You kidding? Brandon Marshall for essentially one 2nd round pick is our sexiest use of a 2nd rounder in a long, long time. How many years have we blown 2nd rounders on bad QBs?

    Marshall makes this draft special.

Our offense was ranked 17 and Defense 22. We can win with a 17 ranked offense but not a 22 defense, because they are more to blame for most of our losses than the O.

    A couple thoughts on Kiper:

-McShay roasted him over his grade on Jimmy Claussen, it was almost embarrassing to watch...but I'd bet he gave the Panthers a great grade.

-Last yr, when we signed Cameron Wake, Kiper was asked about him to which he famously replied "there are no draft do overs".

Meaning dude just focuses on one small part of what goes into making a NFL roster work, so developmental players and role players are just not a part of Kiper's worldview which is "I grade players in the NFL draft, these are the results from my system.."

Which is why he couldn't get hired to run the copy machine in an NFL front office.

It takes 3 years before you can rate a Draft. kiper should know this by now, I really don't care what he thinks.

wasn't Kiper the one that said Leaf was a sure bet. because of him the Chargers had a great Draft???

To Kiper, NFL performance doesn't matter. He's a draftnik. He cares only about what happens on draft day and whether or not the "right" player went at the "right" slot.

Kiper will never have to answer for whiffing on the likes of Mike Williams.

And the offense got it. The wide receiver core is immensely better with Marshall, and Hartline/Bess and Camarillo are good compliments. The O-line was upgraded as well. The only thing we didn't get is a running back. I don't know how we didn't help out the offense.

I don't see how it's debatable. We upgraded at wide receiver and we didn't at outside linebacker. Therefore, this pick makes more sense than Golden Tate.

Considering our drafts haven't been steller (White and Turner come to mind, especially with talent on the board), yeah, he's about right.

Koa Misi is likely the week 1 starter at SOLB and is an immediate improvement.

Disagree, the 08 draft class was a good one, but passing over Matt Ryan downgraded it in Kiper's system..in his view taking Long was a mistake.

But when you are assembling a team, it is the right move.

In 09...I agree, White, Turner, Nalbone, the "core" of the draft, played very little or not at all, we did land three starters in Davis, Smith and Hartline, which is supposed to be the sign of a great draft, but still, missing on a #2, #3 and #5 pick..that is kinda rough.

Yeah, Ashraf said that picking Misi makes more sense than Tate because of Brandon Marshall. I'm agreeing with him.

These grades mean absolutely nothing. Why are grades given out? I know....To give ESPN and the NFL network something to do for their 24 hour coverage. All that matters is how these guys perform over the next 4-5 years and nobody can predict how anyone will turn out. Some guys who look great become busts and vice versa.

You don't have to play football to know football: players are usually terrible scouts. Guys like Ozzie Newsome, a great player who became a great GM, are rare.

Kiper sucks, but his sucking has nothing to do with whether or not he played ball.

What Kipers grade is based on, and what his analysis means, is no sex appeal whatsover.

Our draft was hugely boring, utilitarian, tediously measured, and as a result required greater effort, and more work on their behalf to explain the reasoning behind each pick, and thus struggle to maintain viewer interest. At this point however, the tremendous phandom activity buzzing around the draft site, wasn't drawn by the need for sexy pics, they were there to see holes get properly filled!!

If teams don't draft the way he thinks they should, he absolutely has to give them a bad grade. If he didn't, then he'd have to admit his projections were wrong....which they often are. Point is, you can't pay any attention to a grade from a guy who's sole shtick is to project the draft, because he grades by how close they followed his plan.

I've always liked Mel Kiper's draft coverage, he basically made the draft what it is today along with ESPN. Of course he's wrong a lot, so are NFL Gm's and anyone else that grades talent. Our draft was really solid, not a flashy draft that wows anyone, not surprised Mel and some of the other draftniks aren't that thrilled with it. Not accounting for the Marshall trade is just silly though, obviously that had a lot to do with how we went in the draft. To make that trade, recoup our 2nd rounder and pick up 2-3 guys that will start on opening day at vital spots is a damn good draft. I think our special teams and depth got a lot better as well so this is a draft that improved our team greatly IMO.

First time ive ever had the chance to see the draft live on ESPN and Kiper is an arse who go really pissed when the players he picked for teams didnt go to them.

TBH I always liked reading his stuff but his performance on TV put me off taking him seriously ever again.

Now Gruden talks a lot of sense , mostly positive on everything but having a well respected coach talking on the draft helps a lot IMO

It's common knowledge that Mel Kiper's an idiot. If you go back and compare his mock drafts vs what teams really do, you'd notice that kiper is way off every year. There's a reason he doesn't work for any pro teams as a personel guy. Didn't he trash hartline & vontae last year?

It's human nature when people don't get their way or things don't go as planned to be bitter about the results.Kiper is no different in that sense that he probably didn't have our picks on HIS board. I'm still not sure why people take his words as scripture in the first place. He's more often wrong than right.
