I'd be more than happy if he just made the team as a solid PR/KR.

 

Guys like Sheets are even more on the bubble in today's NFL. The kickoff return is just about dead so they now only have punt duty if they can't get in on Offense or Defense.

 

this is the most coverage for zero performance I've ever seen. I think he made a deal with the devil to keep people talking about him despite never doing anything in 3 years in the nfl. (unless you count getting injured, i guess he did that efficiently)

 

One of the changes I really hated to see was moving the kickoff 5 yds closer. If anything I'd have moved it 5 yds the other way. Having the expected increase in touchbacks will downplay what has been an exciting part of the game.

 

Yeah I can't really see the need to keep a specialist anymore since the NFL messed up and took away a major part of the game under the guise of "safety." This will be one of the things they point to when a huge class action lawsuit comes their way one day.

Kory Sheets should shut up, or at least test out that achilles by allowing Dan Marino to throw lasers directly at it.

 

not so, the all time leader in kick off return (an all purpose yardage) Brian Mitchell did just fine with the 5 yd closer kick offs, so did Mel Gray and the Metcalfs, if you have talent for the role the 5yds does not matter.

As for Sheets, why not? Should he just simper as some players do "work hard, do what the coaches ask blah blah blah"?

And this is yr 3 for him, 09 he played only late in the season, in 2010 he injured his achilles, if he is right 210/4.3's he can easily make noise for us in a three headed monster Rb system, and he costs very little to feed so to speak.

 

Like killer said good he speaks highly of himself. Now show us that you can back it up we all would gladly support any speed guy that makes plays.

 

I think what KM is referring to is with the 5 yds less to kick off, that kickers will have a higher pct of touchbacks, likely IMO a much higher pct, especially before the cold weather sets in, giving the return men fewer chances. The reason it was moved back to begin with before was because of so many touchbacks. Now the owners are willing to have the increase in touchbacks in the name of player safety. Though I do not recall injuries being more frequent on kickoffs than any other plays. Also, kickers overall have stronger legs than when it was moved back from the 35 to the 30.

 

Well, as for stronger legs, couldn't really say, do recall most of the "great" returners were in the NFL prior to the move backwards 5 yds in the mid 90's, so the distance is not as much of an issue as one would think.

As for Sheets, I'm waiting to see how he does in TC, especially vs Lb's and S's, can whether he can run between the tackles, if he can we have something in him Mr C.

If given the opportunity, and he can stay healthy, I think the kid could be a contributor.....the man is fast....will be interesting to see what he does post surgery....and in TC...

 

Even if the typical kicker's leg strength is exactly the same as the mid 90s, moving the kickoff from the 30 to 35, it just stands to reason there will be more touchbacks when the kicker has 5 less yards needed to get one. More touchbacks = less chances for kick returners to impact the game.

Agreed........our coverage sucks and we have no one worth a damn at returning kicks, for the time being this can only help us.

Dan Carpenter has to be thrilled

 

Even 5 yds closer, I don't like Carpenter as one who can consistently get it deep enough in the end zone or through it to get touchbacks on a level that would be in the upper echelon in the league. If a kickoff specialist could be found who was able to get an inordinately high pct of touchbacks, wouldn't matter if he could do anything else, just boom them out of the end zone, it may be worth making a roster spot for him. This is the age of specialization in the NFL anyway.
