Huh, I didn't think it was possible for Gene Simmons to sell out anymore than he already had. Guess I was wrong.

Apparently though, the new album is really good.

    Piques MY interest.

This isn't selling out. This is new material. And since it's a 3 disc set and they're only charging $12 for it, I'm even more interested.

Love em' or hate 'em, KISS wrote some classic hard rock songs in their early days.

Doesn't only releasing through one retailer hurt sales or does Wal Mart pay enough to counteract that?

I have wondered about this for awhile.

Let me know when a song you write becomes an anthem for an entire generation, and is still well known 30 years after it's written, okay? :wink2:

Dude I drank a lot of beer, smoked a lot of weed and raised a lot of hell to that song back in the day. Still do from time to time, they played it at Dr. Feelgoods a couple weeks ago and the place went nuts.

will do  just because it is a song for an entire generation doesn't mean i must think the song is good songwriting.

cool, but i still think it sucks. there are better songs IMO.. even better kiss songs.

Yea, you're right. What does having a great hook, a driving beat, and an addicting sing-a-long chorus have to do with great songwriting?

C'mon bro, you're sounding like an elitist snob here. :tongue2:

It might not be a deep meaning song, but as far as all the elements of a well-written, lasting song that had an affect on millions of people, it's about as close to perfection as you can get.

And this is coming from a non KISS fan and a proghead. :wink2:

My only problem is that the article called them "heavy metal". When the hell did that happen. Good 70's rock n' roll........fine but not heavy metal.

I do agree they had better songs than this. I also agree that just because a song sold well, was liked my millions, and is still famous 30 years later doesn't make everyone have to like it. There was a song called Ice Ice Baby that sold millions and...............I will leave that alone.

I am not doubting the song was not put together well but I do think they had much better material than this.

I never said that everyone has to like it.

But to say it sucks is ridiculous.

And comparing a one hit wonder like Vanilla Ice to an international phenom like KISS is a stretch, don'tcha think? :wink2:

I wasn't actually bad mouthing Kiss for doing this but it seems like the more stores you have your albums in the more you can sell (even if your are #1 on Billboard with 200,000 sales you could have been #1 with 400,000). However like I said maybe Wal-Mart gives a nice kick back. I know Prince released his last album at Targets so this stuff is becoming common.

I heard on the radio that Pearl Jam's doing the same thing with their upcoming album. The Axl Rose Band did it with Best Buy and we all know how well that worked out. Walmart promoted 'Black Ice' like crazy and I'm sure they'll do the same for Kiss.

I was very skeptical since I can't remember the last new album they put out I cared for. But if its anything like Creatures of the Night I'll be very tempted to buy it.

So essentially Wal-Mart can get people better sales with their advertisements than a release in more stores. That's all I wondering, was how releasing in one store works out for a band...if it was money that did it or they still got more album sales. Now I know.

Unfortunately man. I personally can't stand Wal-Mart. Apparently more Wal-Mart shoppers would rather buy the album than the entire rest of the music selling world. Or Kiss is getting more money to release their album at one store than to make it available for wide distribution.

See to me I figured that if you released it at Wal-Mart and every other outlet that the sales would be the same at Wal-Mart as it would be solely releasing it there and that the extra stores would just be gravy. However I have misunderstood the power of the Wal-Mart advertising machine. :D
