In (more) seriousness, though, that left side of the line was looking deadly during the last game.

 

Seems like the entire line is doing well. I think I figured out JuWaun James: he's more comfortable blocking the run. He looked straight beastly on some of those runs. He has a newfound energy about himself.

Per PFF, Tunsil and James are Miami's top run blockers.

 

The future for Tunsil, and the best value for the team, is at LT. I'd not touch anything on the OL this year, and if I thought we could get away with the usual suspects actually staying healthy for next year, I'd keep it the same too. Sooner, rather than later though Tunsil will be needed at LT, and in theory (not so much recently of course) it is easier to find a decent guard than a tackle.

 

I think that's always in the back of Miami's mind. But the guy is so good, that you almost have to plug him in somewhere along the line. Glad they figured this out, and glad he's doing so well at the position.

 

As much as I like what Tunsil has done as a rookie, Albert is actually having a better season. The past two games he's driving opponents 5+ yards downfield or towards the sidelines, and that's so incredibly hard to do in this league with ultra-fast and agile DE's. Tunsil is also dominating so don't get me wrong here; Albert is simply at a different level of violence and explosiveness each down. I would expect both of them to be headed to the Pro Bowl if they remain healthy, and I think our boy Tunsil takes rookie of the year.

 

if we leave him at guard he is grossly overpaid. can find a guard just as good in the 6th round or undrafted.

Obviously you haven't noticed all the trouble the Dolphins have had over the last decade trying to find guards for this team. Perhaps them drafting for the this position in the second and third rounds of the draft has been the problem.
Instead they should have just drafted good guards in the sixth round or bring in undrafted guards to fill these positions.

The fact is that if finding good players at any position was as easy as some people make it out to be. The Dolphins would not have been so mediocre for the last 15 years. If you look around the entire league, you will notice that there just aren't a lot of teams with quality offensive lines. In fact there are far more average to below average starting guards in the NFL today then there are above average guards.

The 5-6 years the Dolphins oline has been built to pass first, run second. Consequently the value and money spent on the guards has been minimal. Now the offense appears to have switch to run first, pass second the value of the guards has suddenly increased and consequently the money and talent that needs to spent on the guard position needs to be upgraded as well.

The Bushrod experiment of taken a nearly used up OT and converting them into a serviceable OG has been positive, but it's not a real replacement for a pair of true nasty earthmoving OG's.


Real earth moving guards are rare and deserving so deserve to get paid.

Same plan as it was from the beginning. Tunsil stays at guard until for whatever reason Albert moves on. Tunsil is playing lights out as is Albert and Ponce over the last 2 games. Bushrod and James have been playing well too. We do need to find a couple of nasty guards for the future as well as improving the depth along the line as a whole.

I am just going to keep enjoying the play of our line as long as I can cause God only knows when one of them is going to go out hurt again.

 

Sorry my man, but you just don't understand how the offensive line works. In pass protection, the left tackle has to be your most dominant player. But when it comes to the run game, your strong side guard is what decides if the play goes for 2 yards or at least 7+. Since we are dominating as a run-first offense, it's a no-brainer to leave Tunsil at guard. His play has been nothing short of spectacular so far this season.

Besides, he's on a rookie contract....how is he grossly overpaid? We would pay him exactly the same if he were a QB, a LB or an offensive tackle. Considering that he was the highest graded player overall in the draft, Tunsil is likely the biggest bargain on our roster at the moment. But maybe you don't understand how that works either.

You should probably figure it out some though before you start calling out other members.

 

Miami has to be careful if it wants to move on from Albert. How do you find a guard/tackle to replace? However, based on injury history, I think Miami needs to add depth anyway

Tunsil has been great.

I would bring in more OL this draft though. It's not my priority above defense and TE, but it's still something I'd want to address. We need better depth at a minimum and possibly a starter if Albert is injured or we move on (not my preference).
