Listen, there's a ton of bs in this thread. I (and everyone else) could do without all of it, yours included. Deal with it or you don't need to be here. Neither does he. The public criticism needs to stop.
I can deal with it, but if things are constantly allowed to happen with no repracussion you can't be upset when posters (not just me) are puzzled by watching posters get cussed out. We all want a great board, but we all also see things like this wayyyyy to often. And look...now you've put me as more of a culprit than the culprit.
I've been over this before with you...you don't know the repercussions. That's for me and the staff to know.
I think we all just need to put some pads on and hit the field already! As someone who is FAR away from the Miami market, not as far as I have been at times when I was not even in the 48, but as far away as you can be in the 48 at the moment I would just say this... Some poor busturds like me rely on this site for the majority of our news and discussion about our favorite team. Yes it's 2017 but I was born the same day the team was, so I may not have an I phone that I can't take my eyes off of or look up from. There was a time when the secure computer onboard ship was the only access to the internet I had, and thephins.com was a site I was allowed to add to my access list. It was my only source of info on the Phins for months out of the year. I couldn't click on links and open other sites. What was posted here or ESPN etc was it. So I REALLY appreciate(d) when people would flesh out their threads with as much info as legally possible. Judge me for being a technotard as you will Dirty, sometimes it's not that simple. I appreciate all the conversation you start. Don't hate on people for wanting a little more from your very capable self brah. And don't make fun of us lazy old dudes who want you to do all the work.
I stepped up and said something because it get so exhausting seeing people bashed and attacked in almost every thread. You're right- we don't know the repercussions, but we would appreciate it if the repercussions encouraged folks to stop being so brutally hostile over and over again. Because make no mistake, this wasn't because Dirty Landry forgot to add a little snippet of text...it happens in almost every thread on a daily basis regardless of the conversation. A few others PMed me tonight with the same sentiments- we're just sick of being bullied because we want to talk about the Dolphins.
I find it ironic that the elder posters or the ones that have to fix the posts , just cant stick to the subject of the post. Incase you forgot, Landry's agent set a deadline. Now instead of looking for a source or showing the source, do you have anything constructive to say? Or do you need to find an article to make a statement? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I know the link headline says there's a deadline... but there is no deadline. He's going to play, regardless of whether there is a new deal or not.
Deadline to discuss contract. If no deal, then they will have to franchise him. However, they didnt say if they would test Fa or be open to a deal before Fa Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I would say that the biggest negative hasn't been mentioned. How it looks to the rest of the locker room. You have a guy who has given his all to the team and done the right thing each and every time and he hasn't gotten paid. Makes some of the other players potentially lose a little morale knowing that you can do that and still not get paid. I'm not saying this is the right way of looking at it but from their perspective, it;s a reality. The best thing for everyone involved to have this wrapped up before training camp.
I agree with this as well. It was pretty obvious there was a concerted effort this year by the FO to "retain their own" and reward those guys here doing it the "right way". You rewarded those guys for it, how do you leave Jarvis behind in all of that? Maybe they can make the case they're doing it because he's still got a deal in place, and those other guys were expiring, but in an offseason where you tried to send the message of taking care of your own, and rewarding those doing it your way, the heart and soul of your offense sitting there without an extension is a bit of a question mark. That being said, I think these other players too though, will understand that there's the business side to this. Maybe other players know Landry's demands and think he's out in left field. I'm sure alot of these guys too though, understand that hey.. you're on a 4 year deal. This is year 4. You're under contract, get in here and play, deal with that after... which is essentially what Landry has done too. At the end of the day though, I agree, it's a bit odd it's not done, and it would be beneficial to everyone that this gets done ASAP if you're planning on keeping him. Lots of time though until that "deadline" rolls around, that's the good thing here.
Theres still a deadline for a new deal. Hes saying he wont negotiate in season. Whether thats bs or not, we'll find out. I always find that interesting because i find it hard to believe a player or agent will turn down big money at any point...particularly in the nfl where your careeer can end like that.
You know Fin-O, you can always place posters whom you find their posts offensive on Ignore or do what I try to do....just roll my eyes and ignore their posts...
It really depends on the context of whats being said. That said, myself (and other staff members) have sent plenty of people (new and established) packing for a variety of reasons. Always report the post and let myself or another staff member deal with it. We all work, but someone will eventually get to it.
I understand your frustrations. Believe me I do. I was a regular frequent poster in the defunct PoFo and if you think conversations here are bitter, it was a regular BLOOD BATH in the PoFo with hostile language going back and forth. While I endeavored to refrain from such language, I too participated in such conversations. Hell, FinD and I ALWAYS went at it back and forth in the PoFo, but those who violated the TOS were addressed by the MODS so my advice to you echos my reply earlier... Either place those posters whom you find offensive on ignore, simply ignore their posts all together and not respond and/or if there are posts that violate the TOS and you find that offensive, report those posts to the MODS and let them handle it.
The simple fact of the matter is that the site has profanity filters. No one is being subjected to cursing. They are being subjected to a series of *. But fine, I'll refrain from using anything that gets the filter. But I guarantee, it won't stop the complaints.
Tony, if your posts become subject to MOD intervention for violation of the TOS, then so be it and you'll know you crossed the line. I was merely trying to offer advice...the advice I took myself during some of our past heated conversations PoFo, but as I came to know you, I learned that even though I personally think some of your viewpoints are as stupid as a football bat (being VERY playful there), you really are a GREAT guy and I enjoy our conversations. Hopefully all of us will take the time to get to know one another and we can have conversations and if those conversations have differing points of view, we can do so without any ill feelings!
Oh, I wasn't attacking or arguing with you or anything. I realize my post came across that way now that I reread it. Sorry. I was just trying to point out the crying some people (not you) are doing is over a few *.
Ricky, if you don't mind, do you have any other thoughts on the post? What it lacks, or when he would be willing to negotiate if they pass Week1. Maybe a Bye week? lol. or would he test free agency/get a tag?
A lot was said before we got into all that other junk. His team isn't going to pass on a deal regardless when it comes. It's classic posturing. It seems more a public way of saying that "hello, we're waiting!!!" to get the message out that the ball is in the Phins court. I have absolute confidence a deal will be done before TC opens in a month. There isn't a positive reason to wait longer. At that point it becomes a negative if it hasn't been done. The Dolphins will also float the deal to the media at that point to make sure everyone ELSE knows they volley'd it back to Landry with a big offer.
Look if you want to compare him to AB or OBJ, please go right ahead: AB 106 catches, OBJ 101 and Jarvis 94. 6-7 catches more for the year? AB 1,284 yards, OBJ 1,367 and jarvis 1,136. That's 14 yards more a game. Average a catch, OBJ 13.5, AB 12.1 and Jarvis 12.1. Eliminate the bubble screen, he's right there. Yards a game? AB 86, OBJ 85, and jarvis 71. not off much. 20+ plays? AB 22, Jarvis 16 and OBJ 20. Over 16 games, not much of a diff. Jarvis is right there with the elite WRs. becareful miami, if you want to low ball him
Ignoring the first part, but that last point you bring up is interesting, and something I think we've all missed up to this point. Miami does indeed have the option of slapping the franchise tag on Landry. Now, I doubt they do it, because I'd like to think they could sign him to a deal for less than the hit of the tag. However, if Landry is being unreasonable with his demands, and Miami wants to keep him it's definitely an option. Not sure how viable of an option, but it is indeed there. Good point. A quick google search though reveals the WR tag for this season was 15.68 million so I highly doubt we would want that to be an option. Technically there is a deadline. If it doesn't get done by then, then he's playing the contract out, and he's going to be a free agent (restricted? I forget) at the end of the year.
Successful teams like the Steelers, Patriots have no problem with this. And they get discounts because of it. It's not done because Landry wants more money than the FO thinks he should get. At the end of the day, he's a slot receiver. His market is Baldwin, Randall Cobb, etc, with capflation.
No. Career TDs - Landry 13. ODB 2015 - 13. + 12. +10. I do like how you compared ODB's career catches, but only yards for last year. Career yards 4,122 ODB. 3,151 Landry. 20+ plays career. 55 vs 32. 40+ yards. 20 vs 6. Y/g. 95 vs 63. Of course Antonio Brown had a down year so we'll use that. We're not going to talk about his 1500, 1700, an 1800 yards from the 3 years before. Or his 12, 13, 10 touchdowns per year the last 3 years. Jarvis is not right there. He's the best slot receiver in the NFL. He's an elite slot receiver. The Edelmans, the Baldwins, the Cobbs. He's not with the Odells, the Antonio Browns, the Julios.
How is that a deadline? That's playing out the contract he signed, which is what his agent actually said. A deadline is, "We want a new deal by July 5th. If no deal by them, Jarvis will be holding out from all team functions."
Also, can we cut the passive aggressive crap already? Doing that usually furthers the argument, it's why people do that. Let it go. Sometimes in life you have to realize that it's not always everyone else who is the problem.
This is not really hard. It's a deadline to sign an "extension." Yours is not a deadline, that's an ultimatum or threat. He has an existing contract. They set a deadline to add onto that contract. If it doesn't get done, they're not going to add to the contract. but they still have that contract.
Doesn't a deadline indicate that if something isn't met there is some sort of consequence or penalty? There's no deadline. They would like a new contract, but are willing to play this the current one out. dead·line ˈdedˌlīn/ noun 1. the latest time or date by which something should be completed. "the deadline for submissions is February 5th" synonyms: time limit, limit, finishing date, target date, cutoff point "the deadline for manuscript submissions is February 14"
I don't necessarily disagree with that. I think the tough part here though will be getting Landry to agree with that set of parameters as his market, and yes, I agree that it's not done yet because he's insisting on more than they think he's worth. That's pretty obvious at this point I'd say. I think you can also easily make the argument that teams like the Steelers, Ravens, Patriots tend to have no issues with this because they are proven perennial winners and contenders for the most part. It's easy to convince a player to stay in house when he's got a realistic shot at the playoffs and winning every year. We're on the right track though in that regard. Landry though has said he wants to stay too, so maybe they're all actually negotiating in good faith right now that it will get done, it's just a matter of getting closer on the terms. It's possibly likely too that Miami drew their line in the sand financially, prompting Landry's agent to put the pressure on them now to give in to their demands. Of course, this is all speculation now though.
It's posturing for the press so no one thinks Landry is being unreasonable. Ball is in Tannenbaum's court. Tired of this being a thing. Get it done!
Yes. The latest time or date which something should be completed. The extension. If it's not completed by then, no extension. But the existing contract ... still exists.
LOL I just think when you read the headline of the link, or this thread, it makes one think that there's an actual deadline. But there isn't. They'd like a new contract, but there is no "deadline." If the Phins offer him a new contract in October (hypothetical, maybe they can't), he'd sign it. Saying there's a deadline usually indicates that the player is going to actively seek going elsewhere, unless he gets a renegotiated contract.
I think your last line is the implication. If he doesn't get it signed by then, he might be testing the free market next season.
Yeah, but there is nothing from his agent to support that. His agent said Landry wants to be a Dolphin long-term, the reason for the "deadline" is because Landry doesn't want to talk contract during the year, he wants to focus on football. So, there is no indication that the "deadline" is anything other than "do the new contract before the season or after the season."
Definitely. If he has a monster season maybe he says they had their chance. Now he's gonna go get overpaid in the market. If he has a decent season maybe he says you guys get first crack. Listen, if the season starts and the Phins say okay here is $14m per year, yeah he's gonna listen.
Right... so there's not really a deadline. You don't set a deadline, then negotiate after that deadline.
Money talks. But what I think they mean is, they're not going to approach the Dolphins after the season starts. The Phins would have to blow them away to get them to break that deadline.
