As of 9:35am this morning, this is the status per JLC's sources.
FFG's bird had the previous scoop. But hopefully things are now a bit more fluid, with Ross there in person.
But the big thing is, Sparano has not been assured a return.

If we're exploring anyone as head coach, why is bringing Sparano back even an option? Either you believe in him or you don't.

It's gotten to the point I don't know who to believe or whose word is gold, I just want this to end sooner than later one way or the other. But hopefully the way I want and that is change.

That just brought a smile to my face. If we're going to go after someone, I'm glad it's him.

I disagree. It's a business. IF Sparano gets another shot I would think it would only make him work smarter and try harder. I doubt these guys take too many things personally. If they did they wouldn't be where they are now.GARDENHEAD likes this. -

The way they've approached it has been a disaster. Now if Sparano is retained the general consensus will be 'well, they couldn't find a suitable replacement' instead of 'they believe in their guy, with conviction.'
The fans and more importantly, the players are supposed to sign-off on that? Give me a break.resnor, Zach13, adamprez2003 and 1 other person like this. -

Don't do it publicly unless you have to, but tell Mr. Ross privately that if his decision is not made within a certain timeframe you will be leaving. It's a business. Tony has to do what's best for his family just as Stephen Ross has to do what's best for his business. -
-
Telling Sparano, or the team, that you want to leave things open to see what's the better fit, and then having to go back to Sparano is saying nothing more than, "Hey, I want to win. I want what's best for this team and I don't want to pain myself into a corner with just one guy."
Sparano isn't some well established, ego maniac coach. If he were things may be different. This is his first HC gig. He just ended his 3rd year. He, and most of the veteran player at least, know what this league is about. -

Based on the Dolphins' actions, evidently they don't believe in Sparano. As a fan, that's really all you need to know, isn't it?DolfanJake and Paul 13 like this. -

Come on Ross you big stud.......get THIS DONE!!!

There was nothing meant by my comment other than to point out how BUSINESS works in the real world.
Based on the Dolphins' actions they want to make sure they don't leave any stones unturned. The Dolphins' want to make money. Do you think they care about "feelings" or "pride"? No. They want to win because they know that will make more money. Telling Sparano that they want to take a look at other options, interview other candidates, is not necessarily saying they don't believe in him.
At this point we really odn't know much other than the owner is making sure he doesn't have any regrest about any decision. And considering that he is a BILLIONAIRE I'll let him handle his business and not worry about "feelings".ToddsPhins likes this. -

Do you think Ross looks at the Dolphins' any differently than Gates looks at Microsoft? -
Story Updated
NFLN saying we had multiple conversations with Harbaugh.
Appears he may well be the #1 target IMO. -
I believe that Ross is handling this the right way. You don't fire the guy you have unless you know you have something in place in return.
I know there is the Rooney Rule to get around, but this allows him to keep Sparano if Harbaugh said he wasn't coming to Miami. No need to throw him out until the replacement is ready to come in, or until you get a commit from him that you will work out a deal. Worst thing would be to fire Sparano now, then not get Harbaugh, and then have to scramble to find a new HC.ToddsPhins and MarinePhinFan like this. -

"League sources expect the Miami Dolphins to make a push to hire Stanford University coach and former NFL quarterback Jim Harbaugh as the Dolphins' next head coach."
"The Dolphins have had multiple conversations with Harbaugh about the position, according to a league source."
"an NFL source told NFL.com senior writer Steve Wyche that it will be "hard for Sparano to survive" with the Dolphins."
"Harbaugh spent the past week in South Florida as Stanford prepared for the Orange Bowl and has been approached by the Dolphins, according to the source."
