It's almost certainly not true, but I'd be pretty happy if it were.

Apparently he wants the Falcons job. If he was to consider us over ATL, I think he goes to ATL, presumably (on my part) because he can pick his own staff, aside from everything else . If he was to replace Philbin here I'm sure it would be under the condition he retains Lazor as per Ross' preference for offensive continuity.
Also, there's a lot of competition out there.dolphin25 likes this. -
If this happens I'd be estatic. Which means it's not going to happen.

Not sure if it's that the rumored Philbin extension just hasn't been signed, or if it hasn't been formally offered. The Tannenbaum/Quinn thing could be a reason for why it hasn't been formally offered (if that's the case).
Maybe Ross had second thoughts about keeping Philbin but doesn't want it to look like he is flip flopping. So he hires Tannenbaum to be in charge of non-talent/roster issues and says he is leaving football decisions to the football people. Tannenbaum then fires Philbin and hires Quinn. It gives Ross a little cover from looking like a two-faced flip flopper.

As much as I agree Philbin should have been fired after the Jets game fiasco, I think we have to look at the ramifications of what would happen if Ross fired Philbin after assuring him he would be back. Ross is already an idiot boob of an NFL owner. Fire your coach after telling him he's coming back and he's also going to be viewed as a complete dick idiot boob of an owner. He's already the guy who flirted with a coach before firing the incumbent. Good luck finding a coach next time around if Quinn or whoever he replaced Philbin with didn't work out. Bottom line is Ross shot this team right in the ****ing foot when he made an emotional decision about Philbin following a last minute win against an awful team. No way out of that boobery now.

I'm not sure why Dan Quinn deserves to be a head coaching prospect, frankly.
He's got two years running an ultra-talented Seahawks defense where he essentially executed Pete Carroll's scheme, and two years as an Assistant Head Coach. -

Overall, I think Ross comes out of that appearing to be a changed man and looking pretty good. Certainly no worse than he does now.

Philbin was the OC of the Packers in name only. While he did help implement the offensive game plan during the week, he never called plays during the game. That was the responsibity of the Packers head coach.dolphin25 likes this. -

Interesting.
Probably just alot of speculation by JLC because of the Quinn/Tannenbaum former connection.
I'd hope for it to happen though, simply because I want Philbin out of here ASAP now that he's once again the worst HC in the division with the Bills/Jets jobs filled. -

Philbin's contract includes language that he answers only to Ross. The only way the VP of Football Operations could fire Philbin is under a new contract or else Philbin will have a case for wrongful termination. Ross can't get out of this with his face intact. It wouldn't make sense to extend Philbin to allow Tannenbaum to fire him because then among the myriad of things wrong with that, there's going to be the perception of Ross being a snake or if the media is sincerely stupid, they'll paint it as organizational discord between Ross and Tannenbaum. The only ways Ross can get out of this is if he fires Philbin due to a previously unknown scandal or on the advice of players AND advisers who are then willing to back that firing up in the media. The second a single player or adviser either says no comment or goes against there being a bad air around Philbin remaining the HC, then the house of cards would fall.
Simply put, Joe Philbin is the head coach of your 2015-16 Miami Dolphins and as much as I hate that fact, there's nothing we can do about it.

Amazing how folks discredit him all the time and then want to believe the rest of the time.

And that's a big ear.
I think if Tannebaum tells Ross that Philbin needs to go, he's gone. -
He just sucks at being the leader of men, calling time outs and keeping in touch with his players.
I think the problem with hiring head coaches is that you never know if they are going to do a good job in their new situation. There have been plenty of examples of all cases from new coaches to successful retreads failing miserably. -
Are we on board the Ross is a moron train yet, folks? lol.
Hey, maybe Tannenbaum is able to be less bad if he has enough control.
What scares me is if he pushes for FA signings that end up being mistakes. That was much of his undoing in NY. -
I'm so on the fence about Philbin. We were literally a few plays from 11 or 12 wins. You gotta think when you're that close you can give a guy another chance to improve. With another solid offseason from Hickey, we can have a better team from a talent perspective. You've got a QB and coach who are on the verge of something, give them another chance. It's not like we are the Redskins looking like dog crap with RG3. Another year of inconsistency will be enough for me, but I think there is still room for this team to grow to a top 4 AFC team next year.

I'm a little uneasy about Dan Quinn so I'm actually a little glad La Canfora's speculation has been refuted. I don't like Joe Philbin but I don't want to be saddled for three more years with another bad coach.
Of course, maybe Quinn is actually a good coach. Who knows. -

i would like this to happen but i have 0 faith in ross.
