Asked for his release and got it acorrding to Sirius Radio. He sais he is healthy and ready to work. I think we should work him out. He was once a Probowl caliber center but maybe he could move to guard!

Eh, might be a nice backup to Satele for C but as for guard, maybe. Depends on his health and strength.

I think the guy has had way too many injuries and is still not in shape.
Example http://www.rotoworld.com/content/Home_NFL.aspx
Rotoworld says that the Browns asked him to run some 40s for part of his physical, he had times in the 7s. No Thanks. I can't see him starting over anyone when hes that beat up and worn out. -
He is all done no thanks.

The problem with competition is that we already have an 84 man roster that needs to be trimmed to 80 so why bring in a guy that everyone knows has no chance of making the final roster? -
I dont know if Mckinney can pass a physical or not at the moment, but I know Bentley has been on the decline for quite awhile and a staff infection is a sure fire sign of laziness and not taking care of yourself in 90% of cases.
We dont need any lazy or washed up people on this team. So I say no to Bentley and if Mckinney cant pass a physical then he can see the door too. People see former Probowler and jump all over it. If most guys were still able to perform on that level then they wouldnt hit the waiver wire.Last edited: Jun 12, 2008 -
A staff infection came from inproper sterilizing of the instruments used while he was in surgery. It's the doctors faults not Bently's. Bentley was also doing individual drills right now. He wasn't declining when he went to clevland. Clevland gave him huge money to come and be the anchor of there line. He got hurt in the second practice and hasn't played since. Get your facts straight. I like Mckinney but Mckinney is not a legitimate reason not to bring in more competition

Not to mention hes had 4 surgeries for the same injury while sidelined. Doesnt that seem a little unusual to you? That alone is a huge stat for why I and many others believe hes going to have too many problems to make an impact. 4 surgeries and he still cant run a 40 in under 7? Yikes.
Hes not an upgrade at the position so no point in bringing him in.Last edited: Jun 12, 2008 -
He is very upset with clevlands doctors that is one of the reasons he has asked for his release. As per sirius sattellite radio clevland has an abnormal amount of staff infections. Bentley is upset because he believes he almost lost his life and they were talking about amputating his leg because of this staff infection. Your argument was we have Steve Mckinney and then you say cut Mckinney. Obviously you can't come up with an intelligent argument as to why we shouldn' t bring him into camp. Worse thing we do is cut him! And if he is healthy he could be a huge upgrade at whatever guard position Smiley doesn't play.

It's my opinion that Bentley already cant because of his poor conditioning after having 4 surgeries on 1 injury. Why bring in another guy whos out of shape? We dont need to just bring in bodies like that. It really isnt competition when you have guys out there who will get blown up in a hearbeat during a game. -
For the right price, why not? We have no veteran leadership on this line, we still have a montley crue of a OL like weve had for years. We have never brought in a marquee OL save Frank Middleton and Stockard McDougal. Yes, neither one worked out for us, but they were also under different regimes that didnt have OL coaching as a top priority(as evidenced by Tony Wise being here), even when it was a glaring problem.

One of the two or three surgeries he had was to get the staff infection out. Why do you insist on saying this guy is fat and lazy. Doctors told him he would never walk right again and he rehabbed hard and proved them wrong. Doctors told him he might lose his leg and he proved them wrong. Doctors said he would never play football again and he was practicing after passing a physical tueday. I would say you would have to be a very hard worker to overcome what LeCharles has. I'm not saying your not intelligent but you haven't given me one intelligent reason why we shouldn't bring him in.

I give him credit for overcoming this as much as he can, but the reality is that he still has a looong way to go. -
Smiley is coming of a torn Labrium or tendon in his shoulder and he had season ending surgery and Mckinney isn't healthy either and I believe is older then LeCharles but both of them were givin a chance. Why not give a possible probowl player who has passed a physical an opportunity.

Bentley with that god-awful 40 time, what shape is he really in? My reasoning is that this is an indicator that he may never get back into good enough shape. It depends on how long ago he had his last surgery, but it stands to reason hes had a lot of time to recover. I think hes looking for one more big payday by asking out of Cleveland and possibly hurrying back onto the active list. -
Bentley had to run 20x40 to pass the physical for a start, hence the slow time. No doubt it would have been towards the end of the test. This bloke is headed for either the Vikes or the Raiders according to the latest reports. He is a Pro Bowler and a top OL, why would he back up on a poor team like us(Dolphins)?
All his medical were caused by a staph problem, the knee operation went well. -

I don't know the reason he had troubles with the 40 times, but I can guess that if he's been working to rehab that knee, he probably isn't ready to compete right now. That certainly doesn't mean that by TC or sometime during TC he won't be ready, knee providing...Your assertion that he's done may not be true...IF and it's the one single question about him, if he is and can stay healthy, he's better than any interior OL we have on the roster (and that includes Carey if we were able to have a better RT and move him to back to guard)....
I'm not a proponent of picking him up at this juncture...first, I don't think he'll want to come here when he can go to more promising teams, second, like you I'm not sure he can stay healthy even though all of his current issues are a result of one injury and the resulting staph infection. To correct a staph infection they have to remove the affected muscle and tissue, basically leaving a hole where the infection was....that requires a lot of time for a professional athlete to rebuild that missing muscle...How far along he is in that process is what any team would have to have a conviction on to sign him.
As to the issues with the Browns, they didn't have his services for two years. They've got a replacement for where they wanted him initially. I can understand why they let him loose. He wasn't in their plans....
If we were a team that didn't have to 'rely' on him right now, I'd say take him in a heartbeat. But to think that he wouldn't be an upgrade to this team if healthy, is wrong...
