks a little boring, I guess. But that's subject to change if we luck out on a gem or two..
I dont understand why people even listen to him. How can he comment on who is good/bad when they havent even taken the professional field yet? I remember Joe Montana was a THIRD ROUNDER and Tedd Ginn was a FIRST ROUNDER......so case in point, you dont know till you know......
Heh Dukes on NFLN just evaluated our draft and he never has anything good to say about us and he really liked our draft. Guy's I love Mayock, hes by far the best "tv" draft analyzer and still I would take our FO and their ability to evaluate talent over him. much less that clown Kiper.
Lets just look at it like this, now our draft picks that Kiper is hating on them. More to prove it to him that they are better than what he thinks!
Accurate as it may/or may not have been at the time we walked away with two very good starting CB's both of which look to be special. A Very good Receiver in the 4th and hearing Camarillo the other day on WQAM absolutly rave about Turner I still consider that a pretty good draft. List if GM's wanted to win Mells grades this time of year they wouldn't even need to hire a scouting staff. All they would need to do is subscribe to the inside and follow Mels chart and they would get an A. There is a good reason teams DON'T do that.
Drafting Tate would force the FO to release/trade another receiver on our team. Marshall- No, for obvious reasons. Bess- Has been really solid the last 2 years, and should get better with Marshall. Hartline- Had a really good rookie year. Camarillo- Veteran, best hands on our team, good player Turner- Ireland will not let him go after one year Really, there was no point in drafting Tate. We are good at receiver. Our linebackers, however, have to be upgraded. And everything I've read about Misi suggests that he is THE 3-4 SOLB.
Kiper probably things we should call up Ryan Leaf and bring him back out of retirement from the McDonald's he works at now.
The point was, we could draft Misi......or, be great at receiver instead of good... Not hating on the pick.... just not what I would have done I guess
We are already great at receiver. There is no point in upgrading a position you spent 2 seconds on instead of upgrading a position that cost you games.
