The Contra Costa Times is reporting that Ed Roski's business partner has said that there is "no doubt" that an NFL team will be in the Los Angeles area in 2009. The team will be likely playing in the Rose Bowl (I believe the Raiders or 49ers used to play there, right?). Its possible that two NFL teams could be playing in the Rose Bowl. Other news includes the following: The Giants have signed Jerome McDougle who was cut by the Eagles. Could be a nice pickup. McDougle struggled in his career but has come along this off-season and pre-season. He performed strongly in Training Camp or at least that's what I heard and then in pre-season, he had 2.5 sacks. The Jets are interested in bringing in John Lynch. They aren't sold on Eric Smith and Abram Elam. Lynch is done imo but it doesn't surprise me that the Jets are targeting a player that was cut by New England. Yet another former Buccaneer could be heading to Detroit. This time its Ryan Nece. The Lions are looking for LB help after missing out on Takeo Spikes. This could be a nice signing. I know they're not comfortable with Alex Lewis starting outside for them.
The Raiders played down there, but I a pretty sure they played at the L.A. Coliseum. The Rams played there previously before moving on to Anaheim and ultimately...St. Louis. Interesting though. I wonder which teams are on the docket for a move? Buffalo comes to mind, as does the Raiders...again. I think Davis would move them in a heartbeat if he could.
Your right, it was the Coliseum. Buffalo is a possibility. One team to look out for is the St. Louis Rams. If any team is moved to LA, it could very well be the Rams. The Rams have a new owner, after the last one passed away, and is looking to move. As for the Raiders, I think I remember reading a article about Davis being interested in moving them to LA but I don't know if I remember that right. Ever since I watched the 1980's Raiders season in review, I keep mixing their recent news up with their older ones.
If Buffalo moves, it's to Toronto, not LA. Besides, why does LA deserve an NFL team again? They had two and flopped. It's not like Houston, where the Oilers left and they got an expansion franchise back. Houston is a least a proven NFL market. LA had their chance and blew it. Besides, Phoenix is practically an LA suburb these days. They can root for the Cardinals.
Yeah if Buffalo moves its to Toronto, but I think they stay put for awhile. Wasnt Minny in talks to head down there? Thought I heard that like 2 years or so ago. But I agree, LA just isnt a football market. But that said, there is no way the NFL doesnt get a team back there, the allure is to much, like crack.
Zygy Wolf talked about wanting to move Minnesota to LA but their planning a new stadium that's suppose to be start being built in 2010.
Being in California I would love for Buffalo to move to L.A. so I would have a shot at seeing Miami at least once per year and out of that damn snow.
If they start moving teams like that theyd likely do another divisional switch. But if the Bills move it will be to Toronto, they can stay in the same division. I dont think they are as likely to move as some state though.
Never liked the Raiders or Rams. Raiders left because Al Davis is, well, Al Davis. Rams left because the dead ***** wanted to move and Rosenbloom died before they could finalize the Anaheim deal. Mostly all ownership issues. LA has a strong football base if you judge the Bruins and the Trojans popularity. They just need a good owner who won't move because they're crazy or sleazy.
The last rumor I heard was that it would in fact be the Jaguars, requiring no divisional switch whatsoever. They will be liked here and are a winning team with a UCLA RB in MJD and TE in Lewis. They'll be well liked.
I agree, this area blew it twice with two seperate teams. They keep trying to force the marriage though. I certainly hope they have a solid plan in place to overcome what they feel were the reasons for the NFL's failure there before if they are hell bent on trying to make it work.
