Hope this means no more d thomas. Of miller is ready then james an miller could be a deadly combo and ive liked williams so far as well.
The Dolphins are promoting running back LaMichael James from the practice squad, James’ agent announced. That means Miami will have four running backs on the active roster — Lamar Miller, Damien Williams, Daniel Thomas and James. http://dailydolphin.blog.palmbeachp...y-out-for-season-rb-lamichael-james-promoted/
Like it or not Thomas is the closest thing we have to a power back .I dont think LaMichael James, who is a scatback type of player ,will replace him.I think he will be replacing Landry on returns an on STs .Landry has become far too valuable as a starting WR to risk injury as a returner. And he will be the backup to injured Miller and Williams.
While I like the fact James has been added to the 53 man roster. I think the move was probably due to the injury to Miller and not to replace Thomas. Miller didn't play much yesterday and didn't play at all late in the game. So with a short week, it appears the coaching staff is activating James because they probably have doubts regarding Miller's availability against the Bills. Hopefully James will show that he can be a productive RB for the Dolphins in Miller's absence and he can replace Thomas full time once Miller is completely healthy.
Just because he is the biggest back on the roster doesn't mean he is a power back. In fact I think Williams and Miller run with much more power than Thomas. In his time with the Dolphins, Thomas has never shown that he is the power back he was drafted to be. The Dolphins actually need a power back they can rely on to pick run out the clock in the closing minutes of games like yesterday and against the Packers. The fact the coaches had Williams in the backfield and not Thomas, clearly shows that the coaches have no faith in Thomas and that is probably why he was also cut in training camp.
I'm excited about this. LaMichael James will bring a spark to this team which they desperately need. James ran a 4.45 40, Landry ran a 4.77. I think he'll do well replacing Landry.
He played at Oregon, so he is familiar with the offense the Dolphins run. He is a small but speedy back, who has good hand catching passes out of the backfield. I think his pass blocking is a big question mark and that might prohibit him from being a back who is used on third downs or in obviously passing situations at this time. Especially in offensive schemes where the RB is required to provide protection for the QB. He is quick and agile and was an excellent RB and kick returned in college. He isn't a rookie. He played for the 49er's in 2012 and 2013, but requested to be let go by the 49'ers during training camp because he didn't feel he would get a lot of opportunities in the 49er's backfield this season.
maybe the staff knows our RBs are going to get pounded by that Bills Dline on a short week, especially with the injury/re-mashing of Oline, and we need the extra depth.
what the heck are you talking about, what does landry have to do with james..are you trolling? Daniel thomas fumbled yesterday..not good dude..giive james some reps.
Probably kickoff returns. For instance, James might have scored yesterday on the kickoff return after halftime, while Landry could not.
If James chose the same holes Landry chose, maybe. But Landry's football IQ is what allows him to be a top returner. I do not believe Landry's return job is in jeopardy. The way I read this move is that Miller is still pretty beat up and we need depth.
Good D-Lines are automatically replied with outside speed beit stretch or one cut runs. No point going inside.
Well said. It seems that Landry can't outrun the last defender, it's happened a couple times this season.
Only if the Dolphins have a play called in which they aren't relying on James to block before going out for a pass. Personally I like him as a pass receiver out of the backfield. I'm just concerned with the injury to Albert, the RB will be called on to protect Tannehill more and that is not a role James is well suited for IMO.
Landry runs closer to 4.5-4.6. He was injured at the time of that 4.77 (or whatever it was). Landry is plenty fast enough to score. Yes, there are faster returners, but his speed is the least of worries. And regardless of someone's speed, sometimes the angles are there for the defender. And for those who think Landry is too valuable to return punts, Pittsburgh still uses Antonio Brown in that role. Landry's game reminds me a lot of Brown. Not saying he is the next Antonio Brown, but the way they play are so much alike. If he can become 75% the player Brown is, Miami wins with that pick.
His speed isn't what makes his returns great...his vision, decisiveness, and drive do. Put Miller's speed on Landry and you'd have him breaking Hester's record.
Bill Lazor It looks like they are going to use him as a receiving change of pace back .It will give the Bills something to think about.
Thanks. I was wondering if they had some things in mind when they activated him , glad to hear they do. Could be a factor against Buff , especially with the line changes.
Kinda excited to see what this guy looks like in-game. He's been humbled and fought through it, I like those kind of stories. Hope he makes the best of his opportunity.
Every one of his long returns he gets caught from behind. It takes good speed to return a kick off return over 90 yards for a touchdown. Landry doesn't have the speed.
To be honest, I haven't really had a chance to see just how fast Miller runs. Landry's vision is nice. It's almost as if he sees the holes the way we see things on tv. I truly enjoy watching this kid play. Some posters will probably need to eat some crow by the year's end; if not sooner....
It's true he doesn't have great speed though. But IDC, personally. He gives you a chance at great field position EVERY time he gets the ball...invaluable.
Andrew Abramson @AbramsonPBP 14m14 minutes ago #Dolphins RB LaMichael James: I have a little chip on my shoulder http://dailydolphin.blog.palmbeachp...el-james-i-have-a-little-chip-on-my-shoulder/ … I like.
I will take your word for it. Yesterday, he was slowed by the kicker when he was finally taken down from behind. He's no Teddy Ginn, but I still think he has "enough" speed to take one to the house. It's no big deal. At this point, KO and punt returns are the least of the teams' worries.
I guess this is agree to disagree, because he does not have close to the speed to take it to the house.
The guy did run a 4.7+ at the combine on an injured hamstring. He did have an official 4.51 and an unofficial 4.49 at his Pro Day. The guy is no burner, but 4.5 is fast enough. If you are saying that he cannot take one to the house by simply out-running someone, I might agree. But to say he cannot take one to the house simply because he is not the fastest guy on the field is the wrong angle to take. There are too many things that can happen on a kickoff to make that claim. I think the guy has enough "juice" to do it, even if he has to juke his way to the endzone in the process.
He doesn't have the speed. They're are plenty of people on the field during a kickoff to make it and a long kick off is simply out running people.
Pro day times are always taken with a grain of salt. I personally add a tenth of second to them. I need to agree with Dupree here, Landry is a good returner but Miami is sacrificing the home run for the consistent double.
I don't see the sacrifice...Thigpen didn't have near the vision Landry has...what did that get us? Did Thigpen average Landry's numbers? Did Thigpen give us a field position advantage as great as Landry has? And he's a ROOKIE who never had any real experience running them back...he's just a baller. I watched Sproles run one back tonight and he DIDN'T do it because he flat out-ran everybody...he juked a few guys out of being able to make a play. Sure he had speed, but the moves did it, not the speed. He and Hester are on another level on returns...no question...but how many teams have that? It's a rare talent. Who, if not Landry, should be running back kicks then?
